To report parents for not registering the birth of a child

Should I stay out of it or report? I'm concerned the child could fly under the radar if there are any concerns if they are not 'in the system'. Who would I report to?

OP posts:
LilQueenie · 23/06/2019 14:24

Lets hope the child doesn't get taken into care. Is this person a friend of yours op seeing as she has confided in you?

LilQueenie · 23/06/2019 14:26

I take it you are in the uk? In the US this is actually not a crime.

Proteinshakesandtears · 23/06/2019 14:26

The child is unlikely to be taken into care if there is nothing else to it.

However, if it waits until a situation where the child needs emergency treatment or something, the situation could be worse. Better to register and keep SS out if it.

YourSarcasmIsDripping · 23/06/2019 14:40

It's highly unlikely if the child is otherwise well cared for and looked after.

However as time passes the risk increases, especially if it's brought to the attention of authorities because of a lack of care. For example an illness or accident that the parents waited until the last minute to seek help for. And if they never do? A life could be lost because "mind your own business ".

MyShinyWhiteTeeth · 23/06/2019 14:46

My friend's partner from work hadn't been properly registered by his parents. He had a home birth in the UK but his parents were originally from Asia. He'd been in school, university and work and had no problems. When he tried to get a passport to go on holiday his whole life fell apart.

He spent years and thousands of pounds trying to sort out the paperwork. Now I'm sure it would be much worse.

Confused01011 · 23/06/2019 14:50

I’m genuinely sickened and saddened in equal measures at some of these responses.
It seems some people regard minding their own business as a higher priority than sticking their neck out slightly (it’s only making one anonymous phone call) than a child’s welfare.
If ever I wasn’t in a position to care for my child, if anyone had concerns about them for whatever reason, I’d hope Theyd have the courage to make that phone call, and not just feign ignorance and ‘mind their own business’.

What a nightmare. Funnily enough it was the first passport application that caught my dad’s lack of registry too, back in 1968.

Round here you can’t get a kid into infant school without a birth certificate and proof of them being registered at a local doctors practice, so presumably we’ll see less and less instances in years to come.

The fuck up that is the Windrush situation is heartbreaking.

DuMondeB · 23/06/2019 14:54

My dad is British, btw. The family rumour is that my granddad was trying to evade the police and was living under an assumed name, hence not registering the kids. Everyone is dead now so no one to ask, but i’m tempted to sign up to one of those DNA genealogy sites to see if I can find that side of the family.

Smelborp · 23/06/2019 14:59

@userundone It's all about common law, we are currently ruled by maritime law, which isn't legal.

Can you explain this as I don’t understand it at all. Confused

Smiler88 · 23/06/2019 15:01

Please report the it, for the sake of the child.

Isatis · 23/06/2019 15:01

Smelborp, it's Freemen of the Land bollocks. There's quite an amusing link posted upthread about it - suesspiciousminds.com/2019/06/21/all-at-sea-2/

Isatis · 23/06/2019 15:03

Clicky link, I hope

These parents are white, aren't they? The experience of the Windrush generation shows us what happens when people can't prove they have a right to be in the country!

Lots of living in vans in off-grid, out of society sub cultures. It's actually pretty hard to get away with having a car without a license

QOFE · 23/06/2019 17:02

Has anyone posted this yet?

Man who refused to register child's birth loses High Court Case

From today's news!!

TheFormidableMrsC · 23/06/2019 17:03

@QOFE I literally just dropped back to the thread to post the same...!

user20 · 23/06/2019 17:33

@Anon6356237 how is it Even possible to not register a birth and not be caught after 5 years?

But definitely report it if you're sure it's true as that's illegal

codemonkey · 23/06/2019 17:46

The guy in the court case certainly sounds like he's bought into all this Freeman stuff. And his child is in care whilst this is resolved. How is that in the child's interest? Really sad.

Problem is of course.. cases like this make societal outliers even more entrenched in their views. It's part of the conspiracy.

SerendipityJane · 23/06/2019 17:50

No need for any politeness. He's a moron. An idiot. He's stupid. I wouldn't trust him to open a door without hurting someone. I wouldn't trust him with scissors. Usually it's not an issue to leave such people playing in a sandpit, or making whicker baskets or something. However in this case his stupidity is actively a risk to a child and must as even I shy clear of state interference, it seems a Good Thing has been done.

I doubt he's actually read much if anything about the freeman bollocks. Probably heard it all through friends of friends.

marvellousnightforamooncup · 23/06/2019 18:52

My vows may be skewed as the government has never done anything for me or my family.

Have you never been on a road? Never benefitted from Police making our country safer? Never benefitted from other people getting healthcare and vaccination so you don't catch nasty bugs? Never used NHS even when you or your mother gave birth? Seen streets swept clean? Clean water rules, flood prevention... I could go on.

SerendipityJane · 23/06/2019 19:04

Is it "whicker" or "wicker" Hmm ?

nickymanchester · 23/06/2019 19:05

@QOFE

Yes it has already been posted on this thread.

A couple of days ago the legal blogger Andrew Pack, who is a care lawyer at Brighton City Council and their in-house advocate, blogged about the case here:-

suesspiciousminds.com/2019/06/21/all-at-sea-2/

Actually, he has a very interesting blog and I would really recommend it for anyone who has an interest in child law.

You can also read the whole judgment here:-

nevernotstruggling · 23/06/2019 19:15

Getting a copy of the bc is a default at commencement of proceedings in public law for children. The dad in the link didn't have a chance - thank fully

nevernotstruggling · 23/06/2019 19:16

Dying to know the other details of that case and the grounds for care proceedings. They are having a community assessment - that's what a 38 6 is
