Do you enjoy smoking?

Ok so just that really, do you enjoy smoking?

Bit more to the reason why I am asking ... Yesterday I was in a hot car with a friend who used to smoke cigs but now has one of those vapes, I hate it! Really hate it so much I want to burn the sodding thing an watch it melt lol. 😂

I was sitting there in a cloud of shit, that was strawberry. I ended up blowing up at him. I told him to smoke the real thing instead! Yes cigs stink too but damn vapes to hell, they give off so much smoke or whatever it's called. I found myself wanting to slap it out of his hand. Oh and he sucks on that thing more then he used to smoke.

Yes I know I was BU, but it was hot, stuffy and being choked on strawberry fake shit just pushed me over the edge. Angry

Anyway rant over, back to my question do you enjoy smoking and do you smoke the real McCoy or vape?

Also am I on my own in hating vapes? Does anyone else think they are annoying? Just why not quit if you don't enjoy smoking anymore? 🤔

Yes. I smoke the real things. It's not just the physical sensation that's pleasant, it's the way they give you a five minute pause from life.

I don't like the smell of fruity vapes, but minty ones or those that are meant to smell like real cigarettes are OK.

I only smoke outdoors. I don't drive, but I can't imagine how anyone could juggle a real cigarette with driving. Putting it out would be a nightmare, unless you were happy to be one of those people who throws the end out of the window (which I wouldn't be - I hate littering). I can understand why a driver would use a vape in the car!

Pyjamaface · 22/07/2019 18:25

I bloody love smoking. I smoke outdoors at home only (apart from school runs when I have 1 on the walk home after dropping off). It soothes my soul

However, I am quitting tomorrow. It's a gigantic waste of money and is slowly killing me so no more. I am not going to start vaping instead, they are still a gigantic waste of money and they all smell rank. I am cold turkeying it and using the massive amount of housework and gardening I have to do as a distraction

pickletickled · 22/07/2019 18:35

Yep! I enjoy smoking real cigs. That said I am currently cutting right down as I smoke too much.
I don't really like ecigs but do have one for when I'm at work and having a real cig is often not doable.

YourSarcasmIsDripping · 22/07/2019 18:37

Smoke the real thing. I've tried vapes but it's not the same. I definitely enjoy smoking and the whole ritual.

Asta19 · 22/07/2019 18:39

I smoke and I enjoy it. One of my favourite things to do is go to a country that allows smoking indoors (there's still a few around!) and have a relaxing coffee and cigarette! I don't spend that much on mine either as I buy them when I go away, and bring enough home to see me through till next time. I can't remember the last time I bought a pack in this country. I wouldn't bother vaping. For a start you can't vape indoors (except at home) so if I have to go outside anyway, I may as well have a real cigarette. I agree that people who vape do it a lot more than they would smoke. I've noticed that too. Yes I'm aware it may kill me but I've seen a few people around me now die, who had healthy lifestyles, didn't smoke etc. So I'll take my chances.

VampirateQueen · 22/07/2019 18:42

I smoke the real thing, I don't enjoy it. I quit for 5 years and started again as I had a lot of things going on, was super stressed and just needed a crutch, I hate those vape things, I have tried a couple of times to quit and just can't seem to do it. I am going to give it another go when the kids go back to school.

Wombleish · 22/07/2019 18:44

I used to love smoking. I preferred roll-ups and smoked about 20-25 a day Blush

I gave up for my now DH 10 years ago: he didn't ask me to, I just thought it was time. If I was giving up now, I'd probably try vaping, but I wouldn't smoke the fruity ones, more likely licorice flavour or something. I must admit that I very rarely smell vape 'smoke' when out and about and I think I'd feel a bit nauseous if I did smell it.

debsisamumnow · 22/07/2019 18:44

i bloody love smoking, even tho i hide it from my family, i find it so relaxing, think it’s all the deep breaths. my only dirty little secret 🙃

FreeToRun · 22/07/2019 18:44

I used to smoke (before vaping existed) and by the time I finally quit for good I absolutely hated it and desperately wanted to stop. I found patches and the inhalator helped me. I hate that I used to smoke, but so happy I finally quit. It’s been almost 10years.

PositiveVibez · 22/07/2019 18:44

I only smoke when I have a drink. Husband is the same. So just at the weekend usually, in our back garden when dd is asleep.

We usually share a few cigarettes over the weekend and I enjoy it. Alcohol and cigarettes just seem to go so well together.

Never crave a fag through the week or smoke at all. So we can buy 20 and they will last a couple of weekends.

Mitebiteatnite · 22/07/2019 18:45

I don't smoke anymore as I have really severe Asthma. Ironically, it's got worse over the years since I stopped smoking, although of course there's no correlation between the two. But I loved smoking, genuinely loved it. On particularly stressful days, the ritual of making a tea and plopping myself on a chair in the garden for 5 minutes was bliss.

I do sometimes miss it. DH still smokes and he vapes too, which I hate. He only smokes a menthol one which does smell nice, but it's just the noise of it. It's infuriating when we're sat watching a film and he starts puffing on it, the crackling and popping of the coil Angry

Mabelface · 22/07/2019 18:49

I probably only enjoy around 3 or 4 of the 15 to 20 cigs I have a day. Quitting tomorrow, as I've surgery coming up and I want to give my foot the best chance of healing I can.

