To ask why people feel the need to shop in their gym clothes?

I'm sure it has been asked before but as the title says...why do people feel the need to walk around shops in their sweaty gym clothes?

Do so many people not have time to shower and change after a workout but then manage to find the time to walk around shops? Are they the same people who like to take selfies in gyms to post on social media?

I suppose each to their own and at least gym clothes are better than pyjamas!

I don't get this phrase "Why do people feel the need to..." see also "There's just no need for it", do you only do things you are compelled to do? What about doing things that you want to do? Is it a generation thing, I swear I've never heard anybody my age say it Confused

WhenOneFacePalmDoesntCutIt · 17/07/2019 19:20

it only means "I can't stand people who..." but I don't want to be that upfront about it.

Most of the school mums wear gym gear for school run also which I don't get why

same here, but why wouldn't they as they are going to the gym!
And sometimes can't be bothered to get changed for school pick up - things like yoga or swimming don't make you that sweaty.

Grumpbum123 · 17/07/2019 19:25

I go to drop off/ pick up/ shopping and therapy in my riding gear complete with boots and chaps because it makes my life easier

sockatoe · 17/07/2019 19:30

I much prefer shopping amongst the folk on the way home from the gym who are freshly sweaty than many of the habitual soap dodgers who also stink of stale fags I often encounter.

Scientists are now saying people are different form each other...

AlaskanOilBaron · 17/07/2019 19:33

Occasionally I stop and pick something up on the way home from the gym. That's the long and the short of it for me.

Either they're on their way to the gym, or they should hang their heads in shame. Wink

Because it’s a free country and I can..so there!!

ladyvimes · 17/07/2019 19:36

I do my weekly shop on a Monday night after a really tough Zumba class. I get really sweaty but I don’t smell! I then shower and get into my pjs at home! Can’t really see how it affects anyone.

Bloomburger · 17/07/2019 19:36

Because I'm a PT and I'll nip to the shop in between clients and sometimes after I've worked out too.

Sashkin · 17/07/2019 19:36

Oh I quite agree, OP, I never leave the house without my twinset, pearls and white gloves. Standards, ladies, standards!

I saw somebody in Waitrose last week in jeans! Was she on her way to a rodeo? I think not! There’s simply no excuse for such slovenliness.

You win the thread. Wink

I have to dress up for my job so on my day off I want to be comfortable when I’m running errands etc.

I quite enjoy dressing up, but I also love wearing athleisure. I’m glad we live in a society with options.

MorganKitten · 17/07/2019 19:55

My gym is 10mins from my house, I like my shower more than the gym ones, my gym is next to the supermarket so I’ll run in if I need to then go home.
Why does it bother you so much?

starzig · 17/07/2019 20:07

People have to shop OP. If you have done a 10hr shift, spent 2hr at gym it's getting to 10pm, you have had no dinner and you need to get shopping in, and the supermarket is on the way home you are hardly going to nip home for a shower fresh clothes and do your make up before going to a supermarket.

swingofthings · 17/07/2019 20:09

Oh dear I'm one of them! The reason is I do psrkrun on Saturday mornings and Tesco is on the way. Pass 10am and traffic is horrendous, so don't want to go home, shower, and then be stuck for 1/2 hour to get back there. I shop on Saturday morning because that's what suit with our lifestyle (working FT, busy weekends).

I never considered I was offending anyone, not sure why it is so.

swingofthings · 17/07/2019 20:11

@Sashkin, your post is epic!

ghostyslovesheets · 17/07/2019 20:13

what is it with this spate of current posters posting blandy goady threads and never coming back?

anyway I do it because it's on my way home - I have been at work - my work clothes have been stuffed in a locker and I don't really want to put them on again - I don't shower at the gym - often because I might be going for a run later so it's pointless - and I don't understand why it's an issue.

wifesupremacist · 17/07/2019 20:16

because they want to. next

HariboLectar · 17/07/2019 20:17

Well it's probably better for the environment than me driving home to shower & change, then driving back to the supermarket I'd just been parked at to go shopping. I'm pretty sure I don't stink too much, it's fresh sweat so shouldn't smell that bad.

EdWinchester · 17/07/2019 20:19

I do this all the time.

Not noticeably sweaty, but my face might be still red.

MitziK · 17/07/2019 20:26

Well, I wear my gym gear for housework because it's comfortable and cool - if I need some more washing up liquid, I'm hardly going to get changed, pop round the corner, come back and change into the first set again.

And at my new job, they have a onsite gym but the showers leave something to be desired, so I will be leaving work in my kit, getting off the bus outside the supermarket, getting anything we need if DP hasn't got in from work yet, and then going home and showering. It would be pointless to get off the bus, walk past the front door of the supermarket, go home, get showered, get changed and then go back out again - or wait for DP to get in and send him back out for stuff I'm perfectly capable of getting on the way home.

But other than that - because I want to.
