Having dinner earlier at a restaurant with salad bar. Observed a perhaps 8 year old scooping up pasta with tongs, scraping excess off with fingers, licking fingers, more scraping, licking tongs.

Please supervise your children.

Ugh , did you say anything to the parents or staff?

boptanana · 13/07/2019 22:35

I watched the same thing at the pick and mix display the other day Envy

BellyAching19 · 13/07/2019 22:37

This is the reason I’d never eat food that had been left vulnerable to grubby hand kids. Vile.

FairyFestival · 13/07/2019 22:39

Yes, notified waitress who removed salad and tongs. Luckily sitting next to salad bar.

YANBU, I witnessed a child at a farmhouse carvery earlier lick a spoon and put it back.

FairyFestival · 13/07/2019 22:42

I stuck to the greenery, the child appeared to avoid them.

I was once on a secondary school sports tour.

I stood behind a boy who picked up a sausage, put it right under his nostrils touching his nose and had a bit sniff and then PUT IT BACK!!
He was shocked that I was upset and removed it!!

RubberTreePlant · 13/07/2019 23:11

Please supervise your children.

Who are you talking to? Confused

We aren't all the parents of the salad bar ruffians.

MysweetAudrina · 13/07/2019 23:18

The salad bar is the one place I can safely say I don't need to supervise my children.

SolsticeBabyMaybe · 13/07/2019 23:21

Grimmm

FairyFestival · 13/07/2019 23:22

Okay Rubber I guess I’m talking to those who don’t supervise their children Hmm

Hasn't there been some statistic to say there's 57 different types of wee found in food at salad bars?

They're grim, but it's not because of other people's children.

It's adults men who don't wash their hands.

Cherrysoup · 13/07/2019 23:58

Sneeze muffins! My DH has put me off any kind of open help yourself or display food forever. He reminds me of all the people breathing on or sneezing/coughing on displayed food. The worst thing I’ve seen is kids sticking their hands in the chocolate fountain at the massive buffet place I once went to. Horrific.

sweeneytoddsrazor · 14/07/2019 00:09

Ha we were at an event once where there was a chocolate fountain and my daughter who was about 7 or 8 managed to end up bearing a striking resemblance to Dawn French in the Vicar of Dibley when she has a chocolate fountain. It was only a small chocolate fountain and she did have her fruit on cocktail sticks so didn't put her hands in it but the mess Blush

MauisHouseOnMaui · 14/07/2019 01:12

My DS once stuck his hand in the chocolate fountain at a massive buffet place, pretty much up to his elbow Blush

He is autistic and not great at understanding/processing instructions. He'd never seen a chocolate fountain before and asked what to do so I showed him how to put marshmallows and fruit onto a skewer and then I told him to put it in the fountain. Trouble was I didn't say how far or that he had to pull it out again. I helped other DS fill his ice cream cone and turned back around to find him standing there, arm under the chocolate waterfall part of the fountain, looking confused "what do I do next?". I told a member of staff because I thought they might need to drain it or something, she just shrugged and said it happens all the time.

He did enjoy his marshmallows and fruit once I got him cleaned up. He also enjoyed dramatically telling DH that "mum nearly let me DROWN in the chocolate fountain!"

Koalablue · 14/07/2019 02:17

Sweeneytoddsrazor
My Dd did the same thing at a family wedding when the same age. Chocolate was all over her face and down her best dress.Grin
I avoid buffets because people have no issue sneezing and coughing over the food.

AmeriAnn · 14/07/2019 03:20
Hmm
YoThePussy · 14/07/2019 04:09

How about the delightful child seen in a cafe picking out sugar lumps from the bowl, sucking them and then putting them back.

Signhereplease · 14/07/2019 04:13

Restaurant Grin

joystir59 · 14/07/2019 04:43

Germs are good for you aren't they? Don't they boost our immune systems? So I would have thought salad + germs = win win.

EnormousDormouse · 14/07/2019 04:48

I raise you a child grabbing a loose carrot in my local supermarket and chewing on it. His mum saw, grabbed it off him and threw it back in with the rest!

BenWillbondsPants · 14/07/2019 04:59

I hate these bloody salad bars, they're grim. So many people snottering over everything (yes I know I'm exaggerating). It's like eating off the pavement. Probably worse. 😂

speakout · 14/07/2019 05:17

YABU eating at a restaurant with a salad bar.
Grim things.

FuriousVexation · 14/07/2019 05:22

I've never seen this but now I'm questioning my every appearance at the Pizza Hut buffet . Damn.

bouncydog · 14/07/2019 05:37

I’ve also witnessed grown men double dipping at Boardroom lunches 🤮
