In your opinion. Just interested.

It is very common for people to say there is not enough “funding” to educate the disabled children in their school without ever really comprehending that if there isn’t enough money to educate ALL the children in our country the lucky able bodied ones shouldn’t be enjoying trips, swanky labs, and enhanced curriculums while the disabled ones get binned. Common as ....

damnson · 10/07/2019 21:22

And I've got plastic grass ffs!!

MayFayner · 10/07/2019 21:22

According to my mother (in the 80s/90s- she’s calmed down now):

  • ketchup
  • salad cream
  • net curtains
  • babies having pierced ears
  • tea bags
  • wearing tracksuit bottoms with high heeled court shoes (80s!)
  • drinking coke etc out of a bottle with no straw
  • any kind of packet or jar sauce
  • fabric softener
  • holding your knife like a pen

That’s just a selection 😂

rosegoldwatcher · 10/07/2019 21:22

Oh man Sarcelle - you can have most of that but I will defend red shoes (as long as they are made from real leather or suede - no plastic or glitter!!!)

Kanga83 · 10/07/2019 21:23

sarcelle- I have found my people in you Grin

Deuxcaggages · 10/07/2019 21:23

Swearing a lot.
Spitting in the street
Picking your nose
Just generally having poor manners.
My ex partner thought hanging your underwear on the washing line was common.

LynetteScavo · 10/07/2019 21:23

Spitting

Tattoos and sunburn together

Any item of household furniture or a shopping trolly in your front garden.

Front gardens which are extremely overgrown for no reason apart from laziness.

Wearing clothes that are far too tight, especially when you're over weight.

Buying vast amounts of Christmas presents for your children.

FrancesFryer · 10/07/2019 21:23

@ScreamingValenta

Wimbledon common is a place and the wombles pick up litter from it. Grin

MaeveDidIt · 10/07/2019 21:24

After finishing a meal giving their dinner plate a good licking.
I know someone who does this and she is totally oblivious that she's doing anything wrong😲.
I can't stand bad table manners.

StoneofDestiny · 10/07/2019 21:24

It's not where you are born or how much money you have. It's inappropriate behaviour, conversation or dress. Cringeworthy people that don't accept social norms.

TheChain · 10/07/2019 21:24

@MayFayner with the exception of tea bags (and ketchup on bacon sandwiches) your mother is completely correct in my opinion

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 10/07/2019 21:25

This is fun Smile

I type 'lol' a lot, and my son wears a baseball hat all the time... shock horror back to front Shock

I've read some flowers described as 'common' on the MN gardening forum, and I'm guilty of some of those too

The pansy, viola type combination

Other things:

Frozen convenience food
Large earrings also guilty
Obvious hair extensions
White SUVs
OTT gold jewellery
Baggy clothes
Skin tight clothes
Particular dog breeds
Very obvious fake tan
Huge TVs

I8toys · 10/07/2019 21:26

Eating in the street

ScreamingValenta · 10/07/2019 21:26

Aye, FrancesFryer - I know that really. 'Twas an attempt at a pun Grin - obviously Jilly Cooper has nothing to worry about!

Snog · 10/07/2019 21:26

Using the words "posh" or "pardon"

HazelBite · 10/07/2019 21:26

"common" is a term my Mother used in the 1960's. I've never used it and I am in my 60's. It is an outdated term replaced by "chavvy" in recent years.
My Mother used to say that women who went out in their slippers and hair rollers were "common", chewing gum very visably was "common", she hated the fact that I picked up a London accent as she thought it sounded "common".

TheActualAlexa · 10/07/2019 21:27

Publicly listening to loud, shit music on a mobile phone speaker.

Loud, crappy music from a 15 year old Vauxhall Corsa.

Deliberately modified cars to make louder exhaust noises.

Loud public arguments.

Loud swearing.

Loud anything.

Be quiet and go away.

SilverySurfer · 10/07/2019 21:28

According to my DM and GM 50+ years ago, common was my cousin, spotted on her way to the local dance hall wearing a black chiffon scarf (to protect her shampoo and set) Grin

noodlenosefraggle · 10/07/2019 21:29

Gaah you lot! I have a bloody Pulp ear worm!!!!

SquirellTamer · 10/07/2019 21:29

My old nan used to say smoking and eating in public was common.

Tinty · 10/07/2019 21:30

Mumsnetting 😆🤣

pointythings · 10/07/2019 21:30

Maeve your statement about licking the plate really gets to me. My late father did this. Because he lived through the winter of 1944 in the Nazi-occupied Netherlands, and there wasn't enough bloody food to let any of it go to waste. So he was encouraged to lick his plate and get every crumb, and he never lost the habit because he was very little.

Apart from that, this thread makes me want to get a tattoo, some fake grass and a hot tub so I can be nothing like the judgey people here.

Common = judging people without bothering to understand them.

Tinty · 10/07/2019 21:31

Also using emojis 😂 when you join a thread on mumsnet!

AnnaMagnani · 10/07/2019 21:32
