I've just taken my niece out for lunch. She's 16 and with the arrival of the weather she's been wearing a t-shirt and a mini skirt with her converse. Typical look for your typical teen but for just during lunch alone she was accosted by 2 different men who asked for her number. Both men clearly middle-aged and trying their luck. I admit she does look older than a teen but sheer audacity of these men hitting on a 16 year old girl really riled me.

I remember walking to primary school one time (so under 11) and a guy working on a milk float offering me a lift to school, i was walking faster than the float and it was literally on the next street.
Only time i've experienced this though, as i have always been the overweight/ugly girl.
Was sexually assaulted in my mid 20's buy a kid who looked no older than 13 in a crowded store, that was just as bad, felt i couldn't complain as it was "just a kid".

Ineedhelptocope · 03/07/2019 19:31

And how many men approach girls "respectfully"? Plenty! Probably the majority

FFS. This just fucking enrages me.

anothernotherone · 03/07/2019 19:36

dadshere misandry is a word invented by MRAs in the 1970s out of fury that women had something that they didn't, it's not real. If your user name is dad's here and you post misogynistic apologies for paedophilic middle aged men it's unsurprising that people read your posts in a male voice.

SimplySteveRedux · 03/07/2019 19:42

I am beginning to think that the majority of men are attracted to very young girls.

Sadly I agree, I think there's a growing number attracted to both boys and girls too.

MoaningMinniee · 03/07/2019 19:44

Haven't read whole thread but here's the change.org petition that was mentioned... signed and shared by me and most (but depressingly not all) my friends. www.change.org/p/make-street-harassment-illegal-in-the-uk

Triskaidekaphilia · 03/07/2019 19:51

It's so gross. I had more unwanted attention from about 14-19 than in the 10 years since.

slipperywhensparticus · 03/07/2019 19:56

Seen it and I believe it my daughter is out and out gay wears tshirts to that effect daily still gets letching old men staring at her breasts she is 19 it still jars her

MsTSwift · 03/07/2019 20:10

Sarcelle I think I you are right but wish you weren’t.

magneticmumbles · 03/07/2019 20:29

Shout out 'paedophile' loudly. That usually makes them scarper.

EmeraldShamrock · 03/07/2019 20:35

An ex friend of DP's tried to justify it, as it was ok many years ago to marry a very young girl, I never like him after that.
Thankfully he is an ex friend.
My Dsis partner used to joke he couldn't wait till his DD was 15 so he could check out her friends, she is 17 now. Sad
My friends dad tried to kiss and grope me when I was 16.
NAMALT but many many are, it's scary.

EmeraldShamrock · 03/07/2019 20:37

Clearly boys and girls are born different no matter how much we deny it.

MyLovelyLadyFlumps · 03/07/2019 20:40

I remembering discussing this at school - a boy was saying another boy’s sister (at the same school) was hot. He was like she’s 13! We were 18. Some boys were for/against. The teacher joined in, I can’t remember whether he was for/against.

MenuPlant · 03/07/2019 20:42

How do you explain the different levels of street harassment in different countries, and the fact that plenty of men don't behave like this, then?

MenuPlant · 03/07/2019 20:45

That was a question for emerald

higgley · 03/07/2019 20:47

Really bloody grim. Dirty, filthy old men (even if they're only pushing 30 themselves)..some of them fathers of daughters themselves but they still behave like perverts. I really don't know what else to say other than the world would be better off without them, I know that. How ashamed would you be as the mother of these men?!

EmeraldShamrock · 03/07/2019 20:49

and the fact that plenty of men don't behave like this, then?
I know we would never like to believe brothers fathers partners behave like this.
I've always worked in male dominant jobs lots of husbands, brother, fathers are like this, I am sure their daughter's wife's and sisters wouldn't think it.
I was horrified when I fixed Dads computer and saw he was watching lots of porn, not all carefully selected over 50's women considering he is 70. Envy = puke

MenuPlant · 03/07/2019 20:56

The levels of street harassment vary a lot between counties though.

Why would that be if, as you say, it's just what men do.

EmeraldShamrock · 03/07/2019 21:02

The level of harassment may change from country to country but whichever country it happens in it is always men who do it.
Some countries are worse as they openly abuse women, others prefer to leer out a car window, whatever way it comes across it is always men.
NAMALT obviously but lots of men.
Maybe the difference is testosterone or years of conditioning.

Buddytheelf85 · 03/07/2019 21:03

It's so gross. I had more unwanted attention from about 14-19 than in the 10 years since.

Definitely my experience too, although I’d say it was more 11-18 (it tailed off when I stopped wearing school uniform). To be honest the behaviour I experienced from men as a pre-teen and teenage girl made me not want a daughter of my own.

MenuPlant · 03/07/2019 21:05

Emerald yes so if it is better in some countries than others things can change, I think, they can improve.

It takes a shift in society to say actually, this is not acceptable. And then way less men do it.

MsTSwift · 03/07/2019 21:14

Which counties is it better in? Worse than England in France and Italy. I was flashed at twice in 3 days as a geeky teen in st mako aged 14z Egypt and North Africa I would say to be so bad you can’t visit unaccompanied as a young woman unless constant verbal harassment is your thing. Maybe Nordic countries and Germany?

MsTSwift · 03/07/2019 21:17

St Malo. City of perves

EmeraldShamrock · 03/07/2019 21:18

MenuPlant I think it can and will change.
I hope. It will take time the #metoo and the cup of tea analogy helped.
OTOH the porn business is booming, more obscene than ever, we're all apparently living in the years of sexual revolution where anything is exceptable.
A rock and a hard place comes to mind.

EmeraldShamrock · 03/07/2019 21:18

*were

Sarcelle · 03/07/2019 21:22

It must actually be exhausting to be a man. Forever on the alert for someone to leer over. Every opportunity they get. Exhausting.
