We're all doomed...

Knittedjimmychoos · 24/07/2019 11:26

I also read that piece as sort of satire rather than direct attack.

However, it sails too close to the wind, rather like frankie Boyle Vile attack on people with downs syndrome as supposed satire Hmm it's just not acceptable.

Best to leave well alone.

Knittedjimmychoos · 24/07/2019 11:28

Peregrina luckily we live in country where we are allowed to ridicule those in power and luckily the queen doesn't hold much anyway.

AllSweetnessAndLight · 24/07/2019 11:39

Oh dear. Boris really needs to step up now.

user1491678180 · 24/07/2019 11:41

Have to say, I am loving the drama and histrionics that have followed Boris winning race for PM! (Mostly from millennials/gen Z.) Twitter has gone into meltdown, and I think some of them are going to need therapy. It's sooooooooooo entertaining to read all the ranty tweets. Grin

Made my day that Boris won. Grin

At LAST, a bloody Brexiteer for Prime Minister. He will soon sort this shit storm out. (Even if it means a no-deal Brexit, good old Boris will get us out, and do the job Theresa May should have done.) Smile

iwantadishwasher · 24/07/2019 11:43

Mostly from millennials/gen Z

Bollocks. Hatred of Johnson runs across all generations.

iwantadishwasher · 24/07/2019 11:45

He will soon sort this shit storm out. (Even if it means a no-deal Brexit, good old Boris will get us out, and do the job Theresa May should have done.)

Johnson will do what's best for him, not the country. Brexit is far from a certainty on his watch.

uk.yahoo.com/news/top-eu-official-launches-extraordinary-attack-on-boris-johnson-131500519.html

The EU have already started on Boris.

The sooner we are away from this controlling, power-crazy organisation, the better.

Alsohuman · 24/07/2019 11:52

You mean the Tory party?

The80sweregreat · 24/07/2019 12:01

Boris voted for the withdrawal agreement on its last outing.
I've not heard anyone mention this on the tv.

He put his trust in the PM that is about to leave , now his going to try and get another deal through I would imagine? Not till after the holidays though. That's more important of course.

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 24/07/2019 12:02

Thanks for the biscuit ssd! I prefer Tim Tams to Jammy dodgers though! Grin.

The80sweregreat · 24/07/2019 12:03

Theresa, ( I paraphrase) keeping the party together is the most important thing I have had to do.
Sums it all up.

llangennith · 24/07/2019 12:11

Could be worse if there's a General Election and Labour win, we'd have Corbyn as PM. Now that's a horrendous thought

The80sweregreat · 24/07/2019 12:15

User149..
I do admire your loyalty to the new incoming PM but see my earlier post , he voted for the withdrawal agreement on its third outing not that long ago. He did back Theresa May. Other ERG members did not.

He had lied on more than one occasion and appears to be very untrustworthy.

I'm glad you have faith , but many others don't including the 46,000 that didn't vote for him in his own party and has a majority of one ( or something similar) and still has to form a government with the help of the DUP.
We will have to see how it goes of course but so far it's not looking good whatever the spin on it may be.
I'm not a 'gen z 'I've just seen a lot of political figures come and go and heard it all before. Most governments have good and bad points. None of them are perfect.
( not a fan of J C either , I'm politically homeless to be honest)
Brexit has a lot to answer for!

DontMakeMeShushYou · 24/07/2019 12:16

I am loving the drama and histrionics that have followed Boris winning race for PM!

It was the 'race' to be party leader, not PM, although as leader of the party currently most able to form a government, it is his prerogative to choose to take the role of Prime Minister himself if he wants. In reality it's more or less semantics, but it's a shame that people don't understand better how our own political systems works.

The80sweregreat · 24/07/2019 12:18

I shudder at J C winning an election but I also shudder at a Johnson / conservative party taking us anywhere : if he doesn't deliver Brexit his toast but have to see how that pans out of course.
All of it is very deeply depressing.

TruthOnTrial · 24/07/2019 12:20

Might he be a massive hypocrit also? Maybe, possibly?

So Boris Johnson is the new PM.
PortiaCastis · 24/07/2019 12:29

Good old Boris cannot go against Parliament to take us out with a no deal and if he tries to undermine Parliament he'll be in trouble.
Dd is 20 and she says he's an idiot she'd never vote for

Iambuffy · 24/07/2019 12:30

I've said this before...

Bojo will bring the WA back with enough slighty altered language and it will pass

serenoa · 24/07/2019 12:36

I don't have time to look through all the pages to see if it's already been mentioned, but this in today's Independent is an interesting read. It made me laugh, but it also made me think 'We couldn't be so lucky... could we?

Alsohuman · 24/07/2019 12:42

Thank you @serenoa, that’s made my day.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 24/07/2019 13:09

Johnson will do what's best for him, not the country. Brexit is far from a certainty on his watch

Exactly

FWIW I'm another who voted leave, but that's no reason to be pleased Boris is now PM ... because I wouldn't trust him to run the proverbial bath

The80sweregreat · 24/07/2019 13:19

I read that article and it made me laugh. The thought of the Queen throwing her weight about ; the mind boggles.
She does what is best for her and her family so I doubt she'll start using old powers to stop anything! More likely is her greeting her new PM and adding it to the long list she's seen come and go. Nothing much affects the royals , they are rich enough to not have to worry about things like Brexit.

Juells · 24/07/2019 13:26

At LAST, a bloody Brexiteer for Prime Minister. He will soon sort this shit storm out. (Even if it means a no-deal Brexit, good old Boris will get us out, and do the job Theresa May should have done.)

Genuinely can't tell if you're just having fun winding people up. What do you think will be the result of a No Deal Brexit? Does anyone care about the international agreement signed up to by the British government?

EU politicians have pointed out that if there's a return to a hard border in Ireland nobody will want to sign anything with the UK, as your word can't be trusted. David Davis already showed that very clearly, anyway, when, having just signed up to a deal with the EU, he wafted off the plane with a big duper's smile on his face and told the press it wouldn't be adhered to. Later on he doubled down, saying “This was a statement of intent more than anything else. Much more a statement of intent than it was a legally enforceable thing.”

Why would anyone take your word for anything? Perfidious Albion! Grin

merrymouse · 24/07/2019 14:12

Even if it means a no-deal Brexit, good old Boris will get us out

We will never be 'out' because we will always be inextricably linked with the countries that share our borders and waters.

The only question is whether we have more influence with or without a seat at the table.

There will be no freedom from EU legislation, because we will always have to trade and negotiate with the EU and share common policies.

This isn't about being Churchill fighting on the beaches, it's about all the boring day to day negotiations that enable the way of life that we take for granted.
