Reimbursed order but I’ve found it. Wrong to keep money?

I received notification that a package had been delivered. It hadn’t and I had proof (they’d taken a picture of a different front door to mine!).

I rang shop (a big international online trailer if that makes a difference) and they are refunding me the order (£175).

However yesterday evening, set out for little stroll and a few doors down - there’s my parcel!

Would you ring to update of keep? I know what the right thing to do is. I know what I would urge my children to do. I know this. But there is this slither of me that wants to keep the money.

I’m almost certain I’ll ring to update. Almost

Poor choice of wording in title

Of course it’s “wrong”! No doubt about that

I'd keep the money and the parcel

PlatoAteMySnozcumber · 30/06/2019 06:23

Hmm, agree that you should and if money wasn’t tight then I would update them. If I needed the money, I would keep it and consider it compensation for being inconvenienced.

CarrieBlu · 30/06/2019 06:26

I’ve been in this position. I reported it as I would have felt guilty otherwise, but the company gave me a £25 voucher, so that was a nice little payback.

UrsulaPandress · 30/06/2019 06:30

I'd tell them.

Karma's a bitch.

hidinginthenightgarden · 30/06/2019 06:32

It was an independant company I would tell them. If it was Tesco I would feel less inclined!

TixieLix · 30/06/2019 06:32

I'd update the company so that they stop the refund. Yes it would be lovely to have the extra money but basically it's theft if you keep it. I'm someone who believes if I do something bad, something bad will happen back to me (karma I guess) and I'd feel guilty. If this was one of my grown up DDs contemplating this I'd feel very disappointed in them.

steff13 · 30/06/2019 06:38

I'd call and tell them.

GotToGoMyOwnWay · 30/06/2019 06:39

I had similar happen to me at Christmas. 3 different companies. I notified each one of non delivery & then parcels turned up wrongly delivered. I informed all 3 of parcels turning up. Was told to keep replacements & refunds! This was - Victoria secret, urban outfitters & can’t remember the other one tho I think John Lewis.

gggrrrargh · 30/06/2019 06:40

Tell them, it's been resolved and it's theft

RamIt · 30/06/2019 06:41

Tell them otherwise the delivery driver could lose his job.

People don't seem to realise that these big companies employ ordinary people who have mortgages to pay and kids to feed. Making mistakes where a parcel is lost like that can be a dismissal offence dependent on history. If the customer calls to confirm that they ended up receiving it, then it's usually a slap on the wrist for misdelivering the parcel instead of a p45.

topcat2014 · 30/06/2019 06:41

You always get flexible ethics on mn. You know of course that you should tell them.

AdoreTheBeach · 30/06/2019 06:41

I’d let them know. That’s being honest. Truly believe in karma.

topcat2014 · 30/06/2019 06:42

It will be the supplier to Amazon that will be charged for your refund by the way.

Morgan12 · 30/06/2019 06:50

Depends, what's the company?

Amibeingdaft81 · 30/06/2019 06:51

It’s bit independent shop. In that case I wouldn’t hesitate, not for an instant

It’s not amazon

It’s an international online retailer

OP posts:
Amibeingdaft81 · 30/06/2019 06:52

It’s “not” an independent shop

OP posts:
Amibeingdaft81 · 30/06/2019 06:52

They said they wouldn’t pursue with delivery company because no point!

elvislives2012 · 30/06/2019 06:55

I had this. I ordered one bottle of gin from John Lewis and they sent four! I ummed and ahhed (love gin) but rang and told them. They thanked me for my honesty and told me to keep them!

AriadneesWeb · 30/06/2019 06:58

I’d keep it. It’s done now, you’ve been inconvenienced and it’ll be more hassle to try to correct it.

PurpleFlower1983 · 30/06/2019 06:59

I would tell them. I did this with a big company and I ended up with the refund and the item too.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 30/06/2019 07:00

Of course you should tell them.

Would you walk into a high street shop, pick up something worth £175 and walk out without paying for it, and feel fine about doing that? Really?

Andromeida59 · 30/06/2019 07:06

Of course you should tell them.

RoisinD · 30/06/2019 07:06

Of course they will persue it with the delivery company. They will not be out of pocket. It is theft if you keep the money no matter how some may try to justify, how big a company is, where they are based, your inconvenience etc. There is no hierarchy when it comes to theft it either is or it isn't and to keep the money with no attempt to return clearly is.

Morgan12 · 30/06/2019 07:09

Can you not just tell us the company? Surely naming a company isn't outing?
