To be contemplating throwing something at this kid/his mother?

So, it's Saturday morning. I'm looking after my niece which means taking her to ballet/tap/modern classes.

You know what it's like, but of a rush most of the time and then inexplicably there is always a big waiting time in the middle. The 'lobby' waiting room doesn't have enough chairs and kids flow in and out constantly at the changeover of classes.

There are always a few reluctant siblings hanging around too. Usually getting homework done etc.

Tolerable if not exactly thrilling/luxurious.

BUT this morning a mother has just swanned in with her son (sibling of a dancer) and parked him in the waiting room WITH HIS GUITAR.

The kid's about 7 and Based on his competence and the sound he's making i would estimate has been learning guitar for approximately 30 seconds.

AIBU to want to throw something at him/throw the guitar through the window and scream in the mother's face?

Have you logged it with 101?

@Jeremybearimybaby, do they do guitar lessons? With a friend and family discount?

Yabbers · 29/06/2019 13:42

Poor kid, how nice a grown man bullying a child

It’s ok, it’s allowed because nobody likes the mum.

foreverhanging · 29/06/2019 13:47

Surely he's a ...... Guitar Hero

ConcreteUnderpants · 29/06/2019 14:05

No just a self entitled mum who thinks everyone should think her kids are the best children ever.

Oh I see, so forget the polite requests and launch straight into the angry bullying and threats. What a fabulous bunch of morons.

ConcreteUnderpants · 29/06/2019 14:13

Dear MN
Was in a waiting room yesterday with my young son. He was nervous so bought his most treasure possession - a guitar which his father had just started teaching him before he tragically died of cancer last week.
Minding our own business and carefully practicing what his dear departed dad had taught him when a huge angry aggressive man came up to him. He loudly shouted at him and threatened to destroy his father's gift. We were very scared and utterly shocked at this unprovoked bullying attack.

No one asked us to stop it said anything to us, but there was also a very nasty woman there who spent the whole time huffing and puffing and giving me evil looks and was on her phone the whole time, completely ignoring her niece.

I know IABU as that's totally acceptable behaviour, right?

Lizzie3869 · 29/06/2019 14:17

I think she'd get a lot of YABUs in reply to an OP like that.

teddyclown · 29/06/2019 14:21

Ask him if he can play 'Over the Hills and Far Away'

Oh give over. Hmm Talk about dramatic.

soupforbrains · 29/06/2019 14:25

I'm not going to waste my energy arguing over the aggressive man/buying comments.

But for the record he touched only the guitar neck. The hold was in no way harmed and no words were directed at the child. Only the mother.

Somebody asked about the racist thing. The mother is, I believe, Korean but nothing in the conversation was said about that nor was anything in the conversation caused by or aimed at her race in any way.

Those saying about polite requests are entirely correct though and I absolutely should have stood up before it reached snapping point for Hero Dad, or anyone else. It could and probably should have been handled better.

😂 actually cracking up at some of the melodrama here.

My niece was in her dance classes, so obviously I was indeed ignoring her. Would be a bit weird if I followed her round the dance studio asking if she was ok through the gallops and skips. 🙄😂

Hero dad throttled a guitar!!
I love him!!

Whynotnowbaby · 29/06/2019 21:19

I can’t believe how precious some of you are. No, it’s not ok for someone to be creating a racket like that, especially not in that sort of small space. (No matter what sob story may be -but probably isn’t- attached to doing so. The receptionist should have stepped in and spoken to the mum as soon as she became aware of what was going on. Perhaps people like op should have spoken up sooner but it is human nature to give people the benefit of the doubt and assume they won’t go on for ages. The dad did nothing wrong IMO if they are that unaware they need to be told very firmly what the problem is.

Trying not to disturb the family's film by pissing myself here

boble1 · 29/06/2019 22:14

@soupforbrains

Hi, I mentioned why did she say the racist bit.

I was surprised she said that because I've read the whole post and not once did you mention her race. It's not as if it's even relevant to her guitar and son.

I just thought it was peculiar that she would say you were being racist. That was pretty low of her.

theWarOnPeace · 29/06/2019 22:20

Does this dance place take place in an old historic building in central London? This is kind of familiar, and waiting (on a different day) squished in with obnoxious parents plus younger siblings etc does my head in! I spend a fortune each week escaping to coffee shops, because even sitting with headphones on I can hear them practicing music, playing on tablets with no earphones, or whining and having annoyingly precocious conversations with their parents. Arggg. Getting stressed just thinking about it. Roll on end of July!

AhhhHereItGoes · 29/06/2019 22:51

Should've made a bonfire, said "Allow me?" And threw it in a la Branch in Trolls.

Practice is for home/garage - not somewhere they can torture the general public with it.

soupforbrains · 30/06/2019 00:30

@boble1 no it had no context it was entirely random and actually made me do a bit of a snort laugh at the time because it was so ridiculous I had mental images of the ali g sketches

@theWarOnPeace nope although seemingly similar to your incarceration experience this dance class/school is in Hampshire.

YANBU. May I refer to Wayne’s world (make make similar to no stairway to heaven sign) ‘read the sign please sir’
If not just take it out his hands and say ‘leave it to the pros, huni’
It’s harsh but they have to be told.

boble1 · 30/06/2019 01:00

@soupforbrains

Absolutely irrelevant and ridiculous of the lady!

She probably uses that line on everyone!

You see, THIS is why I always carry an emergency recorder...

PeachesPlumsPears · 30/06/2019 05:52

Was just buying Hero Dad a coffee.

Are you and hero man single? How is the coffee going? This could be the start of a great romance story!

^^ Please answer this question OP Wink

😂😂

@PeachesPlumsPears sorry I hadn't seen that message. I am single yes, but I believe Hero Dad is happily married. Sorry but no movie romance here.

My son is 5 he got a guitar for his birthday. He cant play a note and im looking into lessons for him. he asked to take it with us on a day out the other day. Its bad enough i have to hear it in the house i wouldnt dream of putting others threw this. I took it off him the other day and told him it was sent to get cleaned at the guitar cleaning shop lol. In my defence i had a bug was up all night sick and wanted him to play outside. Was heartbroken when he spotted it. Yanbu
