To still be upset about SIL giving away result of tennis final

I can’t work out if I’m blowing this up out of all proportion. Was out this afternoon and unable to watch final of men’s singles at Wimbledon. I recorded it to watch this evening. SIL is big tennis fan and my husband messaged his sister asking her not to send any spoilers as we weren’t watching live. She is a huge Federer fan and sent us a message at approx 7.15pm with lots of sad faces and told us he’d lost. We’re not going to watch recording because to be honest what’s the bloody point. Still feeling very upset with her.

YABVU not to watch the match anyway. It was AMAZING and I promise you, there would be times you would be on the edge of your seat biting your nails even knowing the final outcome.

In general I think people get a bit obsessive about spoilers, but it was very unkind of her to send an unnecessary text when you had specifically asked her not to.

Runkle · 14/07/2019 21:40

OK she didn't need to text but you should've switched your phones off. If you were that into it why would you be reading any messages?

Muddlingalongalone · 14/07/2019 21:40

Watch it anyway - but yanbu if it was deliberate.
I have to admit I did this to my mum last week with the football though. Read her msg wrong & Thought she asked me for updates because she was out (we do this quite often) when in fact she said no score updates pls.

Parky04 · 14/07/2019 21:44

YABU. Easily avoided by having your phones turned off!

Redcrayons · 14/07/2019 21:45

its a bit of a dick move if she knew were going to watch later.

You should still watch it though, it's a great match.

Redshoesandtheblues · 14/07/2019 21:45

I get your pain. But , as pp said, still worth watching if you love tennis.
This was a truly great final and both were worthy of the hype.
Id watch it again, if I had the time.

Dont let sil spoil what is must see viewing!!

FilledSoda · 14/07/2019 21:47

Why on earth did she do that ?

Cheeserton · 14/07/2019 21:47

Hardly the end of the world really.

OneWorld · 14/07/2019 22:05

Did she message you or her brother?

DaphneFanshaw · 14/07/2019 22:10

Yanbu. You shouldn’t have to switch your phone off.
I would be pissed of that your sil told you the result despite being asked not to.
If it was an accident or you accidentally found something on line then it would be different but to do that deliberately is a bit cunty.

Twigletgirl27 · 14/07/2019 22:11

She messaged my husband, her brother. He had sent original message asking for no updates.

DaphneFanshaw · 14/07/2019 22:13

Ah tbh, I would be slightly peeved at your DH too as he could have easily not said anything to you about it. Why did he tell you ?

NancyJoan · 14/07/2019 22:14

If you want to prevent this sort of thing, it’s your responsibility to avoid any news by keeping the radio off etc.

Twigletgirl27 · 14/07/2019 22:15

@DaphneFanshaw I could completely accept finding result accidentally but we’d gone out of our way not to! She claimed not to have seen original message. I know I’ve probably blown it out of proportion but I feel a bit cheated of that edge of the seat feeling watching an epic match. Guess I’ll get over it!

DaphneFanshaw · 14/07/2019 22:17

Ah, it could just be a genuine mistake then. These things do happen.
Like you say, you will get over it. Wine

Usingmyindoorvoice · 14/07/2019 22:17

So who was playing and who won?

cccameron · 14/07/2019 22:18

What a complete and utter bitch

Swellerellamoo · 14/07/2019 22:19

I'd be fucking livid and feel your pain.

cccameron · 14/07/2019 22:19

Please do watch it though, it's one of the best matches you're likely to see

Cheeserton · 14/07/2019 22:20

Complete and utter bitch??

Wow. Firstly it's a bloody game of tennis. Secondly, why assume it was to spite everyone??

cccameron · 14/07/2019 22:22

Obviously not a sports fan Cheeserton

LL83 · 14/07/2019 22:22

Was pretty rubbish if it was deliberate, but unless she is known for this sort of thing I would give they benefit of the doubt.

TurnOffTheTv · 14/07/2019 22:23

Why did he tell you? What did he say to her, did she apologise?

cccameron · 14/07/2019 22:26

I'd be annoyed at DH for telling you as well. She spoiled it for him but he could have let you enjoy it!

Morgan12 · 14/07/2019 22:26

It's so weird that she would send spoilers when specifically asked not to. Theres no way she didn't see the message.
