Following on from this -it was just getting interesting. Someone posted about how Meghan called herself a feminist but hadn’t earned the title. I was interested to know how you earned the title- but the thread ended.

I guess they’re accepting taxes to compensate themselves form the shit they’re probably being put through by the public. It’s probably the well earns price of defamation

They’re getting shit from the public because of the disgraceful way they’re behaving. How can’t you see what they’re up to.

LaurieMarlow · 03/07/2019 23:28

Appalling behaviour.

I can’t see anything they’ve done that’s particularly wrong (by the standards of the RF).

Coming back to a point made earlier, I think this is about people struggling with her elevation because she’s not the type of person they believe should be elevated above themselves.

If she was an English Rise aristo no one would be batting an eye.

LaurieMarlow · 03/07/2019 23:28

Rose, duh

LaurieMarlow · 03/07/2019 23:36

What is so ‘disgraceful’? I honestly don’t get it.

If they refused to do any public engagements / charity work, made rude remarks in public or kept suspect company (by the standards of the royals) then yes, I would understand. But they don’t.Confused

What about the fact that H&M won’t publicise the names of the godparents etc? I am an absolute republican but the royal family exists and part of the ‘cost’ to them for having such an extravagant lifestyle paid for by the people is that they live in the public eye.

I believe the difference with the K&W is that yes they have the lifestyle but they do play the part and are (when it comes to the bit) going to be King and Queen Consort - but least they seem to respect that.

Surely the point is, if they want to have the traditional trappings they should be willing to play the traditional part.

Personally I hope this will begin a proper assessment as to whether or not anyone not in direct line should be entitled to any such tax payers benefits. As that’s what they are.

LaurieMarlow · 04/07/2019 00:23

The godparent thing is the most questionable thing they’ve done. But even that’s hardly crime of the century.

I think we’ll find out more context about IG and it will make more sense.

LaurieMarlow · 04/07/2019 00:24

More context about it

I'm beginning to think the Queen perhaps should look into whether she can take back control of the Crown Estate on behalf of the Monarchy.
Use all the profits to run the Monarchy e.g. the palaces, the security etc.
There would be probably be millions left to do with what they please.
At least then the RF could do what they want with their own money.

If she did that she’d have to resume responsibility for funding the running of the country too (army/parliament and so on). I’m not sure she’d have anything much to play with.

So I doubt she’s gunning for it Grin

LaurieMarlow · 04/07/2019 00:39

It’s not their money

Aligatorsnaps · 04/07/2019 00:41

Well, there were also reports that she expressed a public opinion on abortion to a journalist. I am not saying she is right, wrong, pink or blue on what she thinks, but her saying anything is a total breach of royal protocol. If she is ‘royal’ her job is to sit pretty and tow the line

I think the godparents thing is because William isnt one of them and they know that there will be even more shit in the press about their "feud" etc if that's the case.

I think he asked a question more than made a public statement about his views but tbh yes, any expression of views - Prince Charles etc - are in my opinion out of order. I think the person who pays the piper plays the tune and the public pay the piper

Aligatorsnaps · 04/07/2019 00:52

As I said - I think it’s all outdated, irrelevant and idiotic. Why should my DC bow down to them as they popped out of me not them.

JaimeBronde · 04/07/2019 00:58

On second thoughts the Queen should not look into regaining all the money from the Crown Estates as didn't realise that it would include the National Debt, yikes 😱

Pannalash · 04/07/2019 01:02

If Meghan pulled half the stunts Kate’s pulled there’d be such uproar we’d never hear the end of it.

What 'stunts' are you referring to MsMaisel?

PeonyPink0 · 04/07/2019 01:41

William and Catherine would never be godparents as it would go against Royal protocol - so don't make an issue there where there isn't one!

OKMorty · 04/07/2019 02:16

I feel sorry for Meghan that she’s basically going to have to bear the brunt of being the newcomer RF member until the next prominent one comes along. Which is really when George gets married.

Every newbie gets shredded to pieces when they join the firm. Just lol at Kate, who has been looking positively radiant now the heat is off her and onto Meghan.

Bluerussian · 04/07/2019 03:17

Alligatorsnaps, are your children likely to encounter the royals and be expected to bow to them? I'm not anti royal but have never met any of them, most of us don't. If I did I would be respectful as I am to anyone I meet but wouldn't curtsey. The younger royals are less formal anyway.

BertrandRussell · 04/07/2019 06:34

I do agree that not saying who the godparents are is a very strange decision- particularly as it is , I think, a matter of public record. I can see why there might be circumstances where you wouldn’t want to announce them in advance- but that’s not what the statement said, is it?
