I'm on the cusp of starting to make and sell my own handmade ice cream at farmers markets etc and I'll be selling from a traditional style ice cream bike. I don't do 'standard' flavours, so you'd find flavours like Eton Mess, Peanut Butter & Caramel or Rhubarb Crumble, plus a vegan flavour / sorbet.

Recipes are developed and tested, kitchen is being modified to keep environmental health happy and the bike is awaiting delivery. But - I need a name for my business! Without it I can't set up my website etc...

I need something that suggests

  • premium quality
  • something that's a bit different to the norm
  • possibly a hint at the environmental / zero waste ethos

I'm in Wales but I've been avoiding place related names as I want the option to expand in future, and I can't be certain that the business will always be bike-based so I've been avoiding explicitly bike-related names.

Possibly something like Creamery, The Scoop, The Project, The _ Ice Cream Co but I'm very open to suggestions! Help please hivemind...

How about Hokey-Pokey Ice cream Co. or Hokey Pokey Creamery or Hokey Pokey handmade ices or something along those lines? The hokey pokey. En were the original sellers of ice cream in Victorian times from their carts.

I like the suggestion of Jones the Ice.

There used to be an ice cream parlour in a town near me called Milky Dreams...

Something with the words Gelato and Margherita (daisy)?

Something you could do for inspiration is put “icecream shop New York” on Google maps and then see what they’re all called, maybe one of them will give you a great idea. (New York or any other city, obviously)

herculepoirot2 · 26/06/2019 19:50

I would choose a generic name: Radley’s, Eastman’s, Brown’s, Langley’s etc. and I would add “Ices” or “Ice-cream” after it.

Nothing twee - I agree with PP.

Good luck op

AnotherEmma · 26/06/2019 20:04

What's your first name? Would it work with Gelato? eg Emma's Gelato...

I think Gelato works because it fits the brand you're going for.

However... "plus a vegan flavour / sorbet" - um please tell me you're planning to offer more than one vegan option! Plenty of non-vegans like sorbet. And the vegans and people with dairy allergy or lactose intolerance will appreciate it!

It might be of interest to know that there's an artisan ice cream place I've been to that initially wasn't going to do vanilla as it was too boring and conventional, but ended up having to sell it as that's what a major chunk of their client base wanted to eat.

growlingbear · 26/06/2019 21:23

@Jet, I think that too. A measure of an ice cream shop is how good their vanilla tastes. Perfecting the basics is the sign of someone who takes their food seriously.
