How are people not more outraged? And no, tourists do not visit the UK specifically because of the royal family.

"This year, 320,000 people were recorded as homeless in Britain"

I skipped to the end to see why the thread was so long after a post on the first page explained that it wasn't funded by the tax payer. I'm a bit baffled at how we are now talking about racism. I guess I will have to read the full thread.

Ghanagirl · 30/06/2019 15:01

@allibaby
I never said all I said a lot but of course you didn’t read post because you just wanted to bite back without any consideration.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 30/06/2019 15:02

Good luck LivingDeadGirlUK

VictoriaBun · 30/06/2019 15:02

Just rewatched Harry announcing the birth and he 100% says they have had a boy.

Ghanagirl · 30/06/2019 15:07

@CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook
Of course black people have differences in opinion but with your last post you’ve proven my point that you seem to be seeking approval from those who insist that the treatment of Meghan has a lot to do with her race.
I don’t have a chip on my shoulder but I do have a healthy dose of self respect which I’m hoping will be passed onto my children by not letting people get away with racism even if it’s “just” unconscious bias.

Ghanagirl · 30/06/2019 15:08

has nothing to do with

floraloctopus · 30/06/2019 15:13

I live in beautiful 4 bedroom house in a London suburb, great DH beautiful kind smart children but racism still infiltrates our lives.

Out of interest, does that make the racism worse? A black family live near us, their DS is my DS's class and his mum was saying that they get racist comments from people who think that black people shouldn't be living in a half million pound house in a town where average houses are about 250k-300k.

allibaby · 30/06/2019 15:15

And at @Ghanagirl I'm really glad that you call people out on racism, we all should be doing that but I'm afraid you seem to mix up dislike with racism and it reduces what racism is IMHO.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 30/06/2019 15:23

You've proven my point that you seem to be seeking approval from those who insist that the treatment of Meghan has a lot to do with her race.

So if I disagree with you I must be seeking approval from other posters?

Some posters have agreed with you, and you have affirmed their posts. Were you 'seeking their approval' too then? As opposed to publishing your own opinion?.

By your own standard of reasoning you obviously were.

You know I find it ironic actually. There I am posting and people have had their counter arguments, some quite robustly disagreeing. But the one personal attack comes from a so called sister. One who has a nice house and family. I don't have a nice house, but you sound miserable despite having achieved a lot.

I disagree with you.

Get. Over. It.

Bluestitch · 30/06/2019 15:23

Ghanagirl what criticism could somebody give of MM that you wouldn't call racist please? I'm interested to know because at present it appears any questioning, scrutiny or negative view is deemed racist by you.

BertrandRussell · 30/06/2019 15:24

I think discussing racism with reference to Meghan is incredibly useful. We need to realise that there is more to racism than shouting “Go back to your own country” refusing to let black people stay in our bed and breakfasts or not promoting them at work. It’s like sexism- it doesn’t stop just because there is legislation in place and we’ve had a woman prime minister. There is so much subtle- practically imperceptible - sexism and racism in our society. The nuances of language used about prominent black people-particularly black women is telling. I hold no brief for Diane Abbott, for example- but she is never criticised without an undercurrent of “above her station” being “uppity”. And the same is true of Meghan. She has never been deferential enough.

LaurieMarlow · 30/06/2019 15:31

The racism point is interesting. No one’s saying there are openly racist comments in this thread, the issue is much more complex than that.

I think there are lots of people who’d never dream of making an openly racist comment but who are on some, perhaps not even conscious level, uncomfortable with a mixed race person being lifted to an exalted position as Meghan has been.

It’s less about classic racism and more about feelings of white entitlement to the top spots.

I doubt people even recognise these feelings in themselves, they seem to be manifest in picking perfectly acceptable behaviour to bits.

UnboxingSoon · 30/06/2019 15:42

Do people forget how hated and berated kate was?

allibaby · 30/06/2019 15:45

I'm afraid I have to disagree.
There are far too many people looking for racist undertones in everything where there is none.
Meghan is gorgeous, she's also mixed race, neither of those things makes her exempt from criticism or people just not liking her.

allibaby · 30/06/2019 15:46

@UnboxingSoon.
I don't think people have forgotten, it just doesn't fit in with their agendas.

RonnieScotts · 30/06/2019 15:47

Rumours of a £5000 copper bath, that's very Hollywood and over the top (I wonder what the queen would make if that!)

She really likes to splash the cash does Meghan! The writing was on the wall when she deemed it appropriate to wear an gown worth an eye-watering £56 000 for her engagement photos - almost double the average salary in the uk (compared to Kate's £300 dress that has been reworn since)

LaurieMarlow · 30/06/2019 15:48

I don’t recall Kate being berated nearly as much. Some criticism of her waiting around and not having a proper job, bitchy in many ways but not without grounds.

There’s a thread on here every week about something Meghan is supposed to have done.

LaurieMarlow · 30/06/2019 15:52

But Kate has tonnes of expensive clothes.

LaurieMarlow · 30/06/2019 16:08

I’d say that barely registered with the Queen. Do people think she decks the palaces out in ikea or something? Confused Of course she doesn’t.

Feelingsad19 · 30/06/2019 16:10

Considering the Queen owns a gold piano I’d say they were birds of a feather!

PineappleFwitters · 30/06/2019 16:12

The idea that the Queen is frugal is hilarious. This is definitely the sitting room of a thrifty woman!

AIBU to think Harry and Meghan are taking the piss?
allibaby · 30/06/2019 16:22

Those copper baths look fantastic but I don't think I would like the feel of copper on my skin.
I've never had a copper bath though so who knows?

OhDearGodLookAtThisMess · 30/06/2019 16:24

I think Diane Abbot is out-of-her-depth as a politician. I think the same thing about Teresa May.
I think Michelle Obama is one of the most fabulous women on the planet and knocks all other First Ladies into a cocked hat.
I think Meghan (and Harry) have been ill-advised recently, and are courting disaster with such apparent displays of ostentation (if one believes the press coverage); I also thought the same about Sarah Ferguson and Andrew years ago.
Am I racist?

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 30/06/2019 16:25

That copper bath will be hell to clean.

dreamyspires · 30/06/2019 16:28

Just rewatched Harry announcing the birth and he 100% says they have had a boy.
That wasn’t the issue was it? he never used the word son. Who cares anyway, time they all went.
