All I can says is thank fuck I emigrated! I do worry though about friends and family in the UK, especially my family in NI. I have had three facebook messages this morning from friends, asking me how to go about either getting an Irish passport I am from NI so can hold both UK and Irish passports) . Or asking me how to emigrate to Australia, where I live now. In work today my colleagues are completely bemused about Boris getting in, as indeed they were about Brexit. This whole debacle makes me very glad that soon I will have Australian Citizenship, it was worth every penny. Good luck to you all, you're going to need it!

HennyPennyHorror · 24/07/2019 05:37

Crashing really? Hmm I've also emigrated to Oz but your post sounds like out and out gloating!

Not everyone wants to leave the UK. Some people wouldn't dream of it.

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 24/07/2019 06:01

Eh? I'm not gloating, I'm just bloody glad to be out of it. And also deeply worried about my family in NI! Of course not everyone wants to leave the, who said that? But I'm very glad I left!

Dongdingdong · 24/07/2019 06:21

“Fucking hell where's David Milliband or Ken Livingstone when you need them? Strong opposition would get rid of the joke party once and for all.”

Ha! Ha! Grin

ZenNudist · 24/07/2019 06:43

I can't watch the news any more. We are officially a laughing stock. This is the nadir.

short Great stealth boast. Helps put context

What context?
How’s it a stealth boast!? Someone suggested I apply for a position in the cabinet. It’s not a particularly well paying job compared to other ones where your history isn’t ripped apart and your safety is threatened, for the horrendous conditions and workload if the job is done right. It’s a very real reason that puts a number of highly capable people off. You may not be able to comprehend that but it’s the reality of the situation. If you think you’re up to it, stop posting socially divisive rubbish on here and step up. Thought not.

Iambuffy · 24/07/2019 08:03

Boris may well get the nuclear codes today.

Bye.

Peregrina · 24/07/2019 08:18

and their socialist dystopia in the 70’s that saw power cuts, garbage piling up in the streets.

Ah yes, and things like the three day week under that 'socialist' Ted Heath.
I love the way the extreme right wingers like to rewrite history.

We are officially a laughing stock. This is the nadir.

Sadly under Boris Johnson, there is further to go.

Patroclus · 24/07/2019 08:19

That bellend in charge of Australia is even worse

Peregrina · 24/07/2019 08:20

Maybe the bellend in Australia is worse, but they don't pretend to have an Empire, and have a 'Special' relationship with the US do they?

Woofbloodywoof · 24/07/2019 08:21

Patroclus
Absolutely. I don’t think any Australian is in a position to comment on the UK political system when their country is incapable of voting a leader in for more than five minutes.
Also, if we think our Tory mob here are reactionary, their Conservatives are even worse. And they had Pauline Hanson long before we had Farage so stones, glasshouse etc.

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 24/07/2019 08:24

Oh don't get me wrong, our politicians in Oz are a bunch of totally useless bell-ends too! But at least they aren't leading us into the shit storm that will be Brexit.

Shortstuff99 · 24/07/2019 08:27

Eh? I'm not gloating

Don’t forget this is Mumsnet which is full of poor and rich people, the only 2 types of people that there are, here the rich are to blame for everything bad that happens to the poor, for example, choose to have 5 children that you can’t afford? Well that’s not your fault is it! And if you do anything to identify as rich, which btw is anyone earning over £18k, everyone turns on you as that’s the lovely supportive Mumsnet way. So how dare you improve your life by emigrating, you show off! And even worse, you mentioned it online, rubbing it in the faces of those who could only dream of saving up £600 for an airline ticket

DontMakeMeShushYou · 24/07/2019 08:36

@Shortstuff99

Ignoring my invitation to explain your defence of Johnson's racist comments, then?

Not surprised.

Alsohuman · 24/07/2019 08:37

Oh Lord, here we go.

Iambuffy · 24/07/2019 08:39

Sigh.

You can have 5 kids with someone you love.
Live a great life.
Then they fuck off with the au pair and you have to live on UC as suddenly the kids arent so important to the person that's left...

Life can change in the blink of an eye.

It's funny like that.

Iambuffy · 24/07/2019 08:41

Thd idea of deserving vs undeserving poor that the tories have pushed since 2010 has really taken root.

Oh well. JRM thinks foodbanks are "uplifting" and likes the idea of workhouses.

There are children being kept in cages in the US.

How long til we have those here?

Peregrina · 24/07/2019 08:53

^JRM thinks foodbanks are "uplifting" and likes the idea of workhouses.

Won't happen to JRM's kids, unless one of them is daft enough to smuggle drugs in S East Asia and gets banged up in some hell hole of a jail where even Daddy's money doesn't talk.

mindproject · 24/07/2019 08:59

"Beware those men, the jokers and the tricksters and the clowns; they will laugh us into hell." Years and Years.

mindproject · 24/07/2019 09:01

At some point soon we'll reach rock bottom.

Shortstuff99 · 24/07/2019 09:02

Yes that is certainly possible as are a lot of odd scenarios. But if you can comfortably afford 5 kids it’s a bit of a stretch that the break up of the relationship would suddenly leave one partner penniless. Unless actually you couldn’t afford them in the first place? For example What happened to the former high income and assets like the marital home. Did the husband quit his job too and go on benefits? Or take them with and avoid all the mechanisms in place to ensure he keeps his responsibilities to his family? Child support agency let this one slip through the net? Divorce courts a little under par on that day?

longwayoff · 24/07/2019 09:04

Oh. God. Golden toddlers both sides of the Atlantic. I reckon we're due for a religious revival, it's all that's left to us. Let us pray . . .

Peregrina · 24/07/2019 09:05

I think you need to read a few MN relationship threads Shortstuff, where you will be able to read about ex 'D'H's clearing off, and not paying a penny in maintenance by managing to hide their assets.
