Holiday to Hurghada booked! Don't want to go now.....

I have booked a girly holiday with my daughter next month to Hurghada! The reason I picked this destination as it was affordable and has a huge water park which she we love.....I saw last night that British airways have cancelled flights to Cairo and i am now panicking about going! Am I just being a worry head? Sods law I only booked it on Thursday.........

If the Gov hasn't stopped flights to Hurghada then go and enjoy yourself. These holidays are affordable for a reason OP, the region has pockets of instability. If it's the Titanic Beach Club and waterpark is fab by all accounts, a friend has recently returned

It didn't bother me about the pockets of instability when I booked.......sods law it's just since last night I've been a proper worry head! It's not the titanic looked there aswell it's similar though

Hurghada is a long way from Cairo, if flights are still going there I shouldn't worry. You can check the foreign office guidance too. NB, if you don't go check your insurance, they'll usually only pay out if the foreign office marks it as unsafe.

Tell me it's jungle aqua park?! We've been going there for years and you will have a fab time,v safe,loads to do and super friendly People. Flights to Cairo have been on and off since the uprising so nothing to worry about there. We discovered hurghada when flights to sharm got cancelled and its miles from both sharm and Cairo. You'll have a great time

Sindbad club? I went with the DCs last year and it was fine, you probably wouldn’t want to go wandering around outside the resort too much but we felt completely safe there.

I wouldn't go to Egypt at the moment. It sounds unstable and it's cheap for a reason. I certainly wouldn't take a child there-just not worth it.

It's cheap because of posters like blue. Have been to Hurghada last x3 years just sr for fly &:flop holidays

If you don't want to go then don't! Go and ask you travel agent if you can change. It is unlikely that at this stage you will be able to but if the government changes their travel advice then your travel agent may accommodate you somewhere else. I think your travel insurance may kick in at some stage but not all insurance is covered for terrorist activity. It's early days - wait and see.

Just go. I've lived in Hurghada for 6 years and feel safer here than some places in UK. The problem is the media. If we listened to them, we wouldn't go anywhere. Enjoy your holiday.

I wouldn't go to Egypt

I went years ago and it was lovely, the people were fabulous.

Now friends tell me ther are armed guards on the buses too and from the hotels. People just don't leave the hotels unless on tours with more armed guards. It sounds awful to me.

I wouldn't be scared of an attack, the chances are probably lower than wandering round any U.K. city. I just couldn't relax with that level of security. I think I would just end up spending the whole time thinking how fucked up the world is.

This is why holidays to Egypt are cheap!

There's not much to do outside theh hotels anyway is there? That's probably why people don"t leave, amd they know this beforehand.

I've stayed in Taba Heights and we only left to go shopping in the evening sometimes on hotel shuttle bus, i still loved it.

Hurghada is safe, Cairo is bloody miles away. Would you cancel a trip to Manchester if they closed Heathrow? I doubt it

We fly tomorrow, although this year we are staying in Makadi Bay. I love Hurghada, when we are there we go out most nights - to Sheraton street or the Marina. There is lots to do, as much or as little as you want.

Honestly, I find train/bus travel much more risky - for instance, noone on a plane is going to suddenly start spraying large amounts of perfume around, or decide to let their pet loose in the cabin.

Lol at people going on about how they wouldn't go to Egypt as there's armed guards. Have you been to a London airport/train station recently - lots of police with machine guns standing round.

We went to Jungle Aqua last year and loved every second of it. The airport was safer and more thorough than any I have ever been in and we didn't have armed guards on our buses.

Ciaro is a 5 hour bus journey from hurgharda just to give some perception.

I would suggest calling your tour operator if you have doubts (I assume it's a package) they might be willing to switch it but you won't get the same standard of hotel for the money in Europe, Turkey is cheaper but has it's own issues.

If you're going to Hurgharda, chances are you're staying in a big AI hotel with lots to do and you don't need to leave, unless on an organised tour.

I really wouldn't worry, Cairo is hours away. Security at the airport and in the hotels is very tight. I went a few months ago on a diving holiday and we were collected from the airport and taken straight to the boat, which we were on for a week, diving in the red sea.

On the last day there was a few hours between getting off the boat and the flight home so they put us in a hotel for the day. To get into the hotel all our luggage went through an X-ray machine and we had to go through a metal detector arch. There was also quite a lot of security around the hotels.

When we went back to the airport, we had to pass through several check points on the outskirts of the airport and to get into the building, where there were many more security checks and X-ray machines than European airports.

Think back - yes there has been a few attacks on Hurgarda hotels over the years, but security has increased massively since then, and in that time thousands, if not millions of people have had a safe holiday there. The chances of something happening to you is so small, it's really not worth worrying about.

Cairo is a very different beast to Hurghada, it took 8 hours on a train to get there. It's much quieter and there's less political movement/frustration.
The security measures around tourist areas are robust, the Egyptians are DESPERATE to keep their tourist industry going. They've lost so many from the Sinai peninsula (Sharm) that they don't want that to happen all over.
That being said, I've sat through quite a few security briefings about Daesh in my time and Daesh Sinai are very active and very dangerous.
So on balance, the area you're going to is fine. But people are right to be wary of Egypt.

Personally I never trust anyone who LOLs at anything, I prefer people who understand that different people have different views rather than laugh at them.

I wouldn't feel comfortable on holiday with armed guards around.

We went at half term to serenity fun city and I have to say felt very safe. Cars cannot pass the main security gate unless you show your check in details.

When leaving the hotel our we had to give car reg of our taxi to reception who passed it onto security in order to let the taxi in. The reputable taxi firms send car and driver details to you through WhatsApp so felt very safe. Trip advisor forum was great for info.
