Following on from this -it was just getting interesting. Someone posted about how Meghan called herself a feminist but hadn’t earned the title. I was interested to know how you earned the title- but the thread ended.

Even if it was absolutely true that both Kate and Meghan actively pursued their husbands, would this be so terrible. It's not a crime to decide you want a certain lifestyle and to honour there and get it, rather than being a passive participant in your own life. Rather feminist some might say.
I'd rather believe this of Kate, instead of thinking she wasted years hanging around waiting for her boyfriend to make up his mind and is now landed with a husband who (if the Rise rumours are true) is just not that into her.

IWannaSeeHowItEnds · 09/07/2019 06:40

Sorry for the typos.

don't know, they could have chatted about her 'guy's gal' burger ad. All that pouting and sexy gazing would've been right up Cole's street.
I'm not sure that's snobby, more old fashioned slut shaming an actress for doing an acting job, where she was told to read from a script and do what the director told her to do because sometimes actors have to work for money. As does Ashley Cole. The Royals, not so much.

ItIsWhatItIsInnit · 09/07/2019 08:48

Why are people so insulting over a burger ad?

We all have to do jobs that are "beneath" us or against our values, loads of us sit in an office doing absolute bollocks that we hate for 8 hours a day just to pay the bills!

IABUQueen · 09/07/2019 09:20

i’ll justn leave this here, shall I?

You have my blessings OP. :D

“Which is fine, except that at roughly the same sort of time she was making noble sounding speeches about how she confronted the Suits producers about dressing her in tight, revealing clothes.“

There is a difference between doing a commercial and talking about how a drama presents women. The commercial she was acting sexy lady. In Suits she was acting a lawyer. Sexy clothes appropriate for one- not for the other.

The PR remains a disaster though. Today it's been revealed that her protection officer was told to tell surrounding audience at Wimbledon that they were not to take any photos of her, and she is also in talks with Vogue magazine to do a regular column. Harry and Meghan cannot really continue the path they are trying to tread with self promotion when it suits and demanding privacy at major public events when it doesn't?

BertrandRussell · 09/07/2019 09:43

Does anyone actually know what the context of the burger thing was? Obviously it’s a bit shit- but have we any idea when and why?

OP posts:
BertrandRussell · 09/07/2019 09:46

Isn’t that quite usual- the no photos thing?

And I thought the Vogue article thing wasn’t true either.

Racism in the police is such a funny subject isn't it!

I also wondered what that clip was doing there.

A lot of this thread is made up of implications/outright statements that people don't like MM because of racism.
I don't like her because I'm terribly jealous of people who've become rich via marriage or whatever*, and I want to be one. Not going to happen 🙁

But I have no idea why a sketch about police racism is appropriate here.
The police probably just think she's a bit of a nuisance because they have to protect her. Like they have to protect lots of people in the public eye. But not because she's mixed race.

*She wasn't rich before. Not properly. Very few people had heard of "Suits" before she started dating Harry. She's a heck of a lot richer now.

GlitchStitch · 09/07/2019 09:49

I don't think it's normal is it, to go to a major televised sporting event as a very high profile person and demand no photos are taken? The poor woman who was told off was only snapping Serena anyway.

IWannaSeeHowItEnds · 09/07/2019 09:53

Who told her off? Hope she told them to piss off.

PineappleFwitters · 09/07/2019 09:55

I doubt she's in talks for a column in Vogue, though I wouldn't be surprised by a photo shoot and an interview. Kate did the same a few years ago and Diana and Princess Anne also appeared in Vogue.

GlitchStitch · 09/07/2019 10:01

A royal protection officer told the woman (a PR consultant and former sports presenter) to not photograph the Duchess as she was there in a private capacity. She responded 'have you thought about having a word with any of those television cameras'.

BertrandRussell · 09/07/2019 10:03

I don’t think anyone was “told off”, were they? I hope they made a formal complaint if they were.

It’s perfectly normal to be asked not to take pictures when famous people go to events in a private capacity. My dd went to school with the dd of somebody famous, and we were asked not to take pictures when she was at fetes and things.

There's a difference between a school fete and a televised sports event with millions of TV viewers and a crowd of 12,000.

BertrandRussell · 09/07/2019 10:08

I’m aware of that. It’s the public person in a private capacity split I was talking about.

GlitchStitch · 09/07/2019 10:09

OP I'm surprised to see you defending members of the royal family making demands of the plebs, or actresses deliberately playing up to male fantasies. I've seen many of your posts over the years and it seems the total opposite of your usual views. I've said before that some think Meghan should be uniquely beyond reproach.

GlitchStitch · 09/07/2019 10:12

Yes and if she was at Archie's school fayre her request for privacy would be fine. I'm pretty sure K and W aren't photographed at school events either. But K is regularly snapped at Wimbledon, as are the many many other celebs who are there.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 09/07/2019 10:17

I thought the Vogue article thing wasn’t true either

Considering it's the Mail who broke this you're probably right, but I doubt we'll ever learn the truth anyway

If it's nonsense the story will fizzle out, and if it isn't I'd expect someone from on high to squash the idea pretty darned fast

Burpsandrustles · 09/07/2019 10:19

Megan is new and different, American, breath of fresh air.

If she was white, American it would be same fuss.

She's difficult to box and has this hideous family attacking her. Hopefully it will calm down soon and people will leave them alone.

LaMarschallin · 09/07/2019 10:20

@BertrandRussell

I've mentioned before that I think you're a bit "Jeremy Paxman-y" in that you keep asking the same question over and over.

You've been asked by me, and at least one other poster, more than once why you left that Not The Nine O'Clock News sketch about police racism there. To paraphrase you.

So, why did you?
It seemed odd.
