How are people not more outraged? And no, tourists do not visit the UK specifically because of the royal family.

"This year, 320,000 people were recorded as homeless in Britain"

Let’s hope the cleaner (who apparently “ruined” the carpet thus requiring the whole thing to be ripped up and replaced entirely) doesn’t use Brillo pads on the bath

JaimeBronde · 30/06/2019 16:32

HM's 'gold' piano was given to Queen Victoria in 1856 so it's a family heirloom & May even belong to the Crown rather than HM personally.
And the piano is gilded, which is decorated with gold leaf, painted & varnished.

Feelingsad19 · 30/06/2019 16:36

And the copper bath was gifted to the Sussexes by the public and belongs to the crown as part of the Windsor Estate. It may well become a family heirloom.

BertrandRussell · 30/06/2019 16:36

“Am I racist?”

I don’t know!

UnboxingSoon · 30/06/2019 16:42

every single day of the week for about five years there was a thread on here slagging off kate middleton. I think with every passing pregnancy and now being the mother of three ''real'' royals, she is accepted. But it took a long time.

What's interesting as well is that you cannot fucking win and it's no wonder Chelsea Davies said no thank you to Harry. The Middletons didn't put a foot wrong and they were still shredded by the media.

dreamyspires · 30/06/2019 16:57

Oh dear the poor things, my heart bleeds for them. Fancy, some people take issue with them. Wonder why.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 30/06/2019 17:10

If (Anne and Philip) were plebs they'd just be classed as rude

I don't deny some of the hard work they've both done, but regarding rudeness, we don't have to "listen to rumours" about these two - the rudeness has been right there to see and hear. Philip in particular has been one of the worst racists of the lot; ditto Margaret, who I've met personally and whose behaviour was downright offensive

It's entitlement again ... the RF know perfectly well their position's secure for now, so some go right on with the boorish behaviour, hypocrisy and all the rest, tossing an occasional bone of a photoshoot or whatever in the hope it'll keep the masses content

The really worrying thing is that it seems to work ...

Ghanagirl · 30/06/2019 17:15

@floraloctopus
I’m not sure kids friendships are lovely,
Parents that I speak to are a diverse group but small issues with certain teachers who are quite young but despite all the “diversity” training they attend they still seem to pigeonhole kids.
I grew up in the shires and racism was in your face.
NF spray painted outside our house etc...

LaurieMarlow · 30/06/2019 17:22

That doesn’t negate anyone’s point. The royals surround themselves with luxury goods, not necessarily funded from their own wallets. A 5k gold bath is absolutely par for the course.

To expect the Sussexes to do an ikea fit out is ridiculous.

yolofish · 30/06/2019 17:25

Back early this morning, ghanagirl described me as a racist arsehole because I suspect that Meghan may be one of those people 'who just can't keep staff'.

I really really cba to argue whether or not this is racist of me; I dont think Barack and Michele ever had a problem with keeping staff at the White House, basically because they seem like kind people who respect the work that others do. Can the orange one and Melania keep their staff? I dont know, I suspect they might have a much higher staff turnover than the Obamas, simply because they have no manners and sense of entitlement which doesnt go down well with people.

FTR I think Meghan is absolutely stunningly beautiful, but I suspect she might be quite hard work, whether to live with or work for.

I dont think any of this makes me a racist arsehole, more someone who watches people.

BertrandRussell · 30/06/2019 17:29

“more someone who watches people.”

But how can you accurately “watch” someone when all you see of them is contextless snippets filtered through the media?

imamearcat · 30/06/2019 17:30

I don't understand this. If the money comes from the crown estate then it's not tax payers money is it? 🤷‍♀️

GotToGoMyOwnWay · 30/06/2019 17:34

How on earth did a thread about Harry & Meghan’s renovations end up as posters saying this was a racist thread about Meghan? This thread was about the two of them. Not just Meghan. It’s ridiculous that we can never ever have meaningful debate when it comes to Harry & Meghan because of the same posters spoiling it for everyone else.

yolofish · 30/06/2019 17:46

bertrand ok yes, I should have said watched through a filter, fair play to you - but then I probably know just as much about her as anyone else on this thread, whose opinions are probably being formed through the same filter. IMO, she is one of those people who are absolutely wonderful when it's all going right (however she perceives it) but I think she probably has the ability to lose the plot quite quickly when she's not happy. It could well be an actor thing, I've seen it a lot through work - ego massage is the way to go.

