@helenadove

"Though i had to fucking laugh when she suggested that i dont give a fuck about social housing tenants" oh ffs!!

"Ah yes, and things like the three day week under that 'socialist' Ted Heath.
I love the way the extreme right wingers like to rewrite history." True. I missed a trick there!

"Life can change in the blink of an eye." Exactly!

"Thd idea of deserving vs undeserving poor that the tories have pushed since 2010 has really taken root." It goes back WAY further than that - which makes it even more astonishing why as I said anyone who isn't already pretty well off would vote for them!

When there were voters on question time and various news reports and online forum shocked and bemoaning the cuts to tax credits that they THOUGHT the tories didn't class as a welfare benefit and that Cameron had "promised" wouldn't be happening (he did no such thing, he fudged every time the subject was raised!) it was a real facepalm moment for me and many others. And clearly a rude awakening for those voters to realise that as far as the Tory party was concerned they too were "benefits scroungers" and therefore UNdeserving poor, and yet there are still people like this voting Tory - why?! It's completely shooting yourself in the foot, turkeys voting for Christmas etc utterly nonsensical!

"But if you can comfortably afford 5 kids it’s a bit of a stretch that the break up of the relationship would suddenly leave one partner penniless" how?! The scenario posited is ENTIRELY possible if the couple are unmarried or secretes the majority of assets into OW name prior to divorce, one parent is a sahp and the earning parent is self employed and exploits every loophole to avoid paying even minimal cm! Something which happens very often - just go look at the current mn sponsored thread asking on behalf of an MP what issues there are with cms!

And nobody has "misrepresented" johnsons disgusting and REPEATED racist and xenophobic comments!

"He will soon sort this shit storm out" you're deluded if you don't realise he will escalate the divisiveness caused by the whole brexit debacle and that is the mainstay of Tory actions anyway!

"Could be worse if there's a General Election and Labour win, we'd have Corbyn as PM. Now that's a horrendous thought" genuine question - why on EARTH do you think corbyn is WORSE than Johnson? Have you even looked at the labour manifesto? I've read many many posts on here slating Corbyn/Labour Party...I've yet to read one that gives a genuine factual reason why they would be worse!

@serenoa we can but dream...though I don't see it happening. Indeed I've just jumped on Facebook and seen that's all done n dusted!

As I said in my first post I think, people have this very odd, seriously unrealistic notion of the queen/royal family being REMOTELY caring or socialist on ANYTHING. I don't know why because it's of course not, never has been nor ever will be the case.

They simply want the royal family to keep their status and wealth and for there to be no risk of civil unrest as that would put them at risk also. The queen CHOSE to marry and loves a man as despicable, spoilt and racist as Johnson - what makes people think she doesn't think the same?! She's very careful what she says but that's purely from training and self interest. The Royal family are in the highest ivory tower going, they have nothing but a very distant, academic knowledge of poverty or hardship of any kind!

"Nothing much affects the royals, they are rich enough to not have to worry about things like Brexit." Yes definitely! Their only concern in regard to this will be the potential for it to reignite the troubles which would make them targets for a certain type Irish republican again.

"This isn't about being Churchill fighting on the beaches, it's about all the boring day to day negotiations that enable the way of life that we take for granted." Definitely

I'm sure you've watched it, but great comedy.

Everything will be fantastic and unicorns will fly too.

merrymouse · 24/07/2019 16:59

But if you can comfortably afford 5 kids

Boris Johnson's wikipedia page says he has 5 or 6 kids. At least one was conceived while he continued to be married to somebody else and one is not publicly acknowledged.

He may be able to support them all, but he clearly wasn't thinking about the consequences of his actions when he had sex.

I don't think he will have time to deal with anything other than Brexit, but he really isn't in any position to criticise the feckless poor.

CloudPop · 24/07/2019 17:08

@Iambuffy totally agree with you. Almost guaranteed that's what will happen

letsleepingbabieslie · 24/07/2019 17:38

I woke up this morning feeling depressed about it all, but then reminded myself: Trump is President, Johnson is PM, Brexit is ongoing, Climate Crisis is here, children are kept in cages on Mexican Border.
But - Trump and Johnson are like the final emperors of the Roman Empire. They are the end of a hideous era.
And who is round the corner? Greta Thurnberg. Ilhad Omar. AOC. I like their politics, but even if you don't, the point is that misogynistic, racist, over-privileged, stale male and pale leaders are a dying breed. Just hope they hurry up and die off asap.

