Who REALLY separates their undies from towels in the wash Hmm am I and everyone I know grubby ?! I feel this is a waste of water, electricity, time and money!

(Video is Lynsey on This Morning telling us we should make sure our bras are clipped together and separate them from towels before we wash) I wanna know how she has the time.

Rachel you know that is known as Virtue Signalling!

ThighsRelief · 17/07/2019 13:58

People would like to have a life but Big Pharma are threatening to kill them if they don't talk about laundry.

OoohRhubarbLetsGo · 17/07/2019 14:09

I have a separate laundry basket for tea towels/ dishcloths/ aprons etc, which is downstairs in the utility room - other laundry basket is upstairs, where we take clothes off.

Dishcloths etc don’t get washed with pants, because the dishcloth wash goes on at 90 (this doubles up as the maintenance cycle for the machine) and pants would be wrecked at 90, so they go in with a 40 or 60 clothing wash .

LazyLemur · 17/07/2019 14:10

Fuck sake. I wash my fanny and my face in the same bath water (shower is broken). Should I separate them up? Maybe alternate days? Nope.

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 17/07/2019 14:10

Towels do get washed separately but only because we have enough to make up a full load & the towels don't get fabric softener whereas clothes/bedding do.

In the past when I had fewer things to wash & was too skint to buy fabric conditioner they went in the same wash.

HairyDogsInUnusualPlaces · 17/07/2019 14:13

LazyLemur, you could take your tea towels into the bath with you and give them a wash at the same time.

DanglyWhoreTassels · 17/07/2019 14:15

Oh no! I've just thought! What if any of my poo crumbs touch my other poo crumbs? Shock

SeasideSoul · 17/07/2019 14:29

I have been known to take my tights into the shower with me, give them a rinse whilst my conditioner is on and then wear the next day.

littlemeitslyn · 17/07/2019 14:30

As a singleton it all goes in together x

SlocombePooter · 17/07/2019 14:35

seaside good time-management!

Jamhandprints · 17/07/2019 14:47

I don't understand the problem? Do the knickers contaminate the T towels, or the T towels contaminate the pants? I would hope my pants are cleaner than a used T towel! Suppose it depends how dirty your butt is.

myusernameisnotmyusername · 17/07/2019 15:32

I separate them but that's because I wash all towels together regardless of what sort of towel on a 60c wash.

WilyMinx · 17/07/2019 15:33

I separate my washing into these categories:

  • bed sheets
  • towels
  • pyjamas/loungewear/undies
  • outdoor clothes/socks (I wash mine and my son's separately from my husband's as he sweats loads)
  • whites (clothing only)

We have a very small washing machine so we have to do smaller loads anyway.

YoThePussy · 17/07/2019 15:48

MNers have such interesting clothing, aprons, loungewear, I don’t know. Here am I in the same shaggy t-shirts and leggings winter and summer all washed in a mass with everything else so it reaches a uniform grey. Sometimes I get quite bewildered and try and force my bum into a greying oven glove thinking it is a pair of knickers.

CanYouHelpFindThis · 17/07/2019 16:17

I wash towels / t-towels , flannels and clothes separate. But only when i have enough of everything for a load....

CanYouHelpFindThis · 17/07/2019 16:18

I wash bedding separate as well....

Pj's and clothes are separate as well
To be honest, iv never given much thought to it. As long as there is enough to make a load, if not, it just waits in the laundry room for awhile

LazyLemur · 17/07/2019 16:23

Grin Nah the spin cycle in the bath is a bit shit.
I do take my fancy handwash knickers in there though for a scrub with the nice shower gel 🤷🏽‍♀️

Blue565 · 17/07/2019 16:27

wtf? people actually separate stuff like that?...

Nextphonewontbesamsung · 17/07/2019 16:38

I don't wash tea towels and dishcloths in with underwear. They go in a sixty degree wash with table cloths, bedding and other towels. It takes me precisely zero mental or physical effort to achieve this and I'm not a clean freak by any stretch of the imagination.

ravenshope · 17/07/2019 17:42

So, my question is, if you live alone, how many of each item that should be separated , do you have to own in order to get a full load of each?
Also, what about people who use the launderette?

tomcatspray · 17/07/2019 17:46

@HAIRY DOGS - brilliant! Can't be to careful Grin

tomcatspray · 17/07/2019 17:47

Too not to

Snowy111 · 17/07/2019 21:20

Everything in my house goes on at 40, because I use bio washing liquid and it’s not as effective at higher temps.

I don’t see the point of trying to eliminate bacteria from everything when as soon as YOU use it it will get covered in bacteria anyway cos YOU are full of bacteria. Are you going to put yourself on a 60 degree wash?Hmm

ThighsRelief · 17/07/2019 21:42

I AM THIGH

I AM THE EMPEROR

hibbledibble · 17/07/2019 21:45

I wash my clothes with my cloth nappies. No point having a half empty machine.

I have survived so far!