ScreamingValenta · 30/06/2019 17:48

I don't think the Royals work particularly hard. I include the Queen in that statement. They get chauffeured to events and appearances, being fully briefed beforehand on what to say; they get fawned over and treated to the best of whatever the place has to offer; then they get chauffeured back home to palaces to be waited on hand and foot. They don't even have to dress themselves in the morning; let alone set to with the housework after a day's 'work'. Then they have months off over the summer and at Christmas. The worst they might suffer is a bit of boredom. That's not 'work'.

BertrandRussell · 30/06/2019 17:51

“It’s ridiculous that we can never ever have meaningful debate when it comes to Harry & Meghan”

But surely you can’t have a “meaningful debate” about M&H without including her race and the potential reaction to it?

Feelingsad19 · 30/06/2019 17:58

But surely you can’t have a “meaningful debate” about M&H without including her race and the potential reaction to it?

Well, yes, I think you can. And if you can’t then surely that is your problem?

findingmyfeet12 · 30/06/2019 18:05

I don't think a £5000 bath is ott for senior royals. If the plebs want royals to represent them at state functions and to be there to impress the Saudis and the Trumps then they have to fork out for these people to have this kind of lifestyle.

Let's face it, the pomp and ceremony is all they offer. Without that, there isn't much else. Perhaps you think W, H and Charles' company is of interest to world leaders if it weren't for them being mega rich royals.

Like it or not, if you want a monarchy, then H&M are of interest globally. Giving them a £5000 bath and a posh house cements their position.

We don't have the Daily Mail reporting on Anne's house but do people honestly think a £5000 bath is unrealistic for her? She probably has 3.

Happysummer2020 · 30/06/2019 18:21

The Royals are ridiculously entitled and privileged and that's a bigger issue but being born into it and knowing no better excuses you to a degree.

It's just a bit galling to see newcomers from normal backgrounds adopting that same entlement so quickly. A 5,000 copper bath is very tacky.

You can't do that and by the same token call yourself a humanitarian. That's BS.

findingmyfeet12 · 30/06/2019 18:30

A £5000 bath is more than within the budget of anyone within Harry's social circle. Any of his former girlfriends would have that kind of money and wouldn't have thought themselves lucky to have it as a "newcomer". You didn't expect him to have married an ordinary girl from a suburban neighbourhood did you?

Within that social circle Harry's wealth is not even particularly impressive.

Is it especially galling for MM to have it or would you be annoyed at his former girlfriends or KM too?

BertrandRussell · 30/06/2019 18:35

“Well, yes, I think you can. And if you can’t then surely that is your problem?“

So what meaningful things do you think it’s OK to discuss?

C8H10N4O2 · 30/06/2019 19:34

Meghan may be one of those people 'who just can't keep staff'.

What do you base this on? And from which source?

allibaby · 30/06/2019 19:34

@ChardonnaysPrettySister yep so it's just as well it's highly unlikely that Harry and Meghan will ever be on their hands and knees giving it a good scrub Wink
I don't envy the cleaner Grin

Ghanagirl · 30/06/2019 19:55

@allibaby
I’m interested to know what you think is “genuine racism* as you shut down anything which you feel isn’t.
I don’t want this thread deleted at all It’s eye opening.
Is your definition of racism KKK burning crosses on black families lawns or being made to sit at the back of the bus or those signs that greeted Windrush generation stating “no blacks, no Irish or dogs”?
I’m trying to understand your view point

Happysummer2020 · 30/06/2019 19:57

Is it especially galling for MM to have it or would you be annoyed at his former girlfriends or KM too?

It's galling for any fully formed adult who presents themselves as a humanitarian. I'm equally disgusted that KM pulled out a perfectly good kitchen at Anmer House and had it replaced at huge cost.

Wouldn't you be????
