To ask advice on this foot wound? (Pic included)

So last Friday (10 days ago) I fell off a children's roundabout at work and got a few cuts.

This one on my foot was cleaned straight away and I've been cleaning it with TCP but it's getting worse, my whole foot feels bruised and like the skin is being stretched tight and hot to touch too. My lower leg aches.

I plan on seeing pharmacist tomorrow but noticed there's some red lines coming from the wound and when touched it's very tender, I've a few chronic health problems, not too worried as temp is 37.4 it's just so painful.

Anyone got any tips? Don't want to consult dr google and can't sleep with the pain. Feeling such a wuss.

Any chance we can see an updated photo?

AbsentmindedWoman · 09/07/2019 14:23

It sounds to me like the infection is causing a lack of clarity of thought, OP. Honestly you need to be treated asap.

Don't waste time taking more photos, please just call an ambulance. Keep repeating your symptoms and medical history and jot them down on paper as well.

BellyAching19 · 09/07/2019 14:24

Is this even real? If people were telling me I could die from a photo and outlining my symptoms as sepsis I’d be in an ambulance and demanding a sepsis assessment. Not fannying around on mumsnet for days on end

Laiste · 09/07/2019 14:27

@BellyAching19 i agree. I'm terrified we're going to have a 'live' death on MN and we all just refreshed the thread till it happened!

I think i need to step away from this.

whatswrongwithmyarm · 09/07/2019 14:27

It can be really hard to advocate for yourself when you're feeling so unwell. She's been to A&E twice now so hardly fannying around.
Op you really do need an ambulance. I hope you've called one by now.

BellyAching19 · 09/07/2019 14:28

@Laiste

That’s what I’m expecting. Someone to come on in a couple of days posting “I’m sorry to say that OP died”

Laiste · 09/07/2019 14:31

There have been long and very touching threads in the past which had the death of the OP as a conclusion :(

But not with the OP actually updating their gradual deterioration while we all shouted GET AN AMBULANCE

SilverTheCat · 09/07/2019 14:33

Loads of scaremongering posts. You either trust health care professionals or you don't - and none of you can make a diagnosis of sepsis from your sofas.

You've been to A & E twice. They've given you advice and antibiotics. Because you're now feeling worse I'd probably make an emergency doctors appointment and see what he/she advises

I wouldn't pay too much attention to ' oh my god, op you're going to die' posts.

BellyAching19 · 09/07/2019 14:35

@SilverTheCat

Lots of unnecessary deaths caused by undiagnosed sepsis. Your advice is dangerous. Better to scaremonger than tell her she’ll be ok

definitleyshouldknowbetter · 09/07/2019 14:36

BellyAching19 that’s a bit harsh!

The OP has been to hospital twice and been sent away, when you’re feeling shit it can be hard to be assertive even when you know you’re not right.

As a nation we’re almost conditioned to respect the NHS at all costs but it does have its failings as most can people can testify to, sometimes the medics don’t get it right, either though arrogance or more likely from being pushed to the limits of their capacity through lack of funding and being completely stretched but as we’re so conditioned into respecting it we tend to take their word for it when they send you on your way.

managedmis · 09/07/2019 14:37

Exactly, belly ache

It's all a bit much really

SilverTheCat · 09/07/2019 14:40

My advice is dangerous? What, advising to see a health care professional today? Get a hold of yourself for god sake

I'd bet my house that the op's foot won't drop off any time soon but the right thing to do, as she's feeling worse, is to seek further advice. Not from you scaremongering numpties but from trained professionals

Throckmorton · 09/07/2019 14:41

OP if you are reading this, please for the love of god call an ambulance. If this is sepsis, minutes matter

SilverTheCat · 09/07/2019 14:41

@BellyAching19 and you're obviously hard of reading. Not once did u tell her she'd be ok. The thing is, I don't know. Bit like you eh?

I gave calm practical advice. Unlike you WAHHHHH OP YOU WILL DIE

Throckmorton · 09/07/2019 14:45

SilverTheCat - if this is sepsis, you are right that her foot won't drop off, but mostly because she might die before that happens. None of us can diagnose over the internet, but from what the OP has described, this is a get-to-A&E-right-now situation, not a go to the GP (even if today) situation.

BellyAching19 · 09/07/2019 14:45

You’re hard of thinking, clearly. Have you ever tried to get an emergency gp appointment? I have and you don’t tend to get seen the same day. She needs A&E. And if it is sepsis, her foot falling off will be the least of her worries!!

SilverTheCat · 09/07/2019 14:47

I wonder what A& E will say a third time?

Look I'm not with the op. It's guess work from everyone. The HCPs who have seen her have so far been unconcerned. I'd take something from that if I was the op

I'd also know how I was feeling in myself and if I worsened I would see further help

I mean, what else is there to say really?

Oh yeah - some scaremongering

ineedtostopbeingsolazy · 09/07/2019 14:49

Can we see a photo of what your foot looks like now op?

Luckingfovely · 09/07/2019 14:50

How about stopping the arguing and point scoring, and remember that the OP is in considerable distress, hmmm....?

MollyMoo10 · 09/07/2019 14:53

Honestly I would get an emergency appointment with your GP.
You’re more likely to get a decent conversation with your DR and they are more likely to know your whole backstory.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 09/07/2019 14:55

Silver
What is not guesswork is that neither HCP has been told or taken account of the medication the OP is already taking which suppress her immune system. She has had sepsis before.

SylviaAndSidney · 09/07/2019 14:57

I'm not holding my breath for an updated photograph anyway, and I don't think it's because OPs foot has fallen off.

MichaelMumsnet · 09/07/2019 14:57

Hi all, just dropping by to ask for the usual peace and love.

And OP - there's lots of useful advice here, much of it saying call 111.
So, if you're worried about any symptoms, please do speak to a medical professional.

And here's the advice that's pinned to the top of our General health section:
If you have medical concerns, please seek medical attention; if you think your problem could be acute, do so immediately. Even qualified doctors can't diagnose over the internet, so do bear that in mind when seeking or giving advice.

Norfolkenchancemate · 09/07/2019 15:00

Any update OP? I flagged this as follow yesterday and fully imagined you'd be in hospital on an IV when I checked back. Please call an ambulance.

Laiste · 09/07/2019 15:03

It's important that people understand that sepsis isn't a 'septic foot', or 'septic' whatever. The foot falling off would be a minor concern compared to sepsis! I didn't understand until my mum had it a couple of years ago.

''Septic shock is a potentially fatal medical condition that occurs when sepsis, which is organ injury or damage in response to infection, leads to dangerously low blood pressure and abnormalities in cellular metabolism.''

In layman's terms the 'sepsis' arises from the original infection (any infection, often a urine infection). It goes through the body very quickly and the internal organs fail one by one. Like a house of cards one doctor said to me. It was hard to get my mum back from the brink even when she was diagnosed quickly, correctly and given the correct ABs. We were told another hour or two without the correct ABs could have been fatal for her. She was 6 weeks recovering in hospital and longer struggling at home. That's why some of us are panicing for the OP a bit.
