How horribly depressing.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 24/06/2019 14:37

I don't understand why it even needs a washing machine. Surely you'd grab any chance to get out of there and go to a launderette?

Janleverton · 24/06/2019 14:38

I’d be amazed if that passes housing act requirements and/or has any permissions (I.e. planning). Looks more like a room in an HMO.

Dahlietta · 24/06/2019 14:39

It's not even the size of it really (well, it is...), but it's the fact that, as somebody said upthread, it's a utility room!

lululemona · 24/06/2019 14:39

Last year I was m's from Russell Square. Had a very large bedroom with ensuite for £200pw. Building even had concierge service (tiny kitchen though).

That "studio apartment" is definitely taking the piss.

Nettleskeins · 24/06/2019 14:41

think what is ridiculous is that all the space is used up with the kitchen and washing machine. It would be so much better to go back to the days of bedsits, with a landlady [somewhere], communal kitchen and bathroom even if you were strangers. Imagine sleeping next to that fridge humming too..Sad I think we've all got fixated on the idea of privacy and ensuites when it just ends up meaning we live in a little tiny hole..

Bluerussian · 24/06/2019 14:42

You don't get much for £650 a month in North London :-)! Hackney is very popular atm.

I've seen even smaller places let as studios. The one shown looks clean, kitchen area and shower room good. At least it's self contained, someone would be able to live privately and for most people, a one room gaff wouldn't be forever.

hsegfiugseskufh · 24/06/2019 14:46

Oh lord that's awful. And there is no oven?!

Its more than my mortgage on a 3 bed semi! soooo glad I don't live in London!

TheCatThatDanced · 24/06/2019 14:54

That's bad but mind you it is £650 pcm.

I had a friend in Notting Hill approx 10 years ago who rented a studio for £1,200 pcm which was a large room with a sort of shower in a cupboard (and toilet) living room/kitchen area on the ground floor area and then a pretty ladder up to a double bed in a 'room' with wardrobe etc but you couldn't stand up there as you'd hit your head (normal sized person!). She lived there approx 5 years.

TheCatThatDanced · 24/06/2019 14:58

actually I had a friend who lived in a studio which was - bedroom/sitting room combined along with a very small long kitchen area and I think shower room/toilet in a cupboard. Just off Brick Lane.

And another friend lived in a quite nice studio room in a shared flat but she shared bathroom/kitchen with 2 others - 1 was a couple at one point. Her room was double bedroom/living room. All went well until they got a Monday-Thursday/Friday tenant who was a professional contractor (project manager) man (in a relationship) who turned up in vest and shorts at her door and then when she was there with a friend (they were French) tried to climb into bed with them! scream

ChippingInLowCarbing · 24/06/2019 14:59

nettleskeins you’re only speaking for yourself. Others have said, and I agree, we’d rather live in that than have to share.
I could cope in there if I needed to.

I might still op complaining about my small kitchen in this house though, as I could put a bed in it and still have more room than that studio.

At least it looks pretty bright & clean, ive definitely seen worse

alligatorsmile · 24/06/2019 14:59

All your clothes would be damp, crumpled, and smell of toilet.

Missingstreetlife · 24/06/2019 14:59

Not even a particularly nice area, why a washing machine but no cooker. Madness

stucknoue · 24/06/2019 15:02

Crazy, you can get a nice 2-3 bed terrace for that here in a nice area, or even a 4 bed ex council. Our station is packed at 7.15 in the morning with people paying £10k a year for a train ticket because that's still cheaper than living in London

IHateUncleJamie · 24/06/2019 15:03

😱😱 Reminds me of this - but smaller and less navy blue:

“There’s something quite beautiful about that”

creakingknees · 24/06/2019 15:03

Hmm. Maybe if i shrank about 3 foot all round it could be do-able.
I have no idea where i would keep my clothes though? Hanging in the shower cubicle? Under the kitchen sink? In the fridge? The possibilities are endless.

Betty777 · 24/06/2019 15:04

It's not even in a nice (or central) area??

Could everyone stop London bashing though? this is not the norm, even for London......

Jemima232 · 24/06/2019 15:06

It looks much nicer than some of the studio apartments DH and I shared in London.

Yes, I said shared

It has new appliances and has been well kitted-out.

It's small but it isn't too bad. For London.

longearedbat · 24/06/2019 15:10

I can't understand the washing machine either. Surely you'd use a launderette for washing and drying?. I know it's ridiculously small, but it could be set up better. All you need is a small sink, kettle microwave and fridge, which could be put in a much smaller space, I mean, are you really going to want or need to do serious cooking? The bed could be a raised one with a seating area beneath.
You'd think there would be a minimum size allowable for living space, wouldn't you?
And I think the price is shocking for what it is.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 24/06/2019 15:10

Could everyone stop London bashing though? this is not the norm, even for London......

So, what could I reasonably expect for £650 per month in London?

legolimb · 24/06/2019 15:11

No floorplan ?

Grin
Celebelly · 24/06/2019 15:12

£650 a month. Living the dream!

adaline · 24/06/2019 15:13

I don't think people are London bashing at all @Betty777 - they just don't understand why you'd pay to live somewhere so awful out of choice! (Awful describing the property, not the city).

megletthesecond · 24/06/2019 15:15

Bed in a kitchen!

Cheaper than a hotel if you only want to spend mon-fri in London though. And it looks fairly clean.

Moreisnnogedag · 24/06/2019 15:17

But I dont understand why. Spare room has loads more options for that price (admittedly house shares) with bills included. Why oh why would you choose that?! I’m massively antisocial but I’d be the very embodiment of delightful company if that was the alternative.
