I've found a possible silver lining! So if he's unable to form a government, then there'll be a GE, the Tories will win again (sadly, but being realistic), then presumably another leadership contest, and Brexit will have to be delayed - mild yay?

Mordred · 23/07/2019 14:06

Still, the bright thing in all this is that it'll bring about the eventual breakup of the UK. Good.

I've been getting better and better at ignoring everything Brexit related, but unfortunately the horror of BJ as PM has infiltrated my deflector shield...

I must redouble my efforts to ignore things I cannot change....

loobyloo1234 · 23/07/2019 14:13

Shame on everyone that ticked that box for him

TuesdaySunshine · 23/07/2019 14:13

I don't want a general election. A lot of the brightest, hardest working, most constitutionally savvy MPs who are currently working their asses off to stop the country self-annihilating will lose their seats, thanks to the lock-her-up/send-her-back style of ignorant dogwhistle politics that this country seems to have bought wholesale from Farage.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 23/07/2019 14:14

Be fair looby the alternative was Jeremy Hunt!

Chembabe · 23/07/2019 14:15

My daughter's two best mates from Canada (both recent graduates in International affairs and Law) have just Face timed her saying OMG You're fucked what are you going to do???? ARE YOU OK???!!! If that's what two 21 year olds from over there think of BOJO what opinion does the rest of the thinking world hold?

SkelterHelter · 23/07/2019 14:16

Also momentum had already mobilised 100s of activists to BJs Ruislip constituency. He has a majority of just over 5k. Bring it on Boris call a snap election

Momentum or Boris. Christ almighty is that what we've come to. I'm lucky enough to have citizenship of a country many people world like to live in, maybe now is the time to think about the big move Grin

Cymbalon · 23/07/2019 14:16

Can posters who say he’s very clever please give an example of how he has shown his intelligence in public life? I’ve yet to witness anything he’s done or said that hints at intelligence or insight.

SistemaAddict · 23/07/2019 14:17

This

So Boris Johnson is the new PM.
bellinisurge · 23/07/2019 14:18

Going to enjoy watching him crash and burn but it's a pity we all get screwed at the same time.

fotheringhay · 23/07/2019 14:18

It's weird to think that those who voted for him genuinely believe they're doing the right thing. The majority of Tory party members won't have personal political ambitions, and they're not just Tory voters who want to benefit personally from a Tory government.

They joined the party because they think the party being in charge is best for the country. They many like or hate Boris, but they think/know that he'll get more votes, which is crucial because they honestly believe Labour are dangerous for the country.

Theresa May believes this - I can see it at PMQs when a Labour MP is talking total sense to her - she calculates that despite everything, Labour would be too dangerous if in charge.

I'm a passionate Labour party member (hate Corbyn though), and it's interesting how many of my comrades Grin don't understand this perspective

Deathraystare · 23/07/2019 14:19

Well he wouldn't be happy until he'd given it a go. He wants his chance at f*cking us up royally. What with The Donald and now this clown - well I can honestly say it won't affect the person in the street - in a good way, but the rich will be ok.

Should I emigrate? (But not to USA!)

Neptunesgiraffe · 23/07/2019 14:22

I came here to say, "we're fucked" but I see I've been beaten to it.
Many times.

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 23/07/2019 14:22

I suppose the thing he's not a man of principle. He's not ideologically pro Brexit (or pro anything, apart from himself), he just thought that is what would get him elected by the 0.25% of the population who had a say. If the wind blows in the other direction, he'll call it off. And still come out on top. He only wants PM on his CV.

The centre left and right really need to collaborate and mobilise.

Chembabe · 23/07/2019 14:26

Will he still be able to write for the Telegraph and get paid for that?

No @Chembabe. That’s about the only upside to this shitshow I can see. He’s going to be about £200k a year down. My heart bleeds.

Woofbloodywoof · 23/07/2019 14:29

‘The rest of the thinking world’
😂😂😬😬

That’s just the problem. Only a small fraction of the electorate actually think. Rigorously. Critically. Impartially.

You can look at this either way; Boris has been PM in waiting for at least a decade, why anybody is surprised is beyond me.
I have never voted Tory so not automatically a fan, but a cursory glance at his proposed policies, one of which is to borrow to end austerity, sounds just like...
Labour. And many have commented how much he likes to please people so, even if it takes the continuation of the well established Ponzi scheme of IMF borrowing at least we should get some shiny new hospitals and more police on the ground. You can bet your bottom dollar Boris lies awake at night dreaming of being crowned most popular PM ever. It’s written all over his face. He still thinks the world can be run just like Pop at Eton.

To his credit, he is a true Brexiteer (his stuff at The Telegraph when he was Brussels correspondent confirms this, I don’t buy the idea peddled that he wrote two speeches arguing for either side the day before declaring his support for Leave.) Again, A’s a Remain voter it’s not what I voted for but I’m happy someone who believes in it will deliver it.

Honestly. It was hardly happy times in the fag end days of Blair/Brown. This is pretty similar except with added Latin and one hell of a public spending debt at the end of his term.

He is an extrovert Liberal. They’re all sociopaths - yes, even Uncle Jeremy - at least this will be vaguely entertaining. And if he wants us all to love him, he’ll have to offer us things we actually want.

(Not Revoking Article 50, that has to happen now I’m afraid.)

Cheer up. It may get end ok, not well, but just ok.

Chembabe · 23/07/2019 14:33

@Alsohuman haha but I wonder if he's got his own secret AB like Mr Farage who might stump him a few quid if he gets short.

user1486131602 · 23/07/2019 14:34

Millions of pounds and two months wasted........and what a surprise!
Politics in this country is a load of old codswallop!

Darkcloudsandsunnydays · 23/07/2019 14:35

Completely disagree.

We are awash with government and zombie like efficiency.

One more bod in the swamp won’t make any difference.

IsobelRae23 · 23/07/2019 14:35

It’s like the start of a bad joke:- three men walked into a bar, they were the leaders of the UK, USA and Russia/North Korea (insert which ever is more appropriate). But seriously, it is just 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️
