The cheapest and the most expensive property within 5 miles...

TheFridgeRaider · 22/07/2019 19:24

Seeing so many threads about properties and the difference in prices reported I get why it can be so difficult for people to imagine the differences between areas.

Would IBU to be curious and ask you to hop on primelocation and see what are the cheapest and the most expensive properties within 5 miles of your home? Ignore shared ownership, retirement only and investment student studios. Obviously you don't have to post links, just say the area so you can keep anonymous.

I will start.

Boohooyouho · 23/07/2019 09:44

East London suburbs.
4.6m 7 bed detatched with pool
120k 1 bed flat in a pretty grim area, outside the borough.

Pgjp129 · 23/07/2019 09:45

Large town in Shropshire £105k for 2 bed flat just around the corner
£850k 4 bed grade 1 listed house 4 miles away.

Both nice in their own way. The flat is very neutral throughout and the 4bed has lots of dark wood panelling.

Germany Baden-Württemburg, near black forest.

€4.3m (£3.87m) - 5 storey villa from 1902 with 11.5 rooms (that means 11 rooms excluding kitchens, bathrooms and corridors, and one is extra-large, usually an open plan livng/kitchen kind of thing.) 5 bathrooms but only one parking space. It is gorgeous to be fair Shock but no photos of outside which makes me wonder about the condition. It's currently split into two flats but could be combined.

€209k (£188k) - 3 bedroom detached house in dated but good condition (no installed kitchen though) - comes with barn halfway through a conversion, four cellars, three garages, attic, decent garden and driveway too.

People don't buy individual flats here very often, they rent and when you buy a house you live in it for 40-60 years generally then it is sold when you die or move into a home. Because there are such high costs/fees/taxes for buying I've heard it's economically cheaper to rent unless you're definitely going to be in a house more than 10 years.

abcyz · 23/07/2019 10:23

Outskirts of the Lake District...

Most expensive: £925,000 - 4 bed, 4 bath detached house with 2 acres of land and a balcony.

Cheapest: £110,000 - 1 bed, 1 bath ground floor apartment. Good condition, but pretty tiny.

[Side note - I had to trawl through 3 pages of static caravans, wood cabins and retirement properties to find the first house that met your criteria!]

purplelass · 23/07/2019 10:25

Berkshire