Daffodil2018 · 22/07/2019 18:53

I love smoking cigarettes although prefer menthols which are probably halfway to a vape Grin

But I gave up more than two years ago when I started TTC so they are just a fond memory now.

Pinktinker · 22/07/2019 18:54

I hate vaping as much as I hate smoking. I mean, I slightly prefer the stench of vaping to smoking but I find the humongous clouds emitted extremely obnoxious. I have literally seen some people disappear in a cloud of it, it looks ridiculous.

I smoked years ago before I had children, I greatly enjoyed it on a bar roof top with a G&T in my other hand. I do miss it sometimes but I don’t miss the smell, the sore chest or the coat!

Nautiloid · 22/07/2019 18:55

Yes, I love it.
I could murder one right now and it has utterly spoiled my evening. 😂

Pinktinker · 22/07/2019 18:55

Coat was meant to say cost of course. Thank you autocorrect.

My friend still smokes Marlboro reds (as I always used to) and the cost is absolutely eye watering now. They were £6.50 a pack when I started smoking years ago which was expensive at the time compared to other brands. Now they’re £11 Shock.

Jaffacakebeast · 22/07/2019 18:58

I love smoking!! Used to smoke 20/25 a day. “Quit” over 4 years ago. Went onto vape, just for the money and health. I still have a pack of cigs on birthday and Boxing Day, occasionally a cig if I’m out drinking

IhaveALooBrush · 22/07/2019 19:01

I bloody loved smoking. I loved it.
I've been smoke free for 2 months now, and wish I could reward myself with a fag.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 22/07/2019 19:02

I loved smoking. I've been quit for a few years now but I still want one at least 2-3 times a week and I miss it. It's bizarre because I was desperate to quit and I hated the fact i smoked; the fear of getting cancer overwhelmed me by the end. But I loved smoking and I still get a little pang when I see someone smoking, especially on a sunny day in a beer garden. I actually only know 1 smoker now, everyone else has quit.

And I hate vapes, I think those really black kind of gun looking things are just vile, and no one looks cool or sexy with one (because obviously smoking is cool and sexy, right?!)
Most people i know who vape use it far far more than they'd ever smoke.

Crustytoenail · 22/07/2019 19:06

Yes, as pp have said it's the 5 minutes and the time out combined with the nicotine that does it for me.
My friend 'quit' a few years ago and her vape thingy is like a dummy and never out of her gob. She puffs away on that far more than I smoke.
Only really smoke in the garden and on a break at work, don't like it in enclosed spaces myself and don't smoke when out for meals etc with a herd of non smokers. Don't drink hardly at all, Friday was the first time in about 2 years I drank alcohol, so no wine or gin o'clock for me like some, and I'm considerate to others so I carry on because I enjoy it really. Don't like vaping though, the sweet and sickly artificial clouds of whatever are everywhere and people get incredibly entitled when not allowed to cover people in it in enclosed spaces because 'its not smoking'.

Livebythecoast · 22/07/2019 19:07

It depends on the vape. I agree, some are ridiculous - reminds me of stars in their eyes - tonight Matthew, I'm gonna be....
But the switch pen is very subtle and I'd rather smell 'bubblegum' or 'blueberry ' than tobacco if I walk past someone.

GibbonLover · 22/07/2019 19:08

Vapist here, I swapped from real cigs (which I bloody well loved) just over a year ago. Best favour I ever did myself. Yes, I'm still addicted to nicotine, there's no question about that but I'm £50 pw better off. Plus, quite a few pubs round here allow vaping indoors.

I never bothered getting any fancy kit, I've just used a bog standard £20 vape pen, which doesn't make those huge clouds. Liquids and a coil cost around £5 pw.

YABU for getting so aggro with your friend and not just opening the window to let vapour out/fresh air in. YABVVU to suggest he goes back to the cigs. Just why not quit sound like the words of someone who's been sensible enough not to start smoking in the first place, it's never as easy as 'just quit'.

SimonJT · 22/07/2019 19:09

I absolutely loving smoking, it’s my second favourite thing. My son is in bed so in a few minutes I will be laid on my balcony with a vodka tonic and a marlboro red, perfection.

khaleesi71 · 22/07/2019 19:10

I quit regular smoking 9 years ago and struggled with it - but have now got to a point when I don't think about it all the time. I occasionally have one when I've had a drink but can't contemplate or afford to smoke regularly again. I run and use that to remind me why I shouldn't smoke. I have told DH, who hates smoking, that when I get to 75 - I will have a cigarette every day and probably with a glass of something. I'll have earned it by then. It's a great ritual - that moment with a drink and a freshly lit Marlboro in the sun!

ElspethFlashman · 22/07/2019 19:11

I smoked in my early 20s and absolutely loved it. But I gave up fairly early - about 25 - and its one of the best things I ever did.

Now I work in a Respiratory Dept. None of us smoke. You can't - we see far too much lung cancer in habitual or past heavy smokers. But one of my colleagues vapes - she smoked for 20 years and needs something in her hand for anxiety. She needs the ritual.

Our consultants would never recommend vaping. It's too new to know what it'll do. It could damage the lungs long term, we just don't know. But all would say its preferable to cigarettes at least as their decimation of the lungs has been proven.
