OMG, I just spotted that the sink is in the toilet cistern. Imagine having to clean your teeth in there. eeerrrgh.

Nothingsuitsmelikeasuit · 24/06/2019 15:20

That’s erm.... easy to clean.

Betty777 · 24/06/2019 15:21

So, what could I reasonably expect for £650 per month in London?

A double room in a not completely crap share house, in zone 2/3. with a washing machine in the kitchen......

or a bedsit of quadruple this size, in a vaguely crappy area (or indeed the area this one is in).

I earned pittance for many years, as did many of my friends, and certainly nobody ever ended up in a place like this. The closest I saw to this was a bedsit more than twice this big, but that was right off Hyde Park in Zone 1. And about the same price

This is just a crappy landlord hoping for just one poor newbie to London to take their word for it that this is all they can afford....

tomatostottie · 24/06/2019 15:25

The basin is in the toilet cistern. Bloody hell!

ginghamtablecloths · 24/06/2019 15:25

Yes, it is indeed laughable but if someone is willing to pay for it ...

SilverySurfer · 24/06/2019 15:28

That is absurd. There isn't even a chair! so I guess you are supposed to eat balancing the plate on your knees while sitting on the bed.

I remember knowing someone who was desperate to live in Knightsbridge and she could only afford a studio. If two friends visited her we would completely fill the room and it was like musical chairs if anyone needed to go to the loo. Madness.

ErrolTheDragon · 24/06/2019 15:28

The basin is in the toilet cistern. Bloody hell!

That's quite a neat idea for self-contained public loos, where all you're doing is hand washing (the water helps towards the next flush). But not nice for an actual bathroom.

PetrichorRain · 24/06/2019 15:31

It's extremely depressing that people have to live like that. I mean, I'm very well aware that this is a palace in comparison to some people's living circumstances, especially in developing world countries, but still. Makes me very sad.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 24/06/2019 15:35

Ugh, I didnt even notice the sink/toilet combo.

JemSynergy · 24/06/2019 15:42

A utility room with a bed. No thanks.

AquaPris · 24/06/2019 15:43

I mean it is a studio technically - awful though. I'd still rather live there than some of the shared houses I've seen for rent.

And I have just noticed how close their toothbrushes are to the loo. Grim.

Lozz22 · 24/06/2019 15:47

@LikeDolphinsCanSwin I wouldn't be able to reach the microwave to put food in let alone take it out!!

TheCatThatDanced · 24/06/2019 15:48

megletthesecond - lots of Mon-Thurs/Friday workers are happy with this if they're on a contract - high paying as it is cheaper than a hotel. A few I know eat/drink out so it's literally a crash pad.

Al203 · 24/06/2019 15:54

So long as there are scummy landlords and estate agents perpetuating this kind of society we will always have inequality.

bringincrazyback · 24/06/2019 15:57

Self contained? It's positively introverted.

Cryalot2 · 24/06/2019 15:58

The microwave is useless and a danger there..
It is a rogue landlord I think.
By the looks of it ,it's only suitable for thin people .

Kitsandkids · 24/06/2019 16:03

I rent a 5 bedroomed, 3 storey house for less than that rent!

tillytoodles1 · 24/06/2019 16:18

I'd love to sleep in a single bed next to the fridge!

Bluerussian · 24/06/2019 16:22

Kitsandkids, where is this wonderful house that is so cheap to rent :-) ?

I don't think the studio is too bad, would suit a single person who just wants to crash somewhere. There are plenty worse! At least the person doesn't have to queue for the bathroom and toilet and there are decent cooking facilities.

Regarding wash hand basin combined with cistern: OK for washing hands. For teeth, could always clean them over the kitchen sink, not ideal but I'd think that was OK for a person living alone. You can always have a bowl which you empty down the loo. Or keep your toothbrush covered up so it doesn't get germs from the loo!

Let's face it, no one is going to stay in a place like that forever but it's certainly a reasonable bolt hole. Far better than house share which frequently causes no end of angst and arguments.

hsegfiugseskufh · 24/06/2019 16:29

there are decent cooking facilities

there is no oven!

FoxFoxSierra · 24/06/2019 16:33

I'm getting claustrophobic looking at the pictures! I'm sure you get more space in a prison cell

TheInvisibleMrsCrane · 24/06/2019 16:50

That's awful - where do you store everything?

Hardly spacious, but you can get this for a similar price near me:

No, I'd say that's about right.
