In your opinion. Just interested.

According to my mum:

Wearing tracksuits
Package holidays
Caravans
Processed food

Saying:
Lounge
Settee
Toilet
and infinitum

She is obsessed with u v non-u, and I am trying very very hard to break the prejudices I have absorbed from my upbringing, it is v hard as she has opinions on pretty much everything.

Rhubarbisevil · 11/07/2019 07:54

I know someone whose mother is a Lady and whose grandfather was an Earl. She has a trampoline in the back of her stately home for the kids. Admittedly it is hidden by the 200 year old box hedging.

hopefulhalf · 11/07/2019 07:55

Common is what each section of the middle class call the section below them to distinguish themselves from them. So you can tell where you are by what you particularly hate

This

hopefulhalf · 11/07/2019 07:58

So I can't stand matchy matchy curtains and three peice suites, also carpets down stairs. Much less twitchy about sofas in front gardens, tatoos and smoking.

VirginiaWolfHall · 11/07/2019 07:58

Lip fillers
Tattoos
Love Island (and that includes anyone who watches it Grin)

Talking with mouth full of food.

Resting face has mouth open.

Juicy Couture emblazoned (across arse) tracky bottoms
Big boobs no bra, trendy flat chested no problem.
Sneezing with no tissue or hanky or consideration of others.
Men who openly adjust tackle (gross)
Not washing hands after the toilet

Whoopstheregomyinsides · 11/07/2019 08:10

I see lots of things I dislike on here but I think the notion of being common is one I associate with mum’s generation so back then would have been cold drinks in a mug and animal
Print clothing! I can feel the sniffs at my leopard print items now. She hasn’t read the memo that it’s a neutral Grin

Ilovemypantry · 11/07/2019 08:12

Sarcelle
You are spot on...especially the duck face/trout pout, so many of these around these days and they just look so comical!

MrsGrammaticus · 11/07/2019 08:13

@FrenchtoEnglish.....your list is so big and inclusive, I actually don't know a single person who would fit your 'not common' criteria. Sounds like a person who exists within the pages of Harpers or Elle Home! 😁

AaaaaaarghhhWhereAreMyKeys · 11/07/2019 08:14

Driving a fancy BMW or Rangerover even though you live in a teeny house. Driving said vehicle absolutely everywhere, including on the school run even though you live 10 mins walk away. Parking said vehicle on the most convenient dropped curb or double yellow without giving a flying monkey about those who actually walk to school. When confronted by a resident who calls the council because you’re blocking her drive, you take a photo of her and put it on Facebook because apparently she swore at you (so is obvs really common Hmm).

Showing off - Really loud shouty conversations especially about things you want others to know about.

Also gossiping about people you don’t even know so don’t actually KNOW what actually happened.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 11/07/2019 08:16

This thread is hilarious.

Black bra under a white shirt.

Linguaphile · 11/07/2019 08:17

Jenniferturkington I was going to say Disney as well but was afraid of being flamed. Blush

VirginiaWolfHall · 11/07/2019 08:18

Ear piercing under the age of 12
Sky TV
Nail extensions (eyes dds 1&2 with weary acquiescence)
Sharing your life on Instagram or Facebook

Pinktinker · 11/07/2019 08:18

A certain type of tattoo, not just a blanket of all tattoos. I have a degree, I teach and I have a full sleeve of tattoos. They’re not tribal, flowers, names of my children etc. They’re very well done and designed by me, I have a couple of indie films, a Frida Kahlo one... Not the sort of thing you’d see on a ‘commoner’ Grin.

Anyway. For me it’s smoking (especially whilst pregnant or with children), swearing a lot, shouting in the street and hitting and pushing children around.

VirginiaWolfHall · 11/07/2019 08:21

I agree with most of Frenchtoenglish but I’m afraid my labrador is better bred than most of us, so I disagree with you over pedigree dogs.

SemperIdem · 11/07/2019 08:21

Calling your children names like Tiamarie and Jackdaniel.

Seen today in what appears to be a non-satirical article.

Pinktinker · 11/07/2019 08:24

I also find Range Rover Driver’s tend to be quite common. Not keen on fake tan, lashes, extensions, cakes on make up, fake nails etc either. Usually shouting names like Jayden, Kaiden, Lexi, Lacey...

Pinktinker · 11/07/2019 08:29

Pastel coloured loo roll is common. Only white is acceptable.

Once my Gran sent my Dad to the shop for some loo roll and he dared to return with some peached coloured rolls. She literally hit the roof Grin. ‘Who do you think I am? A commoner?! Toilet roll should only be white!’ I found it hilarious as a child and my poor Dad was absolutely baffled, she sent him back to swap it for white!
