To think that for medical reasons it is important that transgender people are correctly sexed

Saw this doctor on This Morning being called a bigot by Piers Morgan

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7227479/Doctor-sues-government-sacked-trans-views.html

Religious views aside, I think he raises an important point.

I've seen several cases recently where transgender people have been incorrectly identified by medical staff leading to their death/serious injury or the death of a baby.

Surely the solution is to retain their correct sex on medical records, birth certificate etc with a TG marker.

So AIBU to think that for medical reasons alone it is important that transgender people are correctly sexed?

They believe and know they are a woman but how? And how is that different from someone who believes most deeply that they are God or Boudica?

Xarra · 10/07/2019 18:12

hence why the 'c prefix that is banned' was invented, so women could have a context to talk about women as a whole and define where they were talking about women and where it was about women. wry smile

Because women are women, and transwomen shouldn't have to use the trans unless they want to.

koshkat · 10/07/2019 18:14

No I am saying that gender is completely irrelevant. Bio sex is all that matters.

koshkat · 10/07/2019 18:16

Xarra your arrogance is astounding! So women need to use 'cis' to talk about their sex class but transwomen can use trans or not if they want to?

Not happening friend.

jellyfrizz · 10/07/2019 18:17

and a transqueen feels they're a queen as natually as they breathe.

They may still do un-queenly things. They may still like "commoner" things, just like you might. Saying liking commoner things makes you no less a queen, is the same for transqueens - they can like commoner and royal things.

They believe and know they are a queen

Xarra · 10/07/2019 18:18

How does anyone know what they identify as? You just know. And in the case of sex and gender it has been proven these aren't linked.

Sone trans* people have dysphoria and know they should have a vagina, or a penis.

What do you picture as 'you' in your head when asked to picture yourself?

How can i know I don't identify as female gender if I dont know what female is to recognise that it's not me? I just do.

How do you know you don't like the colour yellow and you like the colour green? You just do.

Jellylegsni · 10/07/2019 18:18

What is a woman? Someone who identifies as a woman.

What does that mean? It's nonsense.

Eaudear · 10/07/2019 18:18

They believe and know they are a woman

People 'believe and know' that there is a God. They 'believe and know' that if they pray, God will answer. They 'believe and know' that when they die they will go to a better place.

Does that mean that I have 'believe and know' all that too?

birdsdestiny · 10/07/2019 18:19

Xarra, if you believe that transwomen are women why do you treat them differently from women. It shines out from you on this thread. Perhaps you dont even realise it. You prioritise transwomens feelings, and their beliefs. When women say "that hurts me, it upsets me" you ignore those feelings. You need to model by example because you are not in any way treating transwomen in the same way as women. The belief no one believes.

Eaudear · 10/07/2019 18:20

You just know.

Ah, the basis of any solid argument Grin

CuriousaboutSamphire · 10/07/2019 18:20

So you know the term cis is an invention, a bastardised chemistry term?

Hurrah!

But do me a favour and think that last line through... you want non female women to use the word woman, presumably o they feel better about themselves, and for female women to add a term to identify themselves as a different sort of woman.

Oh dear... you have, yet again, been utterly transphobic in identofying the fact that transwomen are not actually women, or why would there need to be an additional term, and pissed off all women. We ARE the epitome, the very defintion of female, of woman. Why do we need a caveat?

Can you see why we are all laughing at you, out here in front of our screens? Every time you try to define something, to explain something, you fall into a quagmire of your own making. You are literally trying to explain why the Earth is flat - in human terms!

[Fuck! I said literally - did anyone die? Soz, if you did]

Xarra · 10/07/2019 18:21

No, all women can use women to discuss women. Trans or not.

But in context, it is useful to be able to define what "type" of women, and it is far more inclusive to say transwoman do this and ciswomen do that, than transwomen do this and women do that, because that is implying transwomen aren't really women. Saying women do this and women do that makes no sense and has no context.

JellyfishAndShells · 10/07/2019 18:21

There’s a relentlessness about this circular, baseless argument that is oddly mesmerising.

Nothing real is real.
Everything theoretical is true.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 10/07/2019 18:22

There certainly is.

SlocombePooter · 10/07/2019 18:23

Xarra when people suffering from mental illness have delusions and obsessions, do you accept that although these things seem real TO THEM, they are not objectively real in any sense?

Eaudear · 10/07/2019 18:23

JellyfishAndShells

I know right, it really is mesmerising!

jellyfrizz · 10/07/2019 18:23

And in the case of sex and gender it has been proven these aren't linked.

So why do you insist on linking them? Even using the same word for sex and gender and saying that trans people should be able to access prisons of the opposite sex. Why should they? The prisons are segregated by biology, not identity. Sex, not gender. Sport too. For very good reasons.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 10/07/2019 18:24

Nothing real is real.

Stop it! I already had Hey Jude as an ear worm - for the lyric

Hey Jude, refrain
Don't carry the world upon your shoulders

Xarra is holding up the TRA side of things all alone.

And now I have Strawberry Fields Forever alternating with it! Grrrrrr!

LolaSmiles · 10/07/2019 18:25

Oh no, the existential debate on what a woman is has started. Grin The one where everyone knows what the definition is, but the woke in the world will try to argue that night is actually day and a push bike is actually a supercharged Harley Davison motorbike.

Biological sex is not the same as performing a range of gender stereotypes. It's as simple as that.

Xarra · 10/07/2019 18:25

er, no, i want everyone to use 'woman' but why should transwomen nead a caveat? they are women too. They are women. they have equal right to the term. You are different types of women. why do you get the term women and they get a derivative? Thats hardly equality.

Er, and cis- is greek, like trans- I believe. it means 'same'..

CitadelsofScience · 10/07/2019 18:25

I'd seriously like to know what 'it feels like to be a woman'?

I don't feel like a woman, I just feel like me.

I know I'm a woman because of my biology.

I have things in common with women and I have things in common with men. Neither define how I feel.

I always want to ask when I read these threads. When someone states they feel like a woman, can someone define what that feeling actually is?

Apologies because I'm no where near as eloquent as some due to illness, I used to have more of a functioning brain but menopause is currently putting paid to that...

RedToothBrush · 10/07/2019 18:26

And in the case of sex and gender it has been proven these aren't linked.

And this has been proved how?

Arendt was spot on about the perfect subject for totalitarianism and incapacity to describe and define in any meaningful way beyond 'know' and 'believe'.

Jellylegsni · 10/07/2019 18:28

er, no, i want everyone to use 'woman' but why should transwomen nead a caveat? they are women too. They are women. they have equal right to the term. You are different types of women. why do you get the term women and they get a derivative? Thats hardly equality.

They aren't women.

Xarra · 10/07/2019 18:28

Because you are using the same word (woman) for sex and gender?

If people just stopped conflating the 2...

And women should be in women's prisons because they could be abused by men. and women have different needs. That includes transwomen.

Xarra · 10/07/2019 18:32

Transwomen are women.

End of.

And personally? Let's just get rid of gender. And sex. And gender roles. And just be people. With a penis, or vagina, or both. I don't care.

It'd probably reduce a lot of oppression too, but then, you'd still get people wanting to be labeled based on their physical attributes, because people love labels.

i hate labels.
