Following on from this -it was just getting interesting. Someone posted about how Meghan called herself a feminist but hadn’t earned the title. I was interested to know how you earned the title- but the thread ended.

Is the jeans and belly shirt video the one where she’s cooking on a BBQ?

It’s not a sex tape but it’s quite raunchy. Obviously, she didn’t know then that she’d marry into royalty but I’m sure if she did...she wouldn’t have made the video.

It’s quite trashy.

BertrandRussell · 03/07/2019 17:41

I STILL want to know what was wrong with Harry’s appearance on Archie’s birthday.

But that’s just reasonable criticism and valid because she lives on public money, right? hmm

I've already told you that I consider it unfair to trawl through her life pre Harry. My only criticism of M (and H) is that imo they enjoy the money and status of being royals but aren't so keen on the obligations bit. Since they are both now publicly funded, it is now that I am concerned with.

Like I said, if you think a comment strays into personal attack territory, take it up with mnhq. They don't always spot posts which break rules until a poster reports it.

IWannaSeeHowItEnds · 03/07/2019 17:51

Bertrand, nothing was wrong with it, but he didn't bring a photo and tbh I think that's what I most people were interested in. Everyone likes to see a new baby. I think it would have been a nice thing to do.

Bluerussian · 03/07/2019 17:53

IWannaSeeHowitEnds, M&H will be doing more when Meghan's maternity leave is over.

Surely this is the crux of the matter.

I'm as bemused as the next at the public interest in the royal family, but it seems a bit quid-pro-quo - the public pays for their rather extravagant upkeep, and the royals do their public schtick.

They can't at once be entirely private entities and be funded by the Sovereign Grant, surely?

“They can't at once be entirely private entities and be funded by the Sovereign Grant, surely?“

No. In what ways are they entirely private entities

I love how everyone bangs on about protocol. There’s very very little protocol. The only genuine protocol that I know of is the easel thing which they did,

People seem to just compare with what the Cambridge’s did and whinge when it’s different. That’s nuts.

Given all the criticism slung at Meghan I think she might be wise not to reveal God parents. I can just see all the criticism now, why no family, why Hollywood friends, questioning the credentials of who they pick. Who wants that for their close circle? The palace may even have advised them that.

BertrandRussell · 03/07/2019 18:28

I though godparents were in the register- which is a public record. Could be wrong, though.

So that Harry press thing on Archie’s birthday. How did that break protocol?

OP posts:
LaurieMarlow · 03/07/2019 18:39

hen the downside is they have to please their royal fan

By what? Aping everything the Cambridge’s do? Opening your friends up to scrutiny? What if there’s no pleasing them, what then?

I also love the double standard. Kate’s allowed to spend more because she’s more important (declared on this thread)

But the expectation is that we get as much access to Archie as the Cambridge babies even though he’s s much more minor royal.

You couldn’t make this shit up if you tried.

LaurieMarlow · 03/07/2019 18:43

I thought it was 2.5 mill?

Anyway Cambridge’s spent 4 mill on their KP refurb.

But I guess that’s totally justified because we got a teeny bit more face in the baby photo and she posed on the steps of the Portland hours after pushing babies out of her vag.

That last bit is NOT protocol. Just FYI.

So they aren't going to reveal the names of Archie's godparents. And yes the Cambridges did before some people leap on that.

I really think Harry needs to have a good long think about whether he wants to remain a working royal with all the £££ and responsibility that comes with that.

Again their PR is just so bad.

And note - I have criticised Harry who I think personally is a bit of an idiot and has gotten away with a lot of bad behaviour in the past because of people's sadness over his mother's death.

JaimeBronde · 03/07/2019 18:55

I think the only thing Meghan & Harry are doing wrong is too much explaining things.
Isn't there the understanding within the RF of 'Never Explain, Never Complain'?

And sod trying to be different so you don't get compared to the Cambridges.
Just do the same or similar.
No one slated Fergie for doing similar things to Diana (as far as I can remember)

BertrandRussell · 03/07/2019 18:59

Does anyone know whether the godparents are a matter of public record? I thought they were.

So she should have done the hospital steps thing? That Mumsnet were so outraged that DofC did because it’s too much to expect from a woman who gave birth a couple of hours ago?

Agree Mauritius. The thing with the christening is just open contempt. The plebs are good enough to pay for their Eucalyptus infused wallpaper, £1 million couture wardrobe and their yoga studio, but not good enough to gaze on or know the baldest details of mile stones for the second coming of Christ they seem to think has landed in Windsor.

I’m not bothered about knowing or seeing any pictures. But the kind of people who take an interest in that sort of thing are the backbone of the monarchy and support them greatly so a couple of snaps and a paragraphs of text would have been nice. They’ve given that sort of person two fingers, the Grannies who collect royal memorabilia and knit Union Jack bobble hats.
