To think that for medical reasons it is important that transgender people are correctly sexed

Saw this doctor on This Morning being called a bigot by Piers Morgan

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7227479/Doctor-sues-government-sacked-trans-views.html

Religious views aside, I think he raises an important point.

I've seen several cases recently where transgender people have been incorrectly identified by medical staff leading to their death/serious injury or the death of a baby.

Surely the solution is to retain their correct sex on medical records, birth certificate etc with a TG marker.

So AIBU to think that for medical reasons alone it is important that transgender people are correctly sexed?

Oh and I didn't make any link. You did.

I said a man in a dress in a ladies public toilet flashed at me.

The leap to him being trans wasnt made by me.

Xarra · 11/07/2019 09:40

Because even though they're segregated by (perceived) sex, it's also to do with being in a space that belongs to others of your own kind.

I note no one's really answered how you don't throw a transman out of a ladies toilet, or know a transwoman is using it if you can't tell...

Women feel more comfortable with women. Men feel more comfortable with men. We don't go off checking everyone's birth certs or pants to prove someone's status. You believe them.

Your whole issue is with trans people in toilets is those who don't appear to be their gender. Which is hypocritical, as you won't have batted a eyelid at the trans people you have shared toilets with because they look good enough to you...

DecomposingComposers · 11/07/2019 09:40

What does any of this have to do with the question raised in the OP?

Are you all trying to justify being able to dictate someone else's medical care based on which toilets they use or whether they compete in male or female sports?

I don't get what any of this has to do with whether your sex has to be recorded in your medical notes if you don't want it to be?

RedToothBrush · 11/07/2019 09:44

But would you feel comfortable in a man's body?

This question is such utter bullshit merely because we are talking unicorns here.

No man or woman can change sex. They are what they are. They might not like it or they might not like gender stereotypes but it doesn't matter.

It's a total strawman argument.

It's like asking would you be happy living as a dog. Or an oak tree.

It's hypothetical and irrelevant.

People who might feel like that are uncomfortable can only pretend to be something different. They will always remain in that body no matter what they do to it.

This is the point.

Why should anyone else pander to that pretense and / or delusion and / or belief?

Why should we do it anymore than someone who says 'I'm not comfortable being an ordinary person when I believe I'm the Queens grandchild?

Honestly. Just because you want something doesn't mean you are entitled to be it.

Xarra · 11/07/2019 09:45

So because a man in a dress (either a transwoman or cisman, either way, an abuser) abused you, we must block all people who might flash a penis at you from the ladies.

How about transmen who have had an operation to transition? Genetically, they're XX, they should be in the ladies toilet, they could still flash a penis at you.

A lady could flash her vagina at you.

It's absurd to say that because a man snuck in and showed you his penis, that means transwomen, who do not identify as men, and in many cases don't want a penis, let alone show it off and prove they have one and don't pass, would be a high risk to flash theirs at you...

Jamsangwich · 11/07/2019 09:47

Yes. Yes yes yes yes and, once more

YES. No penises in women's spaces. None.

God, you really are quite thick, aren't you?

birdsdestiny · 11/07/2019 09:47

You have not answered a single question posed by the women on this board not one.
What is a woman.
What evidence shows that 'feeling like a woman' makes you less likely to commit crimes.
Why do you personally treat transwomen differently to women.
Why are developing countries advised to segregate toilet/ changing facilities by sex.
And on and on.
Maybe you can answer this one.
What qualifications do you hold, either scientific or related to sport that give you the authority to decide how sport is segregated.

IfIShouldFallFromGraceWithGod · 11/07/2019 09:49

Xarra
You seem to have no understanding of how the brain develops. Gender has been created by society. Sex is a biological fact
Gender norms change over time and place
Our brains develop according to the environment which we grow up in
I don't think the average person realises how many MH conditions are created by our unhealthy society
Anorexia hasn't existed in every society and shouldn't exist. Gender dysphoria likely wouldn't exist if we didn't force gender expectations onto people
It is barking to start to force gender even more when we should be fighting against it. Gender expectations harm both males and females

Xarra · 11/07/2019 09:50

They remain in that body. It doesn't mean their mind matches it.

And yes, there are people who believe they're a different species or whatever. However being transgender has a big enough sample size and enough evidence, to not just be a delusion on the part of a few people. And gender is mental, and something that all humans can have, it's not a physical change, it's not related to your physical form, and it's not going outside the concept of human. Being a tree would be a species change and is something no human can comprehend.

birdsdestiny · 11/07/2019 09:50

If there is such an epidemic of women flashing their vaginas then obviously transwomen would not be safer in womens facilities, the level of risk is just too high.

