To ask where we should move to in Leicestershire (or nearby?)

After a crappy few months I've realised how little support I have nearby so I'd like to move closer to where my family are in Leicestershire sometime in the next couple of years.

Must haves -
A town/village with good transport links as I don't drive.
Nowhere too rural- maybe a nice little high street and a few parks?
Good nurseries/ primary schools.
Budget - £200k for a 3 bed house with garden & driveway.

We'd be relocating from the north so somewhere near the M1 might be useful for visiting in laws? (but not essential)

Melton Mowbray might fit that description but the town centre is a bit dull. Might be the wrong side of Leicestershire for you

ricki379 · 11/07/2019 13:56

Anstey is pretty good - nice village but not too small, with Leicester town centre a short bus ride away but also on the doorstep of Bradgate park. You can definitely get a nice 3 bed semi with drive/garden for that money too.

Duebabynumbertwo · 11/07/2019 13:57

Thank you. Yes I think it probably is - I'm looking more west or north Leicestershire.

Broughton Astley or Lutterworth. Good bus routes and both have plenty going on. I’ll be moving to one of those soon! See you at the school gates 😂

PseudoQuim · 11/07/2019 14:01

Wigston or Oadby. Both have their own town centres but it's not far to Leicester city centre. Lots of good schools too.

Breastfeedingworries · 11/07/2019 14:10

Lutterworth has great link to the m1, shops restaurants, a Waitrose. Leisure centre, big parks. Good schools and nurseries. Only issue is not sure if it would be in price range. Have a look online x

Duebabynumbertwo · 11/07/2019 14:39

Thanks everyone. Lutterworth looks great but not many houses within our budget.

A relative of mine lives in Hinckley and I have always thought it nice when we've visited. It might be too 'town like' for you though.

familycourtq · 11/07/2019 15:23

Loughborough or thereabouts? Good rail links, reasonable buses and close to M1?

MrsExpo · 11/07/2019 15:27

Ashby de la Zouch has all of that. Nice town too. Worth considering.

stucknoue · 11/07/2019 15:30

Birstall has lots of new builds going up, Leicester forest east has easy access to the m1 and city. Oadby &Wigston are closer to the city, the latter is cheaper. Most parts of the city will get you a house for your budget

liitlepenguin · 11/07/2019 15:31

Sileby or Barrow ? Not too far from the city. Good transport links

Dependent on your budget Quorn or Rothley both naice

liitlepenguin · 11/07/2019 15:38

Sorry just seen you posted budget !!! Sileby / barrow upon soar would probably fit your budget. Both have good links to the m1 / Leicester and Nottingham. Good nursery schools and both have a high street and nice parks !

Heyha · 11/07/2019 15:44

Ashby is a good shout and you'd probably get quite a bit for your budget on that side of the county.
There are nice bits of Hinckley and surroundings too, bit further to get to the M1 but the m69 is usually quite an easy run.

SweetSummerchild · 11/07/2019 15:55

East Leake?

Good schools, on bus route between Loughborough and Nottingham, not that far from M1.

OTOH, it’s right on the flight path to East Midlands and planes fly 24hrs a day.

Duebabynumbertwo · 11/07/2019 18:36

Thanks everyone. Lots of suggestions to look at.
I grew in Hinckley many years ago so feel a bit weird about moving back there.

We're on the west edge o f the city just outside Braunstone. Really good transport, 5 lovely parks within 15 mins walk, Asda, Sainsbury's, Tesco and Lidl within walking distance and cheap house prices. 3 x 'Good' and 'Outstanding' primary schools within 😁

Lwmommy · 11/07/2019 18:41

Oops, pressed the wrong button....

Within 10 mins walk. People hear Braunstone and think bad things but it's lovely and quiet here and some nice houses.

Lepetitpiggy · 11/07/2019 18:45

My dh is from Broughton astley and it's quite nice. I love Liere though. Gorgeous village!

YouWhoNeverArrived · 11/07/2019 18:45

I live near Hinckley. The town centre has been regenerated in the last few years and is now very nice, if a bit soulless.

Ashby is a good shout, albeit very quiet.

MrsElizabethShelby · 11/07/2019 18:47

Ashby de la touch, call baby number two Adrian.

muddypuddled · 11/07/2019 18:52

Burbage is lovely. Close enough to Hinckley for the shops but far enough away to have the village feel. Very good schools and lots of family events around the year. We love it here!

Breastfeedingworries · 12/07/2019 07:07

Leicestershire mums we should create a Facebook group ☺️ Got a support network right here! 👍🏻 X

Duebabynumbertwo · 12/07/2019 09:22

I think I'd like somewhere similar to Hinckley (nice shops, restaurants, parks etc.) but without bumping into everyone I went to school with, ex boyfriends etc. all the time.
