The comparisons with Trump aren't valid

They are mainly not valid because Trump inherited an economy in good order and - apart from his corporate tax handouts and locking up little kids for being brown - he has done very little.

Johnson OTOH will be taking on an economy already close to or in technical recession, and unprepared for constitutional and economic upheaval.

Johnson is not quite so stupid, but he has Trump's inability to absorb detail. Plus, on the stupidity front, he has appointed a lot of stupid people to his cabinet.

@Toomuchtrouble4me
Fantastic speech.
Looking forward to delivery of democratic promise.

Which parts did yiu fubd impressive? 'Cos for me it was:

"Pay tribute" says every politician in every speech ever
Bluster
Waffle
"The doubters, the doomsters, the gloomsters" - yes this part was very statesman like, I concede.
Uncosted promises
Brexit
Waffle
Bluster
Pluck of the British People etc

iwantadishwasher · 24/07/2019 18:37

Which parts did yiu fubd impressive? means Which parts did you find impressive? Angry typing fingers!

PortiaCastis · 24/07/2019 18:38

All the promises about education nhs social care gp appointments etc will never come to fruition unless bojo can rustle up quite a few thousand trained staff and that ain't gonna happen when we have nurses and other medical staff and teachers leaving in their droves.

Annie8294 · 24/07/2019 18:39

Boris Johnson is a buffoon . Brexit will finish him off . It’s his karma , between him and Nigel Farage they are both lying idiots

iwantadishwasher · 24/07/2019 18:40

Yes, he'll also need one of them singing-ringing-magic-money-trees PortiaCastis

merrymouse · 24/07/2019 18:41

Toomuchtrouble, Ken Livingstone was booted out of the Labour Party and is not currently even an MP, so thankfully there is in no danger of him becoming PM.

However, you are completely missing the point. The conservative membership like to blame poverty on the moral failings of the poor, yet seem to find feckless fathers charming as long as they went to Eton.

TheSultanofPingu · 24/07/2019 18:43

I predict he'll be a shocking Prime Minister.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 24/07/2019 18:44

Javid is apparently a Thatcherite. So now you'll get 1980's economic hardship at the same time as the Brexit economic armageddon.

Palaver1 · 24/07/2019 18:45

A very sad day indeed
Nothing surprises me anymore absolutely nothing.

Alsohuman · 24/07/2019 18:45

I predict he’ll be the PM with the shortest term in history.

PortiaCastis · 24/07/2019 18:45

Policemen growing on said money tree also by 2020 but not many folk want to be an officer and do the 6mths training

Palaver1 · 24/07/2019 18:47

Who else ticks the box to help us thorough next coming years there sems to be very little choice its all a mess.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 24/07/2019 18:51

No deal never looked more likely.

browneyes77 · 24/07/2019 18:53

Get a grip. He's not a Marxist who wants to take your houses and property away from you and bomb your children's chances in life.

I know. All I’ve seen today are people being so melodramatic 🙄

Sorority · 24/07/2019 18:55

I like Boris. He does have a certain charisma and seems quite jolly.
I do think there'll be a GE before long. Hope that he can get a coalition / agreement with the Brexit party (if necessary) to get a decent majority.

Darkcloudsandsunnydays · 24/07/2019 18:55

This is mumsnet.

Why do you people have to swear all the time.

The English language has one of the worlds largest vocabulary’s.

Surely you can put three words together to form a reasoned sentence and if not why not.

We voted to leave. We live in a democracy. The PM was voted in according to party rules. ......and so on and so forth.

Can mumsnet remove all the swearing posters please.

Iambuffy · 24/07/2019 18:56

No.
Fuck off.

ginghambox · 24/07/2019 18:57

Can mumsnet remove all the swearing posters please

SugarfreeMe · 24/07/2019 18:58

Tweedle Dumb & Tweedle Dumber!
God help the world with Boris & Trump in charge!

So Boris Johnson is the new PM.
PortiaCastis · 24/07/2019 18:58

I'll bastard well swear if I fuckin want to and as yet we have freedom of speech
Ta good evening

TuesdaySunshine · 24/07/2019 19:01

Fuck me. I thought we were doomed yesterday, but some of these appointments are just buttock-clenching. Patel as home sec, Raab in the foreign office and deputy PM... Shoot. Me. Now.

Roussette · 24/07/2019 19:02

I like Boris. He does have a certain charisma and seems quite jolly.

God help us. Charisma, being jolly, making daft faces, saying stupid phrases and soundbites doesn't endear him to me. I want someone professional, informed, hardworking... Boris is none of those things.

Pebbles574 · 24/07/2019 19:03

The problem with all the swearing is that it detracts from any valid argument. When people resort to swearing to make their point I always feel it weakens, rather than strengthens, their argument. Makes them come across as less eloguent, less rational etc

I saw Matt Haig having a sweary rant fest on twitter about Boris and my reaction was just to ignore it and think what a tosser he (Haig) was.

fussychica · 24/07/2019 19:05

Oh good, our very own Trump.
No surprise though. Can't believe anyone would think he is a suitable PM, he was a bad enough Foreign Secretary.
