To ask why people feel the need to shop in their gym clothes?

I'm sure it has been asked before but as the title says...why do people feel the need to walk around shops in their sweaty gym clothes?

Do so many people not have time to shower and change after a workout but then manage to find the time to walk around shops? Are they the same people who like to take selfies in gyms to post on social media?

I suppose each to their own and at least gym clothes are better than pyjamas!

I’ve definitely seen/smelt more offensive attire in the supermarket. I am sure they don’t drip sweat on the food..

megletthesecond · 17/07/2019 17:47

I also tag the supermarket onto the end of a run. Take card and bags for life in my running rucksack then buy too many biscuits to eat afterwards Grin.

LaVieilleHarpie · 17/07/2019 17:49

Cause I have the legs and arse of a goddess and my workout clothes show them off.

JellyfishAndShells · 17/07/2019 17:50

Well I usually do a cool down at the end of a gym session or a circuits class, it’s air conditioned in there , I have a drink after, wash my hands and splash my face , so by time I get there to the supermarket, on the way home, I am not sweaty. The showers are not great at my gym and I would rather do it at home when I can relax afterwards.

Not everything is for show and effect, OP.

BackforGood · 17/07/2019 17:51

Not sure what there is "to get" or "not get" - it's pretty obvious that whilst people are out they pop in to a shop to pick something up. If they happen to be on way to, or home from the gym then they will be wearing gym clothes. If they happen to be on way to, or home from work, they will be wearing work clothes.

Really not that tricky to grasp.

mum11970 · 17/07/2019 17:53

If I need to go shopping after a workout I’ll go in my gym clothes, sweaty or not. The gym showers are grim and I sometimes change where I run so not necessarily near to home. I do what’s convenient for me, not strangers I may pass for a second in a shop.

Likethebattle · 17/07/2019 17:53

There was a guy in our local Morrison’s who was wearing running gear and was sweaty but also he was stinking of BO, clean gym wear is fine.

Benes · 17/07/2019 17:54

What is there to 'get'? It's pretty obvious really.

Sarahandco · 17/07/2019 17:54

If I went to the gym and worked out I definitely want everyone to know!

LetThePotatoRest · 17/07/2019 17:56

Practicality. I don’t like using the showers at the gym unless I have to, say if I’m going to work straight after. The shop is on the way home so I do the two things in the same trip. Never thought anyone noticed or cared!

Myfoolishboatisleaning · 17/07/2019 17:58

My pyjamas look like yoga pants. I rarely ever get dressed.

Duchessgummybuns · 17/07/2019 17:58

I’m actually amazed that people are able to go shopping after a run or whatever, sweat literally drips off me after a 20 minute jog and I’m not fit to be seen 🙈 but that’s me and I’m a gross sweater

Eaudear · 17/07/2019 18:01

This thread really needs a 'why the fuck you care?' award.

Literally couldn't muster up even the tiniest shits about this. And I'm one who normally understands that AIBU wouldn't exist without people caring about stuff they shouldn't!

Chouetted · 17/07/2019 18:01

Threads like these make me feel tempted to go shopping in a panda suit, just to see if I can spawn a thread moaning about it being inappropriate attire for Tescos.

Unfortunately I don't own a panda suit, so that'll have to remain a daydream.

MikeUniformMike · 17/07/2019 18:02

Maybe their pyjamas are in the wash.

MrsGrannyWeatherwax · 17/07/2019 18:03

Because I barely have time to go running / gym and swing in to collect milk before collecting baby

I don’t like going anywhere sweaty but it’s that or never work out

aliceelizaloves · 17/07/2019 18:07

Haha this is funny because I just saw a friend at the shops in her gym gear and I asked her if she was going for a run as I know she is a runner. She said no, she just throws it on in the morning on the off chance she might get an opportunity to run at some point. I would never have thought of doing this but now want to go and buy some, it looks so comfy! Always see people out and about in my town in it, with full makeup and perfect hair so doesn't look like they've been working out. It must just be very fashionable.

SmallHope · 17/07/2019 18:07

Once a week I drive to a lovely park with a lake to run 10k and I pop into the supermarket on my way home to get fruit cheesecake - there's no way I could shower or change beforehand and I'd rather not get home, shower, change and then go back out again.

Hopefully I don't smell!! Blush

gamerchick · 17/07/2019 18:09

Some gym clothes are super comfortable and people will wear them as every day wear. It doesn't mean they've been to the gym.

Gin96 · 17/07/2019 18:11

Ha ha I can do one better and go shopping in my stinky equestrian wear, I don’t care what anyone thinks 😂

Lighteninginabottle27 · 17/07/2019 18:11

Because I live in a rural village and going to the supermarket on my way
home suits me. I don't have time or inclination to shower at the gym. I can use my own nice shower at home. I need to be back for the kids coming in.

dudsville · 17/07/2019 18:12

I'm guessing they do it to annoy you op, what other possible reason could there be?!

Chouetted · 17/07/2019 18:12

Actually there's something curious about this. Is it only sweaty gym clothes that offend?

If I get off the train/tube wearing "normal" clothes but covered in sweat (isn't summer wonderful?), do you require me to go home again and shower before I nip into a supermarket?

What a humongeous waste of time just so you don't briefly impose on a stranger by allowing them to see you looking mildly damp.

AntHilda · 17/07/2019 18:15

I have a baby so it is a time thing for me. I get what I need and get out as fast as I can, it is embarrassing but I would have to double back on myself otherwise.

EvaHarknessRose · 17/07/2019 18:16

If you want to be active you have to make it fit in with other things you do?
