“That one isn’t obviously. But then you wouldn’t choose one that disproved your point, would you?“
Sorry? I’m not sure how any image would have anything to do with my point. Which is tht the sexualisation Ns exploitation of young people is wrong, and that we don’t achieve equality by extending the crap that society heaps in women to men.

“I can’t see the sexualisation but I guess if you want to, you can see anything you want.”

Blimey. You don’t see sexualisation in that image???

anothernotherone · 18/07/2019 11:39

Overly sexualised images of 17 year olds are disturbing if you're old enough to be the mother of a 17 year old. As others say this is true of 17 year old girls or boys, but were less used to boys being overly sexualised in mainstream media.

If something is unsavoury and exploitative for girls it doesn't become fine if done to boys too.

Marc Bolan was in his early 20s in the glam rock phase not 17, and crucially he was famous as a talented musician not solely for his physical appearance and relationship to a celebrity.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 18/07/2019 11:39

Was Marc Bolan 17 in that photograph? Was he pouting with his mouth open?

I grew up with the New Romantics in pop but they were adults. Adam Ant was in his late 20’s when Prince Charming came out.

We are talking about children pouting for a camera.

EmeraldShamrock · 18/07/2019 11:40

He will get a huge trans fan group. I find it odd, though I found the little boys been dressed as Elsa phase odd too. I think gender neutral attitudes to clothes and toys got pushed to far.

CheshireChat · 18/07/2019 11:40

I'm not a fan of the styling, but don't mind effeminate men, far prefer this photoshoot of Ezra Miller though.

Alsohuman · 18/07/2019 11:41

He isn’t a child. He’s old enough to legally have sex.

BertrandRussell · 18/07/2019 11:41

If you think this thread is about effeminate men you’re missing the point.

shockthemonkey · 18/07/2019 11:41

Is he not able to close his mouth?

NoTheresa · 18/07/2019 11:42

Totally strange. Even before this, though, some of the photographs of Hurley with her son have made me cringe.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 18/07/2019 11:44

He is 17 he can’t legally order a pint or vote in a General Election.

Alsohuman · 18/07/2019 11:47

He will be able to in nine months. He’s not a child. He’s got his career off to a start that will get him a long way.

anothernotherone · 18/07/2019 11:48

Alsohuman what's the minimum age of legal consent to sex got to do with it, if you claim, unconvincingly, not to think the photos are sexualised?

In the UK, and in fact also according to the UN convention on the rights of child, children are under 18s.

He can't buy alcohol or vote...

CheshireChat · 18/07/2019 11:49

It's obviously over sexualised and I know that's what most people have objected to (and rightly so), however there's a few posters complaining he looks too feminine.

Whosorrynow · 18/07/2019 11:51

It's as if the son has been fashioned into an homage of his mother

Alsohuman · 18/07/2019 11:51

The legal age for having sex is pretty damned relevant if you’re objecting to what you perceive as sexualised pictures, I’d have thought.

He is a child now

In nine months he will be an adult

anothernotherone · 18/07/2019 11:53

Alsohuman you're trying to argue from both sides there aren't you?

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 18/07/2019 11:53

www.gq-magazine.co.uk/article/fashion-metoo

The fashion industry can be incredibly exploitative. There are serious question marks hanging over some well known photographers.

And yet we are asked to treat a photograph of a pouting 17 year old as an appropriate fashion statement?

bee222 · 18/07/2019 11:53

I think you are all reading way too much into this.

Alsohuman · 18/07/2019 11:55

No, I’m not trying to argue from both sides. I’m applying logic.

anothernotherone · 18/07/2019 11:55

Alsohuman are you saying that sexualised pictures of 16 and 17 year olds are completely fine and acceptable because the age of consent is 16?

Deadringer · 18/07/2019 11:57

I know it's not possible (and off point) but I think he looks weirdly like Hugh Grant.
