To ask how you would spend your time if you had enough money not to need to work

Let’s imagine you came into some money (doesn’t matter how, but legally), which put you in a position to pay off any debts and mortgage, buy a house outright if you don’t already own one, and provide you with a household income similar to what you currently have. Or more if you’re skint.

Basically, you have enough income to live comfortably, for the rest of your life, without needing to work.

Let’s assume you are healthy.

What would you spend your time doing?

I personally wouldn’t give up work, however I may request to go on reduced hours to fit in extra holidays abroad etc..

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 27/06/2019 17:29

Once my kids have reached independent age, in terms of education, property, etc... myself and dh will be buying a property in Turkey on retirement.

EssentialHummus · 27/06/2019 17:29

This is me(ish) and I work. Can’t help myself.

Ginger1982 · 27/06/2019 17:30

I would put money aside so that DS could have a good start to adult life if he wanted it and then I would buy some dogs and horses!

TheDarkPassenger · 27/06/2019 17:30

I think I would still work. My job is very rewarding

londonloves · 27/06/2019 17:31

I would study, I would do degree after degree in things that I'm interested in like history and politics and philosophy. And read books all day in coffee shops.

Knitwit99 · 27/06/2019 17:31

Some time volunteering.
The rest crafting, reading and swimming in the sea.

mrsw2 · 27/06/2019 17:31

Travel , study , volunteer.

ThomasRichard · 27/06/2019 17:32

Right now? Sleep. Stupid hay fever. If my newfound wealth also got rid of the hay fever I think I’d still want to work.

mrsw2 · 27/06/2019 17:33

PS there's no way I would work Smile

shedid · 27/06/2019 17:33

I'd get a load of big dogs and walk them several times a day Wink

Confusednewmum1 · 27/06/2019 17:33

Travel and when home be a dog walker

aPengTing · 27/06/2019 17:34

Study archeology and travel the world being a volunteer on digs and excavations.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 27/06/2019 17:34

I would never run out of stuff to do 😃 id do all the stuff I enjoy:

Really go for it in my business (only ever want to work part time though so not huge plans)
Gym
Home improvements
Crafts - quilting, embroidery, painting, sketching, photo albums, peg doll painting, anything!
Get more pen pals - currently have 2
See friends and family loads
Take the kids on amazing days out whenever possible
Bake every day
Volunteer - homestart, local wildlife trust, beach cleans
Travel - buy an eco campervan is the current dream

Chocolategirl79 · 27/06/2019 17:35

I'd sleep (am knackered) and then gently potter in the garden, then swim and walk and go to the beach and see friends and drink nice coffee for the whole summer. This is my current fantasy. Then if I got bored, I'd reconsider and do something with no pressure and no idiots.

Firstimpressionsofearth · 27/06/2019 17:38

Lots of animals, donkey, chickens, ducks, goats, rabbits.

If that didn't keep me busy or once kids are adults I'd open a querky coffee shop/bar.

ComeTheFuck0nBridget · 27/06/2019 17:39

Study! I'd love to do a degree and eventual phd in a subject I enjoy just for fun.

Maybe set up a little craft business, again just for fun. Not worried about making money but just making things I enjoy and selling them to make room to make more

Go swimming loads.

Go out for lunch and/or coffee most days.

Get my eyelashes tinted every month.

Get a big dog that I don't have time to walk at the minute.

I am this person and to be honest, I’m getting very bored now the kids are getting older. The problem is that everybody else is at work all day so I’ve nobody to hang out with! I’m probably going to volunteer or start studying just to have something to do!!

managedmis · 27/06/2019 17:39

Cook, Garden, cycle, read

managedmis · 27/06/2019 17:40

Ooh yes I'd get a dog

Watto1 · 27/06/2019 17:40

If it happened before this coming Monday, I would spend a fortnight watching Wimbledon! Then I’d spend time sorting out this pigsty of a house which sadly gets a bit neglected while I’m working. I’d also sort out the garden. I could happily be a lady that lunches for some considerable time. I’d need to talk a few friends into packing their jobs in to join me though. Travelling appeals; a month or so on a tropical beach would be nice!

I suspect I might get a bit bored though after about 6 months. There’s only so many episodes of Homes Under The Hammer to watch!

gamerchick · 27/06/2019 17:41

I'd do my voluntary job full time, I wish I had more time to put into it. Very rewarding.