BouquetNotBucket · 11/07/2019 09:52

A lady could flash her vagina at you

Yes, women flashing vaginas at people is a well known problem.

Xarra · 11/07/2019 09:52

So you don't want it XX unique, you want it based on an organ. Right. Not sex segregated. Penis segregated

Please check 2 spirit people in native Americans, the 3rd gender in India, and other cultures through the millennia that have had trans people without an issue.

RedToothBrush · 11/07/2019 09:54

A lady could flash her vagina at you.

Have you got the data for indecent exposure prosecutions by sex?

And I mean by sex not gender.

I wonder what we'd find.

This is relevant to medical treatment because sex matters in terms of treating the actual patient, the potential for harm if the patient refuses to acknowledge their sex, the protection of doctors in terms of litigation arising from misdiagnosis, the protection of doctors from physical harm, the protection and dignity of other patients, the protection of cultural sensitivities of other patients.

Yes it matters a lot, and trying to blur the lines due to feelings that have absolutely no grounding in reality is an issue.

It matters. Language matters.

Xarra · 11/07/2019 09:54

I don't treat transwomen different to women.the only reason I use the "trans" label is because you all get huffy if I just say "woman" and assume I mean an AFAB woman. I treat transpeople the same as cispeople.

RedToothBrush · 11/07/2019 09:56

Please check 2 spirit people in native Americans, the 3rd gender in India, and other cultures through the millennia that have had trans people without an issue.

Except this is cultural appropriation and revisionist history...

... But feel free to carry on.

birdsdestiny · 11/07/2019 10:00

That was the only one you attempted to answerGrin. I don't mean the use of trans and cis. I mean the way you talk about transwomen as opposed to women. You hilariously have just done it again in your answer to my question. You prioritised the question relating to transwomen and ignored the questions relating to women's safety.
You categorically treat transwomen as different to women in every post.

RedToothBrush · 11/07/2019 10:03

Also people burnt women for centuries for being difficult and daring to have opinions and that was apparently culturally accepted (any woman who challenged it ran the risk of ending up going the same way but this in no way had an effect of course) so that's obviously OK now too, by that same logic.

koshkat · 11/07/2019 10:03

A lady could flash her vagina at you

Ummm, just how on earth would a 'lady' manage to do this? She would have to be some sort of fucking contortionist...Hmm

DtPeabodysLoosePants · 11/07/2019 10:06

A vagina is an internal organ. At least get your anatomy right if you're going to make absurd comments. Perhaps an anatomy and physiology book would be helpful to you in general @Xarra as you do seem to struggle with this. I recommend Tortora and Grabowski from my nursing days.

Tyrotoxicity · 11/07/2019 10:09

A quick note on how reproductive sex is determined, primarily for Xarra's benefit:

The male of the species produces small gametes. The female produces large gametes. There are only two gametes. XX and XY chromosomes are how this is achieved in humans and other mammals. Other species may have entirely different chromosomes. They still divide into male and female based on gametes.

It doesn't matter if, for example, you've had a successful womb transplant and carried your own genetic child to term. If the gamete you supplied, the gamete your body produces, is the male gamete, you are still male.

Off now to catch up on the rest.

Xarra · 11/07/2019 10:10

Don't all women get to be safe? Why prioritise one over the other?

Ciswomen deserve to be safe, and therefore men shouldn't be in women's toilets. Stop defining men as "penis people".

Someone tell me,please, where a post-op transman should go if genetically and biologically they're female, so can't use the men's, and can't use the ladies because they have a penis?

Women just want to use the damn toilet. In a cubicle.

Women should use the ladies. Men should use the men's. There, treating everyone as equal. I didn't use trans or cis.

nolongersurprised · 11/07/2019 10:10

a ciswoman can have more testosterone and be stronger than a cisman!

Nope. This isn’t true. You don’t get to reinvent science as well.

Xarra · 11/07/2019 10:10

Ok, flash their labia at you. I was oversimplifying. You all knew what I meant.

BouquetNotBucket · 11/07/2019 10:11

Please check 2 spirit people in native Americans

Do you even known when the term “2 spirit” was coined? Do you know why?

(Also, the are about 500 Native American tribes, with several hundred languages. They aren’t all the same, please don’t be so ignorant).

RedToothBrush · 11/07/2019 10:11

I have to say I think the peddling of this nonsense is precisely why doctors should be free to speak freely and without fear as all this political rot needs challenging and exposing as a totalitarianist affront to women
