To be contemplating throwing something at this kid/his mother?

So, it's Saturday morning. I'm looking after my niece which means taking her to ballet/tap/modern classes.

You know what it's like, but of a rush most of the time and then inexplicably there is always a big waiting time in the middle. The 'lobby' waiting room doesn't have enough chairs and kids flow in and out constantly at the changeover of classes.

There are always a few reluctant siblings hanging around too. Usually getting homework done etc.

Tolerable if not exactly thrilling/luxurious.

BUT this morning a mother has just swanned in with her son (sibling of a dancer) and parked him in the waiting room WITH HIS GUITAR.

The kid's about 7 and Based on his competence and the sound he's making i would estimate has been learning guitar for approximately 30 seconds.

AIBU to want to throw something at him/throw the guitar through the window and scream in the mother's face?

Ugh practice is definitely a thing that should be done in your house!

Can you wait somewhere else?

Junowhat · 29/06/2019 09:55

Be grateful its not violin!

But no, ywnbu

soupforbrains · 29/06/2019 09:56

Sadly not, for the very small kids like my niece, you have to stay on site and this is the only space which isn't a dance studio.

I swear te kid hasn't played a single in tune note, which is odd because I'm almost certain the guitar itself is actually tuned correctly.

Another mother just arrived during a brief reprieve. When he started playing again her head shot up. We have shared a 'look'.

Oh my god. Now the MOTHER appears to be trying to teach herself...

WTAF is wrong with some people?

Because I couldn’t be bothered with the argument I’d probably not say anything but I’d contact the provider and ask them to put a stop to it. Then next week I’d be able to say ‘Sorry, they’ve stopped allowing music practise during waiting time.

Twats.

Some people just have absolutely no awareness. Or maybe she is aware of how unreasonable it is and she just doesn't give a shit/is counting on other people not to challenge her.

This is why my lifelong dream has been to live in a beautiful secluded cottage on the coast.

BarkandCheese · 29/06/2019 10:06

You need to channel your inner John Belushi.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 29/06/2019 10:07

Ywbu to throw something, when guitar strings make an excellent garotte.
Instrument practice should be done at home. I pity the neighbors of that family.

soupforbrains · 29/06/2019 10:08

Maybe I'll get up and start doing some interpretive dance a la Pan's People....

Take the guitar off the kid, open the door, throw guitar outside, shut the door, sit back down and give the mother the stink eye

Lizzie3869 · 29/06/2019 10:18

YANBU. That's so inconsiderate on the part of the mum. Whatever happened to bringing a book for yourself and some colouring books or, these an iPad with headphones, for your DC? Hmm

HairyDogsInUnusualPlaces · 29/06/2019 10:24

Start clapping along, not quite in time and warbling some off key harmonies. Close your eyes, sway, really feel the vibe. I suspect he will soon stop. Grin

itsallgoingsouth · 29/06/2019 10:27

Smash the guitar on the floor a la Pete Townshend of The Who.

KurriKurri · 29/06/2019 10:33

Ask him if he knows Stairway to Heaven.

Lipz · 29/06/2019 10:34

Oh God, that's painful. I don't go anywhere anymore without earphones , everyone just seems to be making loud rackets. I'm currently experiencing the 6year old from next door bouncing on the trampoline blowing into a tin whistle, I had it for 5 hours yesterday, ended up coming inside. when I seen the rain this morning I thought yeah they won't be out, but sadly they are in the garden all weathers. Then it started at 7.30am

KurriKurri · 29/06/2019 10:36

Or sing 'Kumbaya' loudly as soon as he starts palying

Whathappenedtooursummer · 29/06/2019 10:37

Put the shark song on ya phone..

soupforbrains · 29/06/2019 10:38

The mother has actually gone. She'll left about 10 minutes ago.

She has left the boy and guitar. 🤬

Jesus, some people have zero self awareness. It’s so strange, I’d feel far too awkward if my DC were even talking too loudly in that sort of situation never mind playing guitar (badly).

Lizzie3869 · 29/06/2019 10:40

Put the shark song on ya phone..

Oh please no, for some reason that song irrationally gives me the rage. 🤣🤣

Fromage · 29/06/2019 10:41

Teach him 'smack my bitch up'

Fromage · 29/06/2019 10:41

I mean, I've not idea how you would do that on a guitar but I'm sure youtube will help.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 29/06/2019 10:43

That’s bad. But as someone said, just be glad it’s not a violin.

Maybe a room-clearing fart would do the trick?

ReasonablyIntelligent · 29/06/2019 10:48

Honestly I'd actually say something.
I'm not a confrontational person in the slightest but for some reason "disturbing the peace" really pushes my buttons and I've been known to ask people on trains to stop playing their music out loud and the like

soupforbrains · 29/06/2019 10:48

I have tried to summon a fart but sadly I appear to be out of gas.

Baby shark would sadly not so the trick as hey use it as a warm up in the acro classes so we already hear the strains of that particular ditty.

Mother has now returned. With a friend.

Her friend is now teaching HERSELF the guitar

For actual Fuck's sake I am genuinely the closest to losing my shit at a stranger I have ever been.
