Toothache but nothing wrong with my teeth!

Went to dentist today. Had x-rays, she spent ages looking at my teeth and gums. I've got hideous toothache. I KNOW which tooth it is coming from because it's related to me eating hot or cold food and when I touch it it hurts. She said my teeth are great. She can't see anything wrong so can't treat. Said I just have to hope it settles down.

Wtf do I do? I'm in pain but can't do anything about it.

Oil of cloves?

captainprincess · 17/07/2019 21:11

Goodness that sounds awful, poor you. I personally would be getting a second opinion.
Hope it gets better soon.

Knittedfairies · 17/07/2019 21:13

Try rubbing some toothpaste for sensitive teeth on the offending molar.

Nemesia1264 · 17/07/2019 21:13

What did the dentist suggest the diagnosis was, if not teeth-related?

sheshootssheimplores · 17/07/2019 21:14

Sinuses?

AvengerDanvers95 · 17/07/2019 21:15

Sinuses. Try a decongestant.

AdoraBell · 17/07/2019 21:16

I had super painful tooth once, turned out that I had food trapped despite flossing. It took over a week to dislodge the offending scrap.

MustShowDH · 17/07/2019 21:17

Sinuses?
My husband gets horrendous toothache when his are playing up. Massaging from bridge of nose out to cheekbones helps. It took a long time and several dentist appointments to work out what it was. He would have sworn blind it was his teeth. Apparently its to do with where swelling presses onto nerves or some such!
Do you get hay fever?

AmIRightOrAMeringue · 17/07/2019 21:17

Last time I had that it was a sinus infection. It felt like I'd been punched in the jaw and I lost 3 lbs in a week as i couldn't eat. I did feel like total shit and have bright green slime pouring from my nose though but the dentist also said he could see some inflammation near the nerve or something

cross posts!

Jamsangwich · 17/07/2019 21:18

I had this and same as you, had dental problems ruled out by x-rays and a full check etc. In my case it turned out to be a recurring sinus infection. It literally floored me when I ate or drank anything hot or cold, just on one side, and I could have told you exactly which tooth the pain was shooting out of, but as soon as the sinus infection was treated, it all went away.

I didn't need antibiotics, just over the counter remedies. Sinutab, I think.

Jamsangwich · 17/07/2019 21:18

another cross post! Great minds think alike

See another dentist

Evidencebased · 17/07/2019 21:20

Sensodyne. Brush with it, then rub on sensitive area and leave it on. Several times a day.

suze108 · 17/07/2019 21:23

trigeminal neuralgia?

CruCru · 17/07/2019 21:24

Do you actually have earache? I find the pain is very similar.

Senoritaforever · 17/07/2019 21:24

I had this for months until the dentist eventually gave me antibiotics which worked and I never had the pain again.

RB68 · 17/07/2019 21:29

Can be sinus or earache - but also the tooth may be cracked but undetectable - try some rubbing sensodyne or similar toothpaste on it directly and see if it settles. I have this with my front teeth that were hit directly with an airbag some years back - I am pretty sure they are cracked but holding up so have to use sensodyne reguarly and keep using

tealandteal · 17/07/2019 21:29

Just another voice for sinus infection, my dentist said it is very like dental pain.

AvengerDanvers95 · 17/07/2019 21:37

I went to the dentist after having DC2, fully convinced that the pregnancy and breastfeeding had ruined my teeth and they would all have to go, so I was very surprised when she said "your teeth are fine, have you had a cold lately?"

namechangedtohelpyou · 18/07/2019 15:38

My whole right face hurts today. My son shouted from under my chin and it made the pain worse. It's so sensitive. I don't know what to do. Don't think it's my sinuses. It's my bottom tooth that hurts and my glands are now up a bit and tender. At a loss :(

Omg op im going through the same thing, 2.5 years later im on the verge of root canal treatment costing 1k! Im terrified of the dentist but always go im a a loss. I've asked to be referred to the dental hospital. My dentist is sick of me as I am of him but living like this is making me suicidal.

I wish I had the answer!

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 18/07/2019 15:55

I had similar just before we went away on holiday earlier in the year. Turned out to be a sinus infection for me but I had no other symptoms just what I thought was toothache.

My dentist had a good look in my mouth and then told me to try over the counter sinus pills. Much to my surprise it worked.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 18/07/2019 15:56

I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a sinus thing. I had something similar last summer and I knew it couldn’t be toothache because it was on both sides of my mouth in exactly the same place. Honestly, it just so much I wanted to be able to get away from my own face! It was either sinuses or nerves (I have nerve damage from an accident) and it settled down after a few weeks.

namechangedtohelpyou · 18/07/2019 15:57

Would sinus pain cause pain in lower teeth though? Which us excruciating with hot or cold food?
