I rather like that, MrsCrane.

gamerwidow · 24/06/2019 17:06

That can’t be legal. I bet they don’t gave planning permission for that as a separate flat. What a load of thieving arseholes there are out there. Who in good conscience good take money from people to live there.

kmc1111 · 24/06/2019 17:11

Eh, I’d have happy with this when I was young. I lived in similar sized flats that had storage space but no kitchen facilities besides a sink and an outlet for a mini fridge, and a shared bathroom. I’d have very happily given up the storage space for a usable kitchen space and a private bathroom.

My houseshares were usually awful and I’d end up confined to my room, avoiding the kitchen entirely and trying to creep to the bathroom unnoticed, so a shitty studio like this was the far better option.

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 24/06/2019 17:12

I find the concept of studio appartments in general to be a piss take more often than not, but that is taking both the piss and the biscuit.

iklboo · 24/06/2019 17:18

You could put a wash on, cook your tea, brush your teeth and open the door while sitting on the loo!

Claphands · 24/06/2019 17:20

Someone ‘single’ will rent that then move their partner or workmate in, guarantee it!

behindlings · 24/06/2019 17:21

Lol, have you read the London Rental Opportunity of the Week column in Vice, by Joel Golby? Has some absolute classics, much worse than this one:

Danglingmod · 24/06/2019 17:31

It does seem unbalanced in the amount of space given over to a washing machine and it's not very homely/nicely decorated.

BUT I don't think it's a lot of money in the scheme of things...

I live in a part of the country that people (including on mn) think is cheap to live and yet actually a bedsit in my city is around £500 a month - for one about the same overall size as this one but more nicely laid out, like a hotel room with double bed/desk/overhead storage but a smaller kitchen section. That's because there's a growing student population so the city is quite expensive. A two bed flat is about £800 +. (And people are always suggesting my city as somewhere cheap to move to!)

behindlings · 24/06/2019 17:32

In fact this doesn't even appear to be the worst thing on offer in Stoke Newington this month...

Bluerussian · 24/06/2019 18:27

kitchendisaster, most young, single people wouldn't worry about not having an oven. They tend to cook on top of the stove and the grill, and use the microwave, not cook roast dinners or casseroles.

Likethebattle · 24/06/2019 18:34

My mortgage is way less than that for a nice three bedroom end terrace townhouse.

hsegfiugseskufh · 24/06/2019 18:38

blue really? Everything of the beige variety tends to go in the oven...

Cloudyyy · 24/06/2019 18:42

Whaatttt!!!!! It’s awful!!!!! Looks like a prison cell with a microwave!

Bluntness100 · 24/06/2019 18:43

It's shit, but for twenty quid a night I'm not sure what else anyone would expect in that location.

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 24/06/2019 20:13

@Bluerussian when I was young & single I still wanted an oven! As did my equally young & single house mate.

Bluerussian · 24/06/2019 20:59

Oh well, whoever rents this studio will have to do without an oven. If it's a deal breaker, they can find a studio with an oven. I do think most wouldn't be that bothered though, especially as they'll be planning to get somewhere bigger in due course. DS Hathaway, you had a house mate so presumably you were in a house or flat share, not the same as a bedsit.

Sugarformyhoney · 24/06/2019 21:10

I’ve lived in similar at various places with ‘live in’ accom. It wasn’t that bad, actually. It’s not something I’d like to do long term though

Grimbles · 24/06/2019 21:22

Lots of businesses buy up small rooms/studios like this as an alternative to stumping up for hotels for staff who need overnight accommodation (e.g. if working late or visiting from another site)

SamBeckett · 24/06/2019 21:25

How the sodding hell do reach the microwave its damn nearly bolted to the ceiling !
As pp said you would be likely to tip the contents of the bowl / plate on your head when you take stuff out .

Why the bugger is there a lump of wood holding the worktop / hob ( if that is what the black oblong is ) up ?

With no draining board where do you drain your single cup plate pan knife fork and spoon .

The base of the bed looks like its been made out of a pallet.

It is hard to tell the size in the picture but I bet the grey draws in the shower room are only big enough to hold one pair of socks .

Not for me thanks Grin

HundredMilesAnHour · 24/06/2019 21:34

Reminds me of a friend's studio in Paris when we were students. Except her studio was smaller and didn't have a shower (just a toilet) or a washing machine. At the time I thought her studio was quite fancy because she had a fridge AND her own toilet AND a landline. Woohoo!

By contrast, I lived in a room on the 6th floor -all stairs - that came with just a sink and no furniture (or kitchen) at all, and the toilet was a shared one down the corridor. I did, however, have a tiny balcony that had a view of the top half of the Eiffel Tower.

That studio isn't great but there's always a demand for these places, even if it's just from foreign students.

Ohyesiam · 24/06/2019 21:37

It’s a tiny kitchen with a bed in it?

DaisyCarrington · 24/06/2019 21:42

I thought there were fire regulations for rented properties about having kitchens separated from bedrooms by an escape route!

Thisnamechanger · 24/06/2019 21:49

Whoever owns that isnt mad on regulations I expect!

That is very much like my son's student accommodation, which is a 'studio' in a private student hall, except that it has a desk and we pay a shitload more than that for it. It is in Cambridge.

DuMondeB · 25/06/2019 00:08

This is pretty much why I moved from Islington to south Manchester.

I’m an economic migrant, basically Grin
