It certainly made for a ranty start to the day.

My rise and shine just vanished.

One heck of a stalking horse...........

lionheart · 14/09/2019 01:58

Interesting.

www.politico.com/story/2019/09/13/schiff-maguire-intelligence-1496135

'The nation's top intelligence official is illegally withholding a whistleblower complaint, possibly to protect President Donald Trump or senior White House officials, House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff alleged Friday.

Schiff issued a subpoena for the complaint, accusing acting Director of National Intelligence Joseph Maguire of taking extraordinary steps to withhold the complaint from Congress, even after the intel community's inspector general characterized the complaint as credible and of "urgent concern."'

Wheels are turning or coming off or something.

'The Justice Department said Friday that a request to a federal court from House Democrats seeking access to secret grand jury material underlying special counsel Robert Mueller's report should be turned down because the lawmakers have "come nowhere close to demonstrating a particularized need" for the information.'

Wheels are turning or coming off or something.

Scrotus & his GOP henchmen have been 'riding the rims' since inauguration day.

I'm still not getting excited as far as actual impeachment goes. It's only 14 months til election day. The GOP will tie this up in court until then easily. The most I'm hoping for is a drip, drip, drip of damaging information that will help the 'undecideds' decide.

IF there's going to be an impeachment, it will happen if there is a second term. I think that's why the Dems have timed this as they have. It's to be within 'striking distance' to start proceedings immediately after a 2nd inauguration.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 14/09/2019 16:18

But if he is dragged off to jail (👏) then who would take over?

lionheart · 14/09/2019 16:57

I think the Nixon dramas dragged on for a long time didn't they? Perhaps it feels longer because of 24/7 news and social media.

The House Judiciary Cmte started impeachment hearings against Nixon on May 9 1974. They drafted 3 articles of impeachment by July 30 1974. Nixon resigned August 8 1974.

The whole Watergate Scandal lasted about 2 years from the break in to the resignation.

I think the current Cmte will take much longer as the Watergate Cmte had loads of readily available evidence including tapes and outright confessions. And especially they had John Dean singing like a canary.

AND they had the GOP as invested in protecting the dignity of the presidency as they were. And that's a huge difference. The party of Scrotus is going to drag its feet as much as it can. It's going to be like pulling teeth for this Cmte to get anything.

lionheart · 14/09/2019 18:10

Thanks Across.

It will also go on for many years after a new President is inaugurated.

A hunter from Florida has been allowed to import the skin etc of a lion he killed in Tanzania even though the US Endangered Species Act forbids it. His lawyer is on Trump’s International Wildlife Conservation Council, which encourages trophy hunting.

Here's the nicest bit of this article...
It might also take some of the edge off the hatred many people feel for Trump. Seeing him for what he is—a terribly damaged soul, a broken man, a person with a disordered mind—should not lessen our revulsion at how Trump mistreats others, at his cruelty and dehumanizing actions. Nor should it weaken our resolve to stand up to it. It does complicate the picture just a bit, though, eliciting some pity and sorrow for Trump.

But above all, accepting the truth about Trump’s mental state will cause us to take more seriously than we have our democratic duty, which is to prevent a psychologically and morally unfit person from becoming president.

The office is too powerful, and the consequences are too dangerous, to allow a person to become president who views morality only through the prism of whether an action advances his own narrow interests, his own distorted desires, his own twisted impulses. When an individual comes to believe his interests and those of the nation he leads are one and the same, it opens the door to all sorts of moral and constitutional devilry.

Oh dear lord.

The Sunday Telegraph's headline this morning is "Corbyn could pass US intelligence to Russia." ShockGrin

Mm, yes, clearly Jeremy Corbyn will be the one blurting US intelligence to anyone who stands still long enough to listen... And JC with the special friend in Moscow...

Brett Kavanaugh is back in the news (and obviously, Trump is defending him)
