To ask what it’s like to have a famous DH?

I’m just being nosy really, I bet there’s a few posters on here with partners who have achieved some level of fame. And no I don’t expect anyone to reveal identifying information!

What is it like though, knowing that random people admire your DH? Does it make them cocky, or make you feel uncomfortable when other women take an interest in them? I think I’d find it quite exposing and difficult tbh. I have a friend who was in a similar situation with a musician for three years and I know she found it hard.

My dad’s a bit famous, more locally.
He had a few hit records over the years.
it’s v strange to me that people think he is something special, cos he’s just normal. Great Dad, fab Grandad. Been married 50 years. My mum has always just taken it in her stride.
It makes me smile when there’s 60/70 year old women asking for his autograph. Some guy doing the roof was a fan! And I was recently invited to a dinner party, new neighbours, and they just wanted to know about my Dad!
He’s very friendly, chats to absolutely everyone.
It’s changed my perspective on famous people, they’re just regular people, earning a living.

tomboytown · 23/06/2019 18:38

Oh, and people assume you’re wealthy

rollingpine · 23/06/2019 18:47

It must be awful to have a famous family member and see them being torn apart by the media, spied on, gossiped about etc. That would upset me terribly

Not immediate family, but a close friend, and yes it has been pretty grim sometimes.

AskMeHow · 23/06/2019 18:51

Ooh @EllenRachel you're not married to Leo Houlding are you? I had such a crush on him when I was younger! Blush

bigbeans · 23/06/2019 18:52

I have a famous DH.
He's a sportsman so he is super fit (🙄) so quite naturally he has women interested in him quite often. He shows me the message requests he gets on fbook/Instagram/Twitter and sometimes it's just CRAZY what women will offer to a complete stranger. He's on tv shows quite a lot and is so personable with a gorgeous (imo) smile so he's pretty popular!
I often find myself reduced to "Dave's wife" (tho his name isn't Dave) but I don't mind fading into the background.
Stopping for autographs when we are out can get frustrating especially when some fans try to push our DC out of the way to get closer and get a good selfie 🙄

But I'm aware this is what puts the food on the table

chatnicknameyousuggested · 23/06/2019 19:09

I went round to a neighbours for a barbecue last night (not a date). He is a very famous politician in Eastern Europe. He is obsessed with the price of Smints.
BEAT THAT MNETTERS!!!!

@HiddenBehindTheScenes

Obviously I'm not going to "out" him but it sounds as if you might know us. He's been doing more TV work than stage work recently, so we haven't needed so many stage door diversions as we once did.

Did you actually meet the crazy lady or just hear about her and help get rid of her in some other way?

justasking111 · 23/06/2019 19:23

Worked with a girl once, every day, flowers, gifts would arrive, from her boyfriend. He was someone you all would know as a comic actor from a long running comedy series. She decided he was a bit old for her so it fizzled out, she said he wanted to marry her. He then went on to be an international sensation on the stage in musicals, who knew he could sing. I wonder if the ex who I lost touch with wonders if maybe she should have married him. Apart from the age difference they were happy. But as a young girl I suppose she naturally wanted someone more her own age.

peachgreen · 23/06/2019 19:31

@nicesunnyday Yours intrigues me the most as I'm a big theatregoer. Stage dooring is so odd. I have a close friend who is a very well respected theatre actor (plus some bits on screen, but he's not really famous outside of theatre) and I've met quite a few people through him in social situations, and am pretty horrified by some of their stage door anecdotes. Are you in the industry yourself? I've often thought it would be difficult to date a theatre actor as their hours are so unsociable. My friend's wife is so often left 'holding the baby' despite my friend being a very keen and hands-on dad.

WonderTweek · 23/06/2019 19:46

@myotherface Does her name begin with a T by any chance? She sounds like someone I know (not personally but a friend of a friend). Halo

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 23/06/2019 19:49

Michael Crawford, justasking111?

Pannalash · 23/06/2019 19:52

It was the ‘Scottish’ bit that made the penny drop (then I clocked your username) - she claimed to be a whiskey heiress, is that her?

I never met her, or even saw her, but the backstage staff all knew about her. The ‘diversion’ tactic was a bit surreal, but quite exciting (I’ll not say what we did, don’t want to give away the secret Grin), but I can imagine it gets tiresome on a regular basis.

If I am on the right track, I only met your OH briefly, but he was very polite and professional. It must be hard staying ‘normal’ when you’ve got someone going around telling people she’s the mother of your children!

bobstersmum · 23/06/2019 20:04

@bigbeans Freddie Flintoff?

MeSoTooSo · 23/06/2019 20:04

I don't know why but I love this thread.

costacoffeecup · 23/06/2019 20:25

@JersJewel there was a thread about her last year on here but it was deleted, a lot of people genuinely believed she was married to him but it didn't add up on further investigation on google. I think it was deleted as it had her picture and name etc so not surprising really. It must be pretty disconcerting for you.

bigbeans · 23/06/2019 20:28

@bobstersmum noooo Grin

Lifecraft · 23/06/2019 20:45

Great grandfather was a premier league footballer - extremely famous in his day.

The premier League didn't exist before 1992.

@GidgetGirl I’ve posted before about how a scurrilous article two days after the death of an ex really affected me. They admitted press intrusion. I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy. I really hope that if your partner passes that it’s all kind and positive.
@babbi I know what you mean. You can be having a nice time not thinking about it and they just pop up unexpectedly and you can’t anticipate or avoid it

silvercuckoo · 23/06/2019 21:57

I had a one night stand almost 10 years ago with someone apparently very famous. We met at a very niche (but not elitist at all) event, I was young and reasonably attractive (and probably living under a rock!). We went to a cafe / bar after the event, and it just went naturally from there.
Random people approached him several times during the evening for a photo / autograph, but he never introduced himself to me - probably assumed that I recognised him, and it was too awkward to ask later.
He texted me the next day asking whether we can meet for a coffee, but I was so weirded out that I just did not reply.
I still don't know who he was GrinGrinGrin

DaphneBucket · 23/06/2019 22:52

I would like people to nc and then just say!

Calvin Harris' Sister popped up on one of these once. If she was being honest.

zizza · 23/06/2019 23:04

I can't stop laughing at silvercukoo!! Grin

Theworldcouldbemymollusc · 23/06/2019 23:06

I had a raunchy dream once about Rowan Atkinson in blackadder. Does that count?

chatnicknameyousuggested · 23/06/2019 23:19

Nobody seems to care about tempting me to out the Smint-loving Eastern European Arthur Scargill.
I just don't understand MN.