Toomuchtrouble4me · 24/07/2019 17:39

Fantastic speech.
Looking forward to delivery of democratic promise.

davidbritten65 · 24/07/2019 17:40

With a Boris Johnson government the disaster of Brexit is closer every day. Brexit is undeliverable, and the only way out now is another General Election in October which the buffoon Johnson may call in his arrogance. At that point please vote for a party which has in its manifesto Revoke Article 50.

Well Ken Livingston has what? 9 or 10?
Who cares - that’s their personal life.

Cosentyx · 24/07/2019 17:43

Oh, give me a break! Boris is not stupid. He won't call a GE when he just got in and knows he'll lose.

ToftyAC · 24/07/2019 17:43

Well it’s not boring, that’s for sure. Still can’t believe we’ve got our very own Trump!

browneyes77 · 24/07/2019 17:48

I’d take Boris as PM over Corbyn any day of the week.

Foramen · 24/07/2019 17:53

Oh, come on! The UK voted more than THREE YEARS ago to leave the EU and here we are STILL farting about, suffering all the economic uncertainty caused, not by Brexit (because it HASN'T HAPPENED yet in case you haven't noticed) but by the Remainer Establishment stopping the democratic decision being honoured. Maybe - and that is only a "maybe" - Boris will actually get it done. No ECJ, no open borders, electing and firing our lawmakers, trading freely world-wide. Nothing right wing or fascist about that; 40% of us lefties voted Leave.

bellinisurge · 24/07/2019 17:57

And I promise a free trampoline for everyone. If you believe it will happen it will happen. In fact, if you don't believe, you are a doomster (whatever the fuck that is) and unpatriotic.

Is that a fair summary?

Wizzywoo18 · 24/07/2019 17:58

Since 2016, I've been telling myself 'At least we don't have Donald Trump running the country'.

Now we have Boris and I feel v depressed. I can only hope he will experience all of the negative karma coming his way in full view of the voting public.

The idiotic rump of the Tory Party members who think a No Deal Brexit is nothing to worry about will get a rude awakening. But then so will we all and that's the tragedy. So many ordinary people are going to suffer.

Perhaps the one good thing to come of this is that I feel inspired to get involved in local politics because there's no point in just moaning. If we want to change things, we've got to DO something ourselves.

Lweji · 24/07/2019 17:59

A fickle small majority voted to leave.
And didn't vote for no deal or any specific deals.

Parliament majorities change over 3 years.

thatone · 24/07/2019 18:00

It is like watching a slow car crash.

Teacher22 · 24/07/2019 18:01

Get a grip. He's not a Marxist who wants to take your houses and property away from you and bomb your children's chances in life.

Pebbles574 · 24/07/2019 18:02

I don't understand all the people calling for a general election - the most likely scenario would be that the Brexit party would win the most seats (but probably not a majority) and then we'd end up with Farage as PM leading some hideous right-wing coalition!

Fibbke · 24/07/2019 18:02

Boris is nothing like Trump
He is not a far-right politician

HTH

SlinkyDogDash · 24/07/2019 18:02

I like his optimism. I hope he delivers a bright future for the country, the last few PMS have been pretty miserable.

Bleen · 24/07/2019 18:03

To be elected without an election seems so wrong to me. Only conservatives could vote. He won because he promised huge tax cuts for the rich. God help the people who are just trying to get by and those that are even poorer and need food banks. We used to be such a great caring country

GhostofFrankGrimes · 24/07/2019 18:03

Hopefully the last Tory PM and Brexit is exposed for the assortment of contradictions and downright lies that it always was.

Interesting that his speech outside No 10 talked about the NHS and education when the Tories have spent the best part of a decade destroying public services.

JonSnowIsALoser · 24/07/2019 18:04

@Foramen. Welcome to cuckoo land. Where were you for the last two years, especially when the UK has been shouting that we DO want open borders - with Ireland, i.e. the EU? But at the same time they want out of the EU.

Can you see a little problem there? A little problem nobody even mentioned in passing before the referendum.

I haven’t seen anyone - Remainer or Brexiter - give an even semi-acceptable solution to this logical contradiction.

That’s mainly why we’re still not out. Not because of what you call Remainer Establishment.

PortiaCastis · 24/07/2019 18:06

I think he's spouting bollocks he'll regret!
