Following on from this -it was just getting interesting. Someone posted about how Meghan called herself a feminist but hadn’t earned the title. I was interested to know how you earned the title- but the thread ended.

Unless they’re waiting to see if Serena is in the Wimbledon finals...

dreamyspires · 03/07/2019 21:16

I bet the royal family aren’t paying for all the expenses and security at this Christening. No the taxpayers, the ones who they’re determined to shut out will cough up as usual. They’ve just had £2.4 million of taxpayers cash to do up their house, money that could have been spent on deserving causes. Absolutely appalling. Talk about taking the piss. Time for a republic more than ever.

MsJuniper · 03/07/2019 21:16

She ended up living on Mustique with a toyboy

Now that's a cautionary tale if ever I heard one.

IABUQueen · 03/07/2019 21:21

You know it’s nor really Meghan and Harry I’m worried about. It’s the way we are using these two to enable a culture of misogyny amongst the British society.

At the end of the day, Meghan and the royal family are a Symbol in British culture whether we like it or not. And when we focus our scrutany on the less privileged daughter in law, we are making that seem normal everywhere else.

Outsomnia · 03/07/2019 21:21

They are laughing at us, and manipulating us big time.

Playing us like a fiddle.

They should just feck off now and be as private as they wish. But no.... why?

It is speculation they seem to want now. Keep the plebs guessing, you know, those who are paying for them.

I am out now WRT to this pair, but will keep an eye of course... wink!

Ghanagirl · 03/07/2019 21:22

@yolofish
I’ve changed my mind you seem lovely...

It will be a matter of public record anyway which you can pay to access.

I think they are being utter dicks about it and almost asking for crap from the press.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 03/07/2019 21:35

if they hadn’t made that announcement today, very, very few people would know or care what was happening at his Christening. But now they’ve made his Christening and the Godparents national talking points by claiming they want it secret

Exactly

FWIW I'm not usually that bothered about the secrecy thing, but it's hard to avoid thinking it's deliberate this time

IABUQueen · 03/07/2019 21:36

MsMaisel

I totally agree.. I have no idea how people think others live their lives trying to spite them.. people only have one life to live and no one is bothered living it for someone else.. I hope!

If anything... our intense scrutiny is what’s probably influencing the way the other elder royals who care a lot about image are probably interfering and pressuring the couple while they need support with their newborn and new marriage.

The only ones “manipulating” the public are those who care about what the public think and are doing what’s necessary to shut them up. These two are just being themselves actually from what I can see.

JaimeBronde · 03/07/2019 21:37

I was wondering if an Obama is going to be a Godparent? (Would be lovely)
If so I kind of get the secrecy bit.........Trump would go dolally tap!
But then like FannyW said we'll know all the Gp info by the end of next week.

Well even more Doolally than normal if that is possible for Trump.
I'm imagining the tweet now......

LaurieMarlow · 03/07/2019 21:51

I was wondering if an Obama is going to be a Godparent?

That’s a really interesting thought. It would certainly explain this development.

dreamyspires · 03/07/2019 22:02

If they just want to “be themselves” then they need to stand down from public office and support themselves. Unfortunately for them they haven’t realised that being royal and receiving vast amounts of money and privilege comes with a price......a duty to the public. If they don’t like it, fine. Stand down immediately and don’t take another penny from the public purse. They can’t have it both ways. They seem to think they can. The taxpayers of this country are already hard pressed, £2.4 million has just been spent on renovations for their house, paid for by the very people they now want to exclude. Things like this can make the monachy fall out of favour very quickly. Their actions are showing very clearly what they think of the peasants, ridiculous to defend them.

dreamyspires · 03/07/2019 22:07

. Face it they couldn't give a shit about you one way or the other. None of us ever enter their heads for a second.
So why should we give a shit about them. Seriously, how can anyone care about them If that’s how they feel. But they still want our money......what a bloody joke.

I honestly dont understood the point of this thread.

dreamyspires · 03/07/2019 22:31

Done what’s expected of them? they’ve done exactly what they wanted to do, as and when it suits, and enjoyed themselves into the bargain. Now for some odd reason they’ve decided to go the opposite way, again because it suits them. I say, let them carry on, if it speeds up a republic they’re going the right way.

The money for Frogmore was not necessary and wouldn’t have been done if they weren’t living there. Appalling that the government gave the go ahead to such a large sum of money when everywhere else is cut to the bone. Disgusting.

LaurieMarlow · 03/07/2019 22:49

I assume the money came from the civil list so government had no say in how it was spent and it wouldn’t have been diverted to the public anyway.

You do realise the Cambridge’s spent 4 million on a refit of their KP apartment?

dreamyspires · 03/07/2019 23:00

The Cambridges big spend got massively slated at the time. But with these two it’s one thing after another. What they’re doing now is the oldest PR trick in the world, It’s what celebrities do, the thing is they aren’t celebs. Dearie me.

dreamyspires · 03/07/2019 23:01

Btw there isn’t a civil list. But the money came from the taxpayer whichever way you look at it.

IABUQueen · 03/07/2019 23:02

So how much control does the public expect from the new comer to compensate for the unfairness they feel about taxation they pay to a family which has been enjoying it for decades and centuries.. while this girl gave up hard earned income and dignity, for only just a year??

It’s easy to take it out on the new comer isn’t it instead of dealing with the issue head on..

I’m pretty sure Harry would rather have his mother back than all this royalty and I’m pretty sure meghan would rather enjoy her motherhood and marriage without every female in England behaving like a jealous sister in law.. she would probably pay all her earnings from taxes to opt out.

I guess they’re accepting taxes to compensate themselves form the shit they’re probably being put through by the public. It’s probably the well earns price of defamation.

I don’t envy them one bit. Poor sods.

LaurieMarlow · 03/07/2019 23:11

The Cambridges big spend got massively slated at the time

Can’t remember a single peep about it personally

But the money came from the taxpayer whichever way you look at it.

No. Crown estate money may well be public money depending on how you see it, but it’s definitely not tax payer money. It wouldn’t be diverted to the public purse either.

dreamyspires · 03/07/2019 23:23

I can remember loads of criticism of the Cambridge’s over spend. Try googling.
Pity Harry and Meghan didn’t want privacy for their £32 million wedding isn’t it. What a pair, pretending privacy ensures maximum publicity. Vogue magazine awaits. Appalling behaviour.
