AIBU to be nosy and ask what pram you got and why?

I’m blinded by a million prams/pushchairs/strollers/travel systems and have no idea what to go for.
I’m keen to have something for a newborn that can convert easily, isn’t too much of a pain to put up and down... and aside from that I’m
Blank!
What did you pick, what made you choose it and would you go for it if you had the choice again?

I have an Oyster 2 because I couldn't afford an iCandy. It's okay. It's lasted three years with no complaints.

Name739017 · 25/07/2019 07:57

Cosatto Giggle. I can fit the pram chassis and the newborn carrycot in the boot of my Skoda Citigo and still have room for bags.

HJWT · 25/07/2019 08:07

@Bellasblankexpression if you like walking in parks etc the Bugaboo Bee or similar will be no good! Its a city pram, you need something with big wheels, Bugaboo Fox, Uppa baby vista!! When you find what you like look up reviews on youtube were people test them out on and of road 😁

NeverGotMyPuppy · 25/07/2019 08:57

Completely agree with @NoIDontWatchLoveIsland. It seems like such a big decision (it certainly did to us!) but beyond travel system.or not lighter and less sturdy or tank-like, it doesn't make a huge amount of difference 2bh.

Myshoesarenew · 25/07/2019 09:22

We have a baby jogger city elite. It’s just like the mini but with bigger wheels - it’s only available online but I think it’s superior to the mini. It is so nice to push, great on all terrain, easy to fold, wheels snap on and off etc. It’s been used daily since DC1 was born. We have a wide hallway though so haven’t had to fold it often. Drawbacks are that it doesn’t parent face other than with an infant carrier mounted on top. I think I’d still buy another though. Not officially designed for running (you need the summit for that) but DH has done plenty of jogging with it.

When we had DC2 and needed a double (we had 2 under 2 for a while) we have an out n about nipper 360 double which was an absolute dream, especially for me as a shorter person. I used to often take the double with just one DC and fill the other side with shopping. I think I’d recommend the single based on how much I liked double.

We have a walking-heavy lifestyle, though are city based. I had one DC who would only nap in the pram, so I know that our baby jogger has done 1000s of miles (I calculated it a few years ago), some on pavements, some off road.

PooWillyBumBum · 25/07/2019 09:25

My Bugaboo Bee lasted brilliantly from birth until she was walking all the time. And I didn't even by the customary folding Mclaren.

Now pregnant again 12 years later(!) and no way will I spend that much. I'm going to get a sling and a second hand jogging buggy.

Hi @Bellasblankexpression sorry to barge in on your thread. Just wanted to let you know about our top 10 prams and pushchairs list that we put together not too long ago.

All the prams there have been recommended by mumsnetters and then extensively tested by a family.

Hope that helps Flowers

MarthasGinYard · 25/07/2019 09:28

Stokke xploy

Both really tall and liked how we could push it up to table when out

WhatTheAbsoluteFuck · 25/07/2019 09:28

Quinny Buzz. Pavements here are shit, wanted proper tyres. It’s easy to swap from carrycot, pushchair and seat. One handed unfold.

DD had severe reflux so was mostly in the sling till around 9 months.

SansaryaAgain · 25/07/2019 09:47

BabyZen Yo-yo - perfect if you live in a city and take public transport a lot, or don't live on a ground floor. It was lightweight enough that if DS was asleep in it (when he was tiny, not toddler age!) then I could carry it up the stairs without having to wake him and take him out.

Best £400 we ever spent, and DS went in it til he was nearly 4.

SansaryaAgain · 25/07/2019 09:51

But I will say always consider your circumstances OP. If like me you live in a city and take buses etc then something like the babyzen or bugaboo bee will be perfect. If you live in the countryside then you'll want something sturdier with better wheels.

Pinktinker · 25/07/2019 10:07

Bugaboo Cameleon. I had gen1 with my older DC and I loved it, now have gen3 with baby DS and it’s even better. Fantastic pram, super sturdy and never had any issues with it. Looks nice too.

