great news pity its pissed off all the remainers on here but hey ho

Puzzledandpissedoff · 23/07/2019 15:13

That he can negotiate with the EU is just laughable. He is the most unlikeable character

I'm not so sure, TBH. In his nose-in-the-trough self interest he's got more in common with many of the EU leaders than flaccid May ever had, so in theory he might just use his understanding of the mindset to get a deal

Any arrangement would of course have Boris as a main beneficiary, but that's always a given where he's concerned

Nothingcomesforfree · 23/07/2019 15:13

FiveTwoFaster

You’ve forgotten the bit where Boris actively campaigns for Brexit but refuses to run for Prime Minister when Cameron resigned. Leaving it to a Remainers to sort out.

So you can absolutely say that he is only interested in his own career and couldn’t give a stuff about the country or Brexit. And I used to quite like him. Deeds not words...

PortiaCastis · 23/07/2019 15:15

Doesn't matter if you're a leaver or a remainer if the PM fucks up the Country you're also fucked so not much point gloating.

Snoozanna · 23/07/2019 15:17

I've been disappointed by previous PMs before but wow, what a pathetic little country we've become. It'd be funny were it not so tragic,

Graphista · 23/07/2019 15:17

You're deluded if you think the queen is remotely concerned about this! Why do people think the royal family gives a fuck about those of us worst off while they live lives of huge privilege in enormous palaces! She married a blatant racist arse if you think she doesn't hold very similar views to Johnson and the conservatives generally you're very much mistaken!

As a disabled single mum with a disabled dd this is extremely shite news! My only possible hope is that as I live in Scotland MAYBE independence will come (and I voted against that in indyref, quite honestly regretting now!) and he will no longer be my pm.

To northern Irish mners my heart absolutely goes out to you as I DREAD to think of the ramifications of this for you. Maybe you should go independent too? I know a lot of people think your only choices are stay in the union or join the Republic of Ireland but I don't see why you can't be completely independent.

"nobody in Britain seems to understand (or care) what a disaster that will be for Northern Ireland." I wrote the above before I read this, I think/hope you mean the politicians don't care. Certainly myself and many other "ordinary" people do care, unfortunately we don't hold much power to help you, wish we did!

To those STILL spouting crap about Corbyn and the Labour Party if you're not AT LEAST upper mc possibly with a good amount of savings too, do you REALLY still believe you're better off under conservatives with Johnson as PM?!!! Again if so I really think you're deluded to the point of self sabotage!

Lib dems have just elected Jo Swinson who is also no friend to the poor and disadvantaged. Not only consistently voting against improvements to welfare benefits but even voting against job creation policies and funding for students!

@acunningruse - see above paragraph, you genuinely don't have a problem with that?!

Alsohuman · 23/07/2019 15:18

Phil said he’d resign tomorrow morning. Leaving present for Theresa before she goes to the Palace.

Graphista · 23/07/2019 15:18

"The Fixed Term Parliament Act mandates that if an incoming prime minister cannot form a government and get the approval of the House within two weeks, then we have a general election." Here's hoping for more resignations and that the British public gets a clue and stops self sabotaging then!

"I know the pubic persona of the bumbling idiot is what most people see" that's an insulting assumption! A major reason he terrifies the shit out of me and many others is because he ISN'T an idiot! He knows EXACTLY what he's doing and it isn't going to be policies that help those of us worst off! Because he's also an uncaring, prejudiced, callous arsehole!

"you might hopefully be surprised at what he can achieve" do you REALLY think what he wants to achieve is better living standards for the poor, sick and disabled? Reducing homelessness? Peaceful relations with our neighbours in Europe? An end to "austerity" policies? Stopping the lining of the pockets of himself and his cronies? Don't be ridiculous! I can only assume that you are pretty well off yourself if you think he's at all a good choice.

"When will people realise - Brexit is not going to work. The only way it will happen is a disastrous no deal scenario and we will pay the price of that for generations." Hear hear! I am hoping (probably desperately admittedly) that if Scotland goes independent we can either remain or rejoin EU.

"Isn't it quite damning that they all feel they can't get a word in edgeways on here?" Rubbish! Of course they can comment but 9/10 they can't defend/debate their decisions adequately or sensibly and end up flouncing! Usually after some name calling!

