Makes you proud to be British doesn't it ………..

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 23/07/2019 13:48

I guess doobi this may well be tue catalist for something new and revolutionnary for the better

Mordred · 23/07/2019 13:48

Our new Prime Minister, chosen by a voting base of around 160,000 people with an average age of 57, and of which 4 out of 10 are 65+.

I remember how vocal Boris was when Brown replaced Blair, calling it a disgrace and there should have been a General Election. He's not saying that now.

You are my kinda gal!

PortiaCastis · 23/07/2019 13:51

That made me ashamed Noextreme

Puzzledandpissedoff · 23/07/2019 13:51

SnotandBothered I take your point about getting on with leaving for good or ill, but I'm not convinced Boris has any intention of doing it, "agenda" or not

As always, whatever he does will be based only on what's most advantageous for Boris

ssd · 23/07/2019 13:52

The sooner we get independence the better. Scotland has always been a much more socialist country than England, hence us voting to remain. Nicola Sturgeon will be pleased Boris is pm, that will further her cause like nothing else.

Cinammoncake · 23/07/2019 13:52

Is it possible that he is just playing hard ball with the EU and all this talk of leaving without a deal is a huge bluff?

I believe he/some other people have said this. Because of course 'the EU' never watched our news so shhh they'll never know.
Ultimately that big bluff will backfire because

  1. The ERG and other ultra right wingers are determined to get no deal
  2. It will hurt us far more than it'll hurt the EU. Obvious (but seemingly not to some people.)

Interesting the comments on here about immigration. That was all it was about for a lot of the brexiters probably wasn't it. Anti immigrant sentiment. We'd still have immigrants anyway, just from other places outside the EU.

TuesdaySunshine · 23/07/2019 13:53

Yes, we are fucked. Except to say that the implications are so awful that parliament may finally be jolted into doing the right thing and voting to cancel this shitshow or at least letting us vote to cancel this shitshow.

I also think that constitutionally speaking, Theresa May is obliged not to resign if she believes her successor won't be in a position to form a governement, so if enough Tories (+/- the DUP) announce today that they would vote against BJ in a confidence vote, then she may not resign at all. Although where that would leave us I do not know.

The UK is doomed. This is the beginning of the endgame imo.

Walkingthedog46 · 23/07/2019 13:53

We’ve got our very own Trump!

Queenunikitty · 23/07/2019 13:53

Just had an annual canvas of electors through the door this morning. Think he may call an election. Let’s see what happens. Also it is worth thinking about how lucky we are to be able to have a say and how many people in our world are disenfranchised.

fotheringhay · 23/07/2019 13:55

Have had a sad thought - This could be the last day in my lifetime with a female monarch and a female prime minister Sad

I realise TM did almost nothing to help woman, but as a feminist - and as a little girl, with Thatcher - it's important in a way I can't really describe, but definitely feel

Roussette · 23/07/2019 13:55

Yes, although Remainers on here have hotly denied that in the past

haloumi · 23/07/2019 13:55

Great. We have a PM that nobody voted for with right-wing leanings and actually NO SHITS given about anybody but himself.

He'll get Katie Hopkins in as an advisor probably...

the cXnt.

Paramicha · 23/07/2019 13:55

Dear God, give us strength. I know they are all pretty shit, but he's a slobbering gibbering idiot.
I never trust people with wet mouths slobbering like a dog.

QueenBlueberries · 23/07/2019 13:56

If it's a bluff, then it's a bloody expensive one and we are paying millions of pounds of our money because of it. We are not fucking poker tokens. I don't want to be part of a cards game with anyone, the EU or the US or anyone else.

I think that a 'no deal' Brexit was the plan all along, because the government doesn't have the ability or will to untangle us from the EU and the conservative party is too weak to stand up to Brextremists within the party, and outside the party.

Whosorrynow · 23/07/2019 13:58

😱

CuriousaboutSamphire · 23/07/2019 13:58

Oh I can believe how people think brexit will sort the immigration problem out I suspect those psters post for just for the responses!

FriarTuck · 23/07/2019 14:00

She'd probably make a better PM than him.....

serenoa · 23/07/2019 14:01

@AngeloMysterioso

I understood that it meant that he has to both be able to form a government and command the confidence of the Commons. I put it badly, I think it means that he, personally, should be able to command the confidence of the HoC, not the whole government.

Thinking about it, it's easy enough to nominate someone for a government post... like Priti Patel for Home Secretary (Jesus wept!). Is that report true?

But you made me wonder what the confidence part actually means. Does it mean something more than what I'd thought, which is that the new prime minister has to be considered trustworthy and honest? Not get the nation into stupid wars over stuff like middle-Eastern oil, that kind of thing. John Bolton has us well and truly made fools of, and involved, on that.

Is that what the confidence part means, do you think? I'm not sure what else it could mean. I don't think even Theresa May could recommend BJ to the Queen as being honest and trustworthy and able to command the confidence of the Commons, with a straight face. Johnson revels in ignoring the truth in favour of getting himself on the front pages. Narcissist extraordinaire. He'd probably prefer that in Latin and call it a compliment.

We live in interesting times.

iwantadishwasher · 23/07/2019 14:02

@ConkerGame Jo Swinson also voted pro-austerity, pro-bedroom tax, pro-welfare cuts pro-increasing student fees, anti-raising taxes for high earners etc etc.

BishopofBathandWells · 23/07/2019 14:03

We're fucked. I feel really depressed again today, rather like the Brexit vote day. Oh well, best start adding to the stockpile again. Wearily adds chickpeas to shopping list

VickyEadie · 23/07/2019 14:03

What immigration problem? You mean the one where we no longer have enough staff for our NHS and care services? Or do you mean the fictional one where we are being 'overrun' by immigrants?

Indeed...despite all the evidence to the contrary, your average pro-Brexit person still believes what is clearly not true.