Pinktinker · 25/07/2019 10:09

The wheels are sturdy which helps. I live in a small town with very old narrow bumpy pavements and some country tracks. The bugaboo Bee would be better for cities if you get public transport a lot or have a small boot.

notsohippychick · 25/07/2019 10:18

I’ve got through a lot of buggies but the best one I bought hands down was the Out and About Nipper. Which I bought it for my first. It’s amazing.

crispysausagerolls · 25/07/2019 10:41

Bugaboo Fox due to the large wheels as we have a dog we take to the park every day.

Also bugaboo do a wonderful sun mesh canopy thing whcih is extendable so they are in the shade but get air in. Much better than people I see draping blankets over in the hot weather and creating a sweaty death trap!

crispysausagerolls · 25/07/2019 10:42

Have a MacLaren I keep in the car for randomly needing to nip somewhere - umbrella fold very easy.

Poetryinaction · 25/07/2019 10:46

Too much information here now I bet...
But fwiw
QUINNY BUZZ
No one seems to like it but mine has been going for 6 years now (3 kids) and used EVERY DAY. It is so robust. Excellent on all terrain, easy to steer amd so COMFORTABLE for the baby.
But
Small basket
Wide wheels.
Good luck!

Quail15 · 25/07/2019 10:50

I used a sling/carrier until lo was 6 months. I just couldn't face a car boot full of pram every time we went anywhere and we have no hallway/porch so it would have had to live in the car.

We bought a pocket plus stroller when lo was big enough as it folds down to the size of her nappy bag and is great for holidays. X

SpeedyShutter · 25/07/2019 10:51

We started with a mamas & papas one, but that was v big & heavy but, conversely, not big enough. It was also a pain in the arse to steer and get around corners of through doorways. We only kept it for a few months.

We then bought a fancy pushchair with big wheels and steering that was great for going around town. I lost that though (I forgot to put it in the car one day and left it on the street) so, being skint, we bought a cheap stroller from Argos for about £30.

When we had our 2nd child, our dc1 was still a young toddler so we bought a Safety 1st double buggy thing from Asda for £50. The baby laid down flat in the back and the toddler sat up in the front. We had that for ages until dc1 could walk reliably and then we went back to the cheap stroller for dc2.

qj17 · 25/07/2019 10:51

Mamas and papas flip xt3. One handed fold and nice and light. Also liked the champagne colour chassis.

SpeedyShutter · 25/07/2019 10:53

My advice is to buy what feels comfy - test it out in the shop before you buy. Remember that you don't have to spend a fortune on a branded buggy - as my post above shows, sometimes the cheap ones are just as good.

Crunchymum · 25/07/2019 10:54

Bugaboo Chameleon, all black. Can't fault it and still love it!

Bought in 2012, currently on 3rd child

I did have to get a replacement chassis, but it was provided F.O.C (despite pram being out of warranty)

I've bought a new hood and footmuff for DC3, so all in I have spent about £1,100. Not bad for something that has been used almost daily for 6.5 years!

Bellasblankexpression · 25/07/2019 11:00

@hopelessatthinkingupusernames is the carry cot easy to use with the city mini? That’s the one I’ve been looking at as I wasn’t sure about having front facing for a newborn...

Thanks all these posts are really helping me narrow down what it is I think I want/need!

OP posts:
LaurieMarlow · 25/07/2019 11:01

Bugaboo Chameleon. Brilliant for our purposes, lots of walking, some roughish terrain.

However it’s a bugger to fold down so I don’t recommend it for that. The Bee would be better.

gardenbats · 25/07/2019 11:03

Bugaboo Chameleon 3. Love it, bought it as I liked the look of it and it's good for sand / snow / getting out and about with.

We've taken it on a long haul holiday, to the beach, out in all weathers etc and it's lasted beautifully. Will be using it for a future baby too when my DD is finished with it.