"You cannot keep re-voting just until you get the result that you like" actually voting to change things because we have more knowledge and information is exactly what happens in a true democracy. I know a good many people in real life who voted leave who now regret it, the referendum was very poorly run and a lot of key information wasn't provided or discussed.

"Brexiters deserve him. Should be an interesting autumn." Problem is them dragging the rest of us down with them!

"I'm from a very pro- leave area (Cornwall) but the folk who voted to leave just don't seem to grasp we've just thrown a lot down the drain." Yes! I really struggle to understand why certain areas that benefit the MOST out of us being in the EU voted leave! Wales absolutely stunned me! Why they think conservative brexiteers give a shit about them I do not know!

@shinesweetfreedom WHAT immigration problem?! Where on earth are you getting your "info" from?! The sun?!

"My prediction is that he’ll take the record for the shortest serving PM in history." Less than 119 days? Let's hope, though I can still see him causing serious damage in even a short amount of time!

To those asking "why dude?" He's apparently created an acronym

Deliver
Unite
Defeat
Energise

According to his very disturbing speech. How he can think unite and defeat are compatible I don't know.

Curiousaboutsamphire your post about certain immigrants (which I WON'T repeat is purely thinly veiled racism. Such thinking has NO place in a decent functioning uk.

Apologies if this has already been linked to, but this article made me feel slightly more optimistic when it was written a couple of months ago.

Roussette · 23/07/2019 15:18

inesj that is very scary.

serenoa · 23/07/2019 15:21

Lifelong Labour Party member here.

Momentum supports us staying in the EU and will campaign for that in a new vote. They've gained Labour a lot of votes by getting out on the streets in all weathers, and talking and actually listening to what's being said to them, and passing it back up the chain. John McDonnell is definitely listening, not so sure about JC.

Alsohuman · 23/07/2019 15:24

Thanks @TrentBridge, I’ve got a lot of time for Matthew Parris.

ContactLight · 23/07/2019 15:25

Have never been fooled by his lovable buffoon routine

Me neither.

russ105 · 23/07/2019 15:25

Strap yourselves in it's going to be a rollercoaster!

LoafEater · 23/07/2019 15:30

Boris is my MP. This was embarrassing enough .....

He has a 5k majority in what has been a safe Tory seat for 20 years. The last one had a 12k majority. At the 2015 election, Momentum dropped in a woke bro and pushed aside a long time (female), and much loved local party member who lived and worked in Uxbridge, who had done great work in the community. Result, many pissed off local Labour voters and a loss to BJ.

Labour have thier work cut out around here.

noodlenosefraggle · 23/07/2019 15:30

I also think he is intelligent and not necessarily even pro Brexit. I think he genuinely does not care about people and is perfectly prepared to do no deal for Britain

Completely agree. And thats why he is Trump like. I dont think Trump is racist. I dont think he gives enough of a stuff to be racist. He cares that a large proportion of his voters are racist. Boris doesn't give a damn about Brexit but he does give a damn that a lot of people who would vote him into power want Brexit. Hes a bullshitter of the highest order. I can only hope he thinks that a no deal Brexit would be such a disaster for him personally that he doesnt do it.

hellsbellsmelons · 23/07/2019 15:33

I never ever thought the day would come when I would pray for JH to be prime minister
Amen to that.
What a friggin' mess!

serenoa · 23/07/2019 15:35

We are awash with government and zombie like efficiency.

What on earth are you smoking? This country doesn't have an effective government, it just has a shitload of Tory parasites sitting in the top jobs, blocking others who could do the jobs far better.

SnowsInWater · 23/07/2019 15:40

Commiserations.

EllebellyBeeblebrox · 23/07/2019 15:42

Fucking hell. I don't have any other words.

So Boris Johnson is the new PM.
Xyzzzzz · 23/07/2019 15:43

I am in shock

Oblomov19 · 23/07/2019 15:48

God save us from ourselves!

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 23/07/2019 15:50

You can bet your bottom dollar Boris lies awake at night dreaming of being crowned most popular PM ever. It’s written all over his face

So he wants to be Caesar? That's comforting.

So it's become an interesting testosterone filled world, one where tough talking men are in charge of the major powers which matter most.

Putin, Trump, Boris... don't know how long Merkel will last.

Trump and Boris working together. I think they will achieve much. I'm counting on a war of some kind, and a much closer alliance and the NHS diminishing.

LBC will do the fanclubbing as will jis mate Farage. Its going to be fun.
