They really are astonishing pictures, part of an ad campaign. He looks just like mum. I'm not keen. Please Google for ref, can't do link.

I have the same feeling toward this as Jayden Smith modelling a few years ago for Louis Vuitton. Confused. Hoping that these young men are allowed to be themselves.

Liz seems to be very smothering, rather like a sibling or friend than a mother. Maybe it’s to compensate for his father. When this happens it can be very detrimental for the child.

What is the word for hard to tell if man or woman in this instance

I used androgynous but thinking about it probably not the right word

It’s only the open mouth part that is a bit over done for me but not sure why he does it, the hair is a big blow out for sure but why not

“It’s only the open mouth part that is a bit over done for me but not sure why he does it”

Because he is portraying a female stereotype.

Welltroddenpath · 18/07/2019 10:51

He looks very young in the photos. Like a 13 year old who should be covered in zits. He’s a bit too pretty to be true.

I don’t like the ad. I bet there are a lot of young teens out there with acne that will think they are freaks.

Apart from that he’s very, very pretty. I hope my 15 year old isn’t holding himself to this level of looks and thinking its normal to be so flawless

MarshaBradyo · 18/07/2019 10:52

Bertrand yes of course

ohcanada · 18/07/2019 10:53

Do some research on the makeup artist whose campaign this is and you'll see this is a complete statement, and not just some vacuous image. He's a stunning guy, and if you frequently read high fashion editorials this wouldn't shock you at all!

@NottonightJosepheen Quite. There is an awful lot of fingers in ears “ lalalalalalal I can’t hear you” happening on this thread.

We won’t reach equality by pushing. the shitty stuff that society does to girls onto boys as well!

MarshaBradyo · 18/07/2019 11:03

Yes Josepheen that’s what I was wondering how much was direction or him over doing something or meaning to do it. I didn’t post because it was just a musing really

Androgynous - partly male and partly female in appearance; of indeterminate sex.

Maybe it is right we’ve just become used to it being applied to other looks

LovesHisMummyReally · 18/07/2019 11:09

errrrm - this all sounds a lot like trans bashing ladies

cavalier · 18/07/2019 11:18

He’s young and gorgeous .... good luck to him .. life is too short to worry about what others think

DarlingNikita · 18/07/2019 11:19

The reason I think it made me feel creepy is because we're so used to seeing women portrayed this way that it feels odd to have it done by a man (boy!) because it highlights the gross oversexualisation of women in the media.

Absolutely this. It is always illuminating and often shocking when you flip something that's applied to one group and apply it to another.

“errrrm - this all sounds a lot like trans bashing ladies“

In what way, precisely?

Maybe a quick google of images of Marc Bolan might be illuminating. He’s been dead for over 40 years so this is hardly new.

Is Damian trans? How does feeling uncomfortable about sexualised images of a teenage boy conflate to transphobia?

ohcanada · 18/07/2019 11:28

Marc Bolan indeed - the images are quite similar really!

BertrandRussell · 18/07/2019 11:29

And why are images of Marc Bolan, who has been dead for 40 years remotely relevant to the sexualization and exploitation of young people today?

Alsohuman · 18/07/2019 11:31

That one isn’t obviously. But then you wouldn’t choose one that disproved your point, would you?

MarshaBradyo · 18/07/2019 11:32

That Bolan pose isn’t similar

In fact interesting to see how it’s moved on since then

CSIblonde · 18/07/2019 11:32

He is beautiful, but is very 80's glamour model, pouty page 3 style poses: which were rather funny. A great pair of boobs with all the lip gloss & he'd be page 3 'tastic.

Alsohuman · 18/07/2019 11:34

Ffs, he hasn’t been exploited. He’s been paid, I imagine handsomely, for his part in the campaign and massive publicity which will raise his profile and further his career. Personally, I can’t see the sexualisation but I guess if you want to, you can see anything you want.
