Seeing so many threads about properties and the difference in prices reported I get why it can be so difficult for people to imagine the differences between areas.

Would IBU to be curious and ask you to hop on primelocation and see what are the cheapest and the most expensive properties within 5 miles of your home? Ignore shared ownership, retirement only and investment student studios. Obviously you don't have to post links, just say the area so you can keep anonymous.

I will start.
NW big city
The cheapest:
2 bed flat 35k. Fully livable! Just needs decorating. 15 min to city centre.
The most expensive: 😮
8 bed, oh so amazing, grade 2 listed £1,995,000. 25 min to city centre.

I just did for one mile, in a city, Scotland.
Offers over 999,000 and offers over 90,000.

SE but less than 5 miles from manchester i get several 2 bed terraces for 65k each in ashton, droylesden and audenshaw

Top end is 4 bed detached with land and equestrian centre for 1.75 million in werneth low or some 5 bed detached for 1.6m in heaton moor or bramhall.

Lanarkshire

Cheapest - £20000 2 bed flat rather mouldy, 3 of the neighbours burnt down last week

Highest - o/o £749995 - detached 7 bed house with stable and tack room. I'm actually in love with it's stairway/entrance hall.

Exeter

Most expensive £3.95 million. 10 bed Manor House in 10 acres. 25 mins drive from city.

Least expensive (excluding park homes, shared ownership and cash buyers only) 1 bed studio flat with communal garden and parking space 10. Approx 2 miles from city centre

NE Scotland

Dearest: £1.1m for an 11 bed baronial mansion with 9 acres of land (inc pond). They’ve already dropped the price from valuation £1.25m, so I reckon you could probably get it for a million, especially as it’s been up for sale for three years now.
Cheapest: £75k for a two bed flat. There are a couple of them to choose from.choose from.

Highest is 2,800,000 5 bed detached, lowest is 30,000 studio flat

Most expensive - 18 bedroom (!) ex-church detached house. It is not in a nice area though: 1.35 million

Cheapest non-retirement, non park home, non shared ownership is studio flat £110,000 (but there is a possibility it might be compulsory purchased at some point), next cheapest is 1 bed flat for £170,000.
Highest on Zoopla is £1.7 M
But Knight Frank is about £3M (quite low really).

Ps the 3.8m is actually a country estate with a swimming pool, tennis courts and equestrian milarky so not just a house

West Sussex - most expensive £6,750,000 mansion house, cheapest £110,000 tiny studio flat

Cheapest (not including shared ownership or over 55s): £76,000 for 1 bed flat

Most expensive: £1,400,000 for grade II listed 8 bedroom, 5 bathroom house plus carriage house (used as garaging, workshops and barns).

Just done nearest town, not five miles. £10,000 guide price for a 2 bed flat, 2 bed terraces from around £25,000. Large period detached £900,000.

Avoided the five miles as it can, as the crow flies, take in some parts of the Lake District National Park and that is not a true reflection of the area. You can pay £300,000 for a two bed old mining cottage like my Great Aunt had with an outside privy!

NW London
£35,950,000
£325,000 although I am not convinced that the search is correct because it seems to be too far out.

(Prime Location is a horrible website, much prefer Rightmove - better search options).

Manchester

Was very surprised that most expensive was a four bedroom flat at £3.5 million- but it’s a penthouse in Beetham Tower!

Cheapest is a £60k one bedroom flat in Salford.

Makes me very glad we bought our house when we did.

Coastal town, NI

Cheapest - one bed end terrace, 48k

Expensive - 800k house with loads of bedrooms and outhouses.

West Midlands town:

Cheapest:

£19,000... for a garage and parking space.

£57,500 for a 25% share in a three bedroomed terrace.

£90,000 for a non-shared studio flat, but it has tenants in situ and is only available to cash buyers due to a 'short lease'.

Cheapest non-shared, no weird conditions attached is £110,000 for a one bedroomed flat.

Most expensive is over £3 million for a six bedroomed detached house.

Cheapest is 1 bed flat at 70k. Looks like its quite modern but in need of a clean.

Most expensive is £1.95m and is 6 bed mansion in 1.4 acres. It looks beautiful.

East mids

Surrey
