I give him 6 months. He’s a manipulative moron with an expensive education who’s been promoted way above his ability and aptitude. What a moron.

Outsomnia · 23/07/2019 13:15

OK Johnson is a total charlatan and a buffoon. We all know that.

However, he may push back TM's red lines especially as far as having a border in the Irish Sea. I do realise that the DUP are propping up the Government, but a change to the WA like this, which would be supported by EU (and Ireland a the member most affected), might just get through Parliament as a "New Deal".

Let's face it most Tories couldn't give a damn about NI really.

If he does get that through, well, it's the best outcome in my view. EU will engage in Trade Talks, ROI and NI will not have a hard border. No backstop issues.

Does anyone think it might work, dressed up as victory!

BeardedMum · 23/07/2019 13:16

I don’t get who these people are who think Brexit is still a great idea. Surely we have all the evidence it is not a good idea now? Are people not following the news at all?

VladmirsPoutine · 23/07/2019 13:16

He's already been welcomed by Trump and Oz's far right agitator. This isn't a joke. We are fucked.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 23/07/2019 13:16

But he is probably right!

There is HUGE support for that, no matter what MNers think.

The reality is that the country, its voting population is deadlocked. Just as parliament is.

There will be no 'good' outcome. And now I couldn't give flying fuck whether we leave or remain... the bigger picture is far more unsettling!

Outsomnia I'm a Remainer in NI and I could live with that. I do hope you're right.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 23/07/2019 13:18

'That' being the Brexit party. Given a clear run at a GE and enough candidates they shouldn't be discounted!

ssd · 23/07/2019 13:19

What has happened to the world? Boris, Trump, that right wing guy in Brazil?
What's going on?

Sistersis · 23/07/2019 13:19

British politics is a reflection of the British people, so the state of the country reflects the voters and their values. The lack of questioning your politicians, believing whatever drivel the media spews that is not fact checked. Constantly giving air time to people who give unsubstantiated views (but I guess its freedom of speech) the list goes on......

Save your disgust for something else, you may not have voted for him but your peers have. Now just concentrate on making the most of 'brexit means brexit' whatever people thought that would look like! Let me grab my popcorn.

Doobigetta · 23/07/2019 13:19

I think this had to happen. I actually think things are likely to get better now:

  • the sane Tories will have to confront the fact that they need to ditch their party and work with othets
  • the sane Labour MPs will have to get off the fence and get rid of Corbyn, to give them a chance at winning an election, or at least a pact with the Lib Dems
  • I disagree strongly with Jo Swinson about some things (gender issues for starters) but I think she is smart enough and credible enough to increase their vote share and have an influence again

So I do think this is the end of the beginning, at least. We had to hit this rock bottom for people to stop pissing about as if it’s a game, ridiculous as that is. The unknown is how much damage he’ll be able to do before he is stopped, but he will be stopped.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 23/07/2019 13:19

Unfortunately a stuffed gorilla could win a GE against Corbyn

And some might well feel that's exactly what we've got - only more dangerous Hmm

Not to worry, though; he'll probably be on a sexual harassment charge very soon ...

CuriousaboutSamphire · 23/07/2019 13:20

We were talking about that here ast night, Doobi and that was pretty much the conclusion we came to, with our fingers crossed!

alligatorsmile · 23/07/2019 13:23

The parties are still arguing like Party Politics is still relevant or comprehensible. I have no idea what Labour stand for any more (except dithering), or the Conservatives (except tearing chunks out of one another), or the Lib Dems (except being spineless), or anyone. I can't vote for any of them, I don't want this outmoded model that doesn't mean anything anymore.

Pannalash · 23/07/2019 13:23

Great news.

rubberduckyyouretheone · 23/07/2019 13:23

That little critter from The Nut Job keeps jumping in my mind "we're all going to die".

LadyBumclock · 23/07/2019 13:23

I’m in Scotland and voted no to independence. Now i’d probably vote yes, to my own horror. I loathe Scottish nationalism, and I think it’s a terrible reason for independence. But divorcing from a sinking Britain and possibly being able to rejoin the EU is quite a good reason. It’s not really Nicola sturgeon’s fault if Britain makes itself so appalling that Scots vote to leave. Yes I’m sure she is happy but it’s London politicians that have created this situation - Cameron, Corbyn, May and now Johnson if he actually makes brexit happen.

Shinesweetfreedom · 23/07/2019 13:24

Ah good,on with the show, let’s get out of the EU and sort the immigration problem out.

OneOfOurOwn · 23/07/2019 13:24

I could weep.

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 23/07/2019 13:24

Unfortunately a stuffed gorilla could win a GE against Corbyn

Absolutely,

And some might well feel that's exactly what we've got - only more dangerous

Oh thats the problem and unfortanly one with even less brian power is in power over the pond

HouseworkAvoider10 · 23/07/2019 13:25

Fuck.
God help us all.

historysock · 23/07/2019 13:25

What immigration problem? You mean the one where we no longer have enough staff for our NHS and care services? Or do you mean the fictional one where we are being 'overrun' by immigrants?

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 23/07/2019 13:26

Ah good,on with the show, let’s get out of the EU and sort the immigration problem out

Where are you going to send us all back too??

Birmingham? London? Manchester??

DarlingNikita · 23/07/2019 13:26

I tend to agree, Doobi.

callmeadoctor · 23/07/2019 13:26
