Following on from this -it was just getting interesting. Someone posted about how Meghan called herself a feminist but hadn’t earned the title. I was interested to know how you earned the title- but the thread ended.

You can take what I said in a literal sense or figurative sense. Your child, my child, everyone’s child on this forum is - by dint of the royal family existing - a serf compared to them and their children because of birth. I just don’t like the idea of my children being unable to achieve a status unless they ‘marry’ into it as there is no other route. They are not breeding cows. They are people.

Blitheringheights · 04/07/2019 07:59

OKmorty makes a lot of good points. KM just has figured out her stance, has been thinking about this role for 20 years and has a super supportive family who clearly have her back and never let her down.

I’m starting to think she’s a bit of a PR maestro actually, she clearly is also a huge and profligate spender, but she has curated a lovely niche as Nice, Tasteful Mother, who drops a bit of Zara and Hobbs and a few tactical rewears into the mix, took up photography so that she can release what she wants when she wants without external intrusion. She’s cultivating a semi-country girl vibe (and in fairness did bob off to Anglesea then Norfolk for years, giving herself a mega private home life), has chosen a safe, non controversial palette of interests (children, gardening, tennis). The Chelsea flower show garden was a master stroke of appealing to middle England. She never speaks unless she has to, reminding me of kate moss. She clearly has now invented a stately uniform for herself (dreaded coat dress). She’s a genius I tell you!

I feel for MM massively with the racism she obviously faces. I do often think ‘now if she was gwyneth Paltrow and marrying Harry and saying xyz, would she get this flak’ and the obvious answer is quite often yes.

Apart from racism, I think there is a bias in England against what’s perceived as ‘cocky, opinionated’ Americans. Which is wrong, but def a bit of ‘don’t be coming over here and saying what’s what’.

@MsMaisel: When I first saw the barbeque video over a year ago, I assumed it was a parody. www.youtube.com/results?search_query=meghan+markle+barbeque+video
Now, I don't know (or care, really).

Sorry if someone else has already posted it, but I couldn't see it.

I've missed these 'stunts', what has Kate done?

I can only think of the time she appeared in a see-through dress at a charity fashion show which, I think but am not sure (and am too bone-idle to go back and check) a poster here said showed her nipples.
Which I didn't think it did.

If you want to know about any more "stunts" you may have to employ BertrandRussel's style of questioning (reminiscent of Jeremy Paxman) and keep posting:

If Meghan pulled half the stunts Kate’s pulled there’d be such uproar we’d never hear the end of it
Could you tell me what these stunts are?

LaurieMarlow · 04/07/2019 09:31

That’s the official story peddled about Kate isn’t it? That she wore the see through dress at the fashion show to get Will’s attention.

I’m sure it’s total bollocks, but I get why the media like it

Blitheringheights · 04/07/2019 09:36

Meh, how many naice uni girls back then are NOT going to be reasonably excited wills was around and want a bit of royal attention?

I too am a republican (I mean it’s when you start extrapolating the titles across dukes and marquises and earls and suddenly think, wait, according to this system ALL these people are better than me?!? Hmm) but I have nothing against any of the individuals and enjoy watching the unfolding spectacle.

That video cannot be serious surely. And filmed when she was already starring in Suits, already in her 30s and regularly talking about her feminist credentials? It must be a parody!

TheCraicDealer · 04/07/2019 10:24

I can't criticise her for the video. She'd been a jobbing actress for a while, Suits was her "big break" and you never know when that gravy train will end. You've got to do what you've got to do to maintain a certain profile for the sake of your career, even if it means taking opportunities you might not be ecstatic at the idea of doing.

For related reasons I'm always a bit Hmmwhen people refer to her as being independently wealthy. Before Suits she was doing ok, but was still obliged to take calligraphy jobs between gigs to support herself. She did well out of Suits but she had a lifestyle to match- the Toronto home she rented for two years sold six months ago for £1million. That's before you think about the clothes (hasn't it been said designers didn't offer to dress her pre-Harry because she wasn't high profile enough?), beauty treatments, fitness regime etc. She hasn't officially earnt any money for two years (no shade!)- it's not realistic that she's paid for much of the expensive clothing or jewellery or private travel herself and still retained much of whatever nest egg she'd squirrelled away.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 04/07/2019 10:26

I can't get worked up about that video.

She's hamming it up for work, that's all.

SunnyInGrimsby · 04/07/2019 10:31

😲 OMG. I can never unsee the 'sexy' BBQ ad starring feminist and animal welfare campaigner, Megan Markle, sexily sizzling her beef burgers.

Doubt they were veggi burgers as then she couldn't lay claim to being a 'guys gal'.

Anyway these 2 are certainly adding to the gaiety of the nation and getting us talking.

BertrandRussell · 04/07/2019 10:37

“BertrandRussel's style of questioning (reminiscent of Jeremy Paxman) ”
At least when Jeremy Paxman did it he occasionally got answers. No such luck for me! Grin

It made me think of the Friends episode where younger Monica is making cooking 'sexy' by rubbing carrots all over herself and accidentally chops off Chandler's toe.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 04/07/2019 10:55

any expression of views - Prince Charles etc - are in my opinion out of order

Nobody's saying they shouldn't have private opinions, but when it comes to mouthing off in public I agree with you; much better, IMO, for them to keep it zipped

The problem with opinions - especially if controversial - is that as well as taking the credit if we're seen to be right, we also have to face questions from those who consider us wrong ... and that's something certain RF members clearly won't tolerate at any price

Actually I quite like how she comes across in that video. Mainly because we never get to see that cheeky fun side of her and it’s heartening to know that she’s not all earnest preacher, a persona both she and Harry have adopted since getting together. Harry famously has a cheeky and fun loving nature so it’s nice to think that they do have something of a fun streak in common after all.

Wow I'd never heard of most of those things about KM and I'd never heard of the MM BBQ video until I read about it on here. Interesting though that you have accused others of being obsessive about MM yet have a handy (very long) list of quite obscure things about KM ready just 'off the top of your head'.

TBF the video is quite funny, I thought it must be a parody as if it's serious it's pretty cringey. But I also think describing it as just a video where MM happened to be filmed in jeans and a belly shirt is a bit disengenuous.

OK MrsM are you ok? You really can't believe everything you read on the internet you know or I would also believe that MM was a yacht girl. Which is said about every female celeb and is vile.

BertrandRussell · 04/07/2019 11:32
