Rich people = same car

To wonder why all the loaded people at my kids’ school drive the same car - Range Rover/ Land Rover? Surely there are more choices to spend money on?? They are like sheep!

I suppose wealth is a relative term, but they seem well to do to me.

Teateaandmoretea · 25/06/2019 20:25

YABU and naive OP to think you can tell how well off they are by the car they drive. Some people prioritise cars and others couldn't care less.

Longdistance · 25/06/2019 20:25

Well, I work somewhere where there are wealthy people. I’ve seen them pick their kids up in Ferrari’s, Lamborghini’s, Bentley’s, Tesla’s, Maserati’s. Yes, some drive bangers, maybe they are happy with their car choice 🤷🏼‍♀️

Grasspigeons · 25/06/2019 20:27

I feel a bit aggrieved at the lack of eco credentials and the amount of space they take up.

I also know the wrong type of rich people. The rich people I know have multiple cars for all different uses.

Beekeeper1 · 25/06/2019 20:30

Common, vulgar, lacking in identity or individuality, all look the same...
As for the cars themselves - gas guzzling, environmentally destructive penis extensions.
Only dead fish flow with the stream...

Titsywoo · 25/06/2019 20:31

I'm pretty rich (probably considered well off but you know what I mean!) and I drive a 14 year old audi. I refuse to spend loads of money on a car. We work on banganomics - we drive them till they go bang then get another 2nd hand one Grin.

isadoradancing · 25/06/2019 20:32

We have ours because we live in Switzerland so we drive up a lot of mountains; no sheep to follow more goats 🙄

ContinuityError · 25/06/2019 20:32

I know two fabulously wealthy people - one (old money) has an Evoque, the other (earned it herself) buys bottom of the shop from the auctions.

If I wanted a practical and reliable 4x4 I’d buy an old Land Cruiser or an G Wagon. Or maybe a Unimog.

IdentifyasTired · 25/06/2019 20:33

The only time I've been in a Range Rover I was rather underwhelmed. Seemed a little small and plastic on the inside. It was a RR Sport however so maybe not a high spec. I had expected more for the money.

I know a few people who drive them. All are friendly, down to earth non-flashy people. I don't judge people on what car they drive, expensive or not.

ForalltheSaints · 25/06/2019 20:34

Just be happy you are not so sad as those people. If it were me then large cars like those would be the subject of a separate driving test, which would reduce numbers of those by a large amount. No-one wants to have to take their driving test twice.

Freudianslip1 · 25/06/2019 20:39

I'm always shocked that people chose them (so necessary for the school run) as they are so expensive to fuel.

NCforthis2019 · 25/06/2019 20:43

Wtf - since when has a RR been a car for the wealthy? It’s hard a Bentley 4-wheel or a Cayenne is it? Hardly a Phantom either. A RR is just a car. Maybe they bought second hand? Anyway - they can spend their money how they like. People just like them maybe?

sheshootssheimplores · 25/06/2019 20:44

The extremely rich people i know drive a Volvo and a Tesla.

BackBoiler · 25/06/2019 20:51

GirlFliesHome if you see the ideal shoes in sainsburys why not! Plus she might not be so rich is she was more extravagant

OhTheRoses · 25/06/2019 20:58

I saw an amazing car today. It was pristine, bright yellow and a Ford Cortina. Probably 1960s. I looked twice, it looked iconic, and funnily enough it had a bit of class.

GirlFliesHome · 25/06/2019 21:02

Oh I am not criticising, trust me. My friend is one of life's treasures.....she knows she is rich beyond measure, but honestly does not care. She works her guts out on minimum wage as a carer. (and donates her salary back to the local hospice). She does not parade and does not boast. She gives shed loads to charity anonymously. She is worth well over 10 million, and no-one would ever know, unless you knew.

ContinuityError · 25/06/2019 21:04

It’s hard a Bentley 4-wheel or a Cayenne is it?

You do realise that Cayennes and Range Rovers are around the same price?

blackcat2345 · 25/06/2019 21:05

Love a "Tina"!

Provincialbelle · 25/06/2019 21:11

They handle far worse than normal sedans, are useless in the snow unless you have off road tyres, are grossly uneconomical and no safer than a proper sedan. But people like status and fool themselves into thinking they’re safer

Karwomannghia · 25/06/2019 21:14

I love classic cars as my first love and if I had a lot of money and no family to think of I’d have a Karmann Ghia, an E type or a Cadillac, or even a Nissan figaro but have a LR because to me it is the best looking 7 seater out there and lovely to drive plus amazing customer service where I got mine. I’ve basically got the cheapest 7 seater and it doesn’t even have automatic headlights but does have heated seats as standard. They have good priorities!

TastingTheRainbow · 25/06/2019 21:16

I want to know where all these “wealthy” people driving old bangers are?

As part of my job I have been in the homes of some very wealthy people, including premiership footballers, and not one had an old banger parked outside but usually a fleet of sports cats / range rovers and bentleys.

Onceuponacheesecake · 25/06/2019 21:19

Not my type. They're a big oversized box that aren't that roomy on the inside. It seems to be the entitled persons car around here. I see the school mums park up on the pavement and hang out of the window smoking their fags. Hmm

gettingtherequickly · 25/06/2019 21:20

Yes premiership footballers will spend money on cars.
People who remember the death duties in the 60s and 70s destroying family wealth will invest more sensibly.

CharlotteCollinsneeLucas · 25/06/2019 21:21

It's literally an armchair on wheels

Brilliant! I'd love to see that...

wijjjy · 25/06/2019 21:21

The richer drive Mercedes G class to show off.
