To ask where we should move to in Leicestershire (or nearby?)

After a crappy few months I've realised how little support I have nearby so I'd like to move closer to where my family are in Leicestershire sometime in the next couple of years.

Must haves -
A town/village with good transport links as I don't drive.
Nowhere too rural- maybe a nice little high street and a few parks?
Good nurseries/ primary schools.
Budget - £200k for a 3 bed house with garden & driveway.

We'd be relocating from the north so somewhere near the M1 might be useful for visiting in laws? (but not essential)

Overseal and Netherseal wouldn't be on my list if I couldn't drive...

I grew up in Loughborough so biased towards that of course.
I recommend shepshed, regular buses to Leicester and Nottingham (via the skylink) neither me or my DH drive and cope fine, there is a decent sized Asda and a soft play which is good for raining days,
Like all places there are parts of Shepshed I wouldn’t want to live in but you get that where ever you go. They are 4 primary schools which I believed are all either ofsted good or outstanding

And it’s 5mins from the M1 roundabout traffic depending

@Duebabynumbertwo I agree with @Flossyfloof Coalville is cheap for a reason!

coconuttelegraph · 14/07/2019 20:32

I know Leicestershire very well and suggest that you do not move there at all

Ever

A very good uni friend of mine lived in Leicestershire for a while, it was years ago so I don't remember the name of the place but it was lovely village, easy to get to Nottingham and Leicester, how can you possibly dismiss a whole huge county, what's wrong with you?

stucknoue · 14/07/2019 21:05

@koshkat

I've lived in many places on 2 continents and Leicestershire is better than most places I've lived! I'm guessing you haven't been many places, try living in south London, Leicestershire is bliss!

A little bit further south but Market Harborough is nice. Only 15 mins from the M1 with a nice selection of shops.

Depending where in coalville you lived - theres a small village nearby called Thringstone which is lovely.

Another shout for ashby - upcoming market town and theres alot going on these days. Plus the Statutes every september which is great fun for everyone. I dont live there (live closely) but have relatives who have done since I was a child and they love it. The bus services are okay as well. Good schools, and ashby castle is a nice day out.

I second the Leicestershire mums Facebook group! Was really chuffed reading familiar place names on here Grin

I live in Melton and its not so bad, town is a bit pants but theres worse places. I love living in leicestershire, it's a great county with so many links to nearby areas xx
