Following on from this -it was just getting interesting. Someone posted about how Meghan called herself a feminist but hadn’t earned the title. I was interested to know how you earned the title- but the thread ended.

And people can be tacky yet still be telling the truth. Maybe treating people as disposable doesn't instill much loyalty in them.

GlitchStitch · 02/07/2019 10:15

There are numerous photos of them together having meals/ drinks, laughing together etc. But yes she's an awful person who is lying, they were never friends, Meghan cannot be criticised unless there is a video camera filming for incontrovertible proof and even then it would be the nasty cameraman's fault.

MsMaisel you firstly sniped about the National Enquirer. Then you were provided with an actual interview from the horse's mouth and that is still dismissed. Why are you so invested in placing MM above any criticism?

I'm not cyber stalking anybody. I read an interview and saw some pics when I googled her name. Confused

Obviously they were not friends

Of course, you know best. And you accuse me of being obsessed whilst making pronouncements about the friendship of 2 women you don't even know!

The Frogmore renovations are an irrelevance. I bet the Queen Mother spent more on gin and horses in a single year. I can’t be any crosser about them using public money to renevate a house than I can any the rest of it- Kate and her bloody boring clothes that cost £££, Princess Diana hosting lavish lunches for tabloid editors in Kensington Place Charles and his four quid a box biscuits, Prince Andrew titting about on a boat.... it’s all utterly mad, the cost of those reservations no madder than anything of the rest of it.

Well with that statement you’ve inadvertently revealed something about why they annoy some people.

£2.4 million is not ‘a drop in the ocean’ that’s a very arrogant statement when plenty of public bodies would love that sort of cash.

The QMs debts were paid by the Queen with her own private wealth because they knew they wouldn’t get away with billing the public.

Diana didn’t hold ‘lavish lunches for tabloid editors’, both she and Charles were noticeably uninterested in what they ate, apparently their chefs found the job very boring due to only cooking very simple plain food.

Charles biscuits don’t cost a penny to tax payer and they have bought in £11 million for charity to date.

The megxit hashtag on twitter is levels of batshit I didn’t previously know existed.

I think a lot of people behave really strangely when it comes the the Royal family, ardent Monarchists and staunch Republican’s become strangely alike after a certain point.

LaurieMarlow · 02/07/2019 11:11

I totally agree. I’d get rid of them in the morning if I could.

However if you think Meghan and Harry’s spending is anyway out of the ordinary for the royals then you are totally deluded.

The Cambridge’s spent 4 million on their refit of their quarters in Kensington palace. For context.

Daisypie · 02/07/2019 11:27

What frustrates me is the whole drive for them to be a global brand. The Queen and the BRF are the brand and Harry's job is to represent and support them. This whole thing about 'getting the US market' and teaming up with Oprah is not in service of the Queen but in service of themselves as a separate celebrity entity.

Bluerussian · 02/07/2019 11:37

£2.4m is not a drop in the ocean to us but if anyone is thinking of giving that amount to a charity or (God forbid), the government, it would be a drop in the ocean, soon gone.

There are plenty of non royal people who are so fabulously wealthy that it is almost unreal, we don't hear about them because they have a low profile. Those houses in Bishops Avenue, Hampstead, which are now derelict, reflect that. It's so wasteful when a little renovation would make them habitable and, if converted, could house several families. That is really wasteful and somewhat arrogant.

Meghan and Harry seem to be committed to worthy causes and prepared to work to achieve changes; we'll have to wait and see how it all pans out but in the meantime I don't think being angry about their expenditure is particularly helpful.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 02/07/2019 11:43

Maybe I'm deluding myself, but I'd like to think even this family would shy away from charging the QM's debts to the public purse. It's not as if she was short of assets, and so what if she ran up an overdraft with Coutts ... they knew they'd get it all back when she (eventually) died

dreamyspires · 02/07/2019 11:49

Yeah right, commitments to worthy causes...... Harry’s just been begging the world to use less of everything to save the planet, but it’s ok for them lot to use private jets whenever they fancy. Imagine if we all went by private jet across the Atlantic to indulge in a baby shower. Their “commitment” means not much more than spouting off to the rest of us to not do what they do. Oh I forgot, they are quite committed, they sometimes recycle their clothes, like wear them more than once. Confused

mrscampbellblackagain · 02/07/2019 11:55

I do agree that Harry and Meghan need better PR. Don't slam the addictive nature of social media within 48 hours of launching your own Instagram account.

Don't be photographed in a circa £50k dress for engagement photos - it just opens up comparisons to kate in her reiss frock. Again bad advice.

And don't lecture on the environment when the RF are dreadful users of helicopters/royal train etc etc. Everyone I know is sick to death of rich celebs telling them to fly less/use less plastic just before they board their private jet.

Cut back on the couture clothes a bit and go for some nice middle of the road designers preferably from the UK. Re-wear a dress and everyone will suddenly be praising Meghan for her frugality. Maybe take some snacks out for Archie in a Tupperware box in a couple of years and job done Wink

LaurieMarlow · 02/07/2019 12:00

One thing I do think Meghan should do is, like Kate, buy a handful of dresses from Reiss/Jigsaw and pimp that out to the media. That was a great PR move on Kate’s part.

Though I seem to remember Meghan did wear a dress from M&S once. Maybe she needs more of that.

Why did we all get brainwashed nto thinking the queen mother was the nations favourite. She was a deeply racist, greedy woman with very unpleasant views and a massive sense of entitlement, who spent money like it was going out of fashion. Disgusting to die owing millions to the bank when she had such a huge income. I’m sure in these days of social media and public awareness she wouldn’t go under the parapet. They can’t get away with blatant showy overspending like they did. All the royals are guilty of it but some are more in your face. This, I suspect could be the reason for MMs unpopularity. It’s wrong and naive to say it’s because of her race.

Obviously there are probably staunch royalists who don’t like her because of her race, but it’s wrong to tar everyone with the same brush.

mrscampbellblackagain · 02/07/2019 12:18

To be fair Kate wore a lot more high street in her early days than Meghan has done. God, I thought someone was going to have to wrestle those bloody LK Bennett shoes off her feet Wink

Kate wears a lot of Jenny Packham/Catherine Walker - the prices are not comparable with Dior Couture.

But anyway the perception currently is that Meghan is spending like crazy and that's where she needs better PR advice. I love fashion and love seeing what they wear but they need to be canny about it. So one Dior Couture ensemble and then 10 mid price point outfits.

mrscampbellblackagain · 02/07/2019 12:19

Of course Kate does wear a lot Alexander McQueen as well but some of it is ready to wear so more around the £1-£2k mark for a dress - still a lot I know.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 02/07/2019 12:22

Why did we all get brainwashed into thinking the queen mother was the nations favourite

I'd suggest the same reason that many seem to think the Queen's frugal, Charles cares deeply about the environment and all the rest ... pretty darned good PR, clever accountants and endless spin

Though to be fair, the Queen Mum really was the supreme actress to end them all, taking on a deeply inadequate man with clear MH issues and encouraging an impression of a halfway decent king

dreamyspires · 02/07/2019 13:04

True puzzled. Plus they have a very good PR team. People are going into raptures now because William came out and spoke to the oddballs camped outside the palace to commemorate Diana’s birthday. That’s all it takes. Throw them a few crumbs. Grin
