To ask what it’s like to have a famous DH?

I’m just being nosy really, I bet there’s a few posters on here with partners who have achieved some level of fame. And no I don’t expect anyone to reveal identifying information!

What is it like though, knowing that random people admire your DH? Does it make them cocky, or make you feel uncomfortable when other women take an interest in them? I think I’d find it quite exposing and difficult tbh. I have a friend who was in a similar situation with a musician for three years and I know she found it hard.

Giget Gotta be Romesh Ranganathan!!!

BananasAreTheSourceOfEvil · 22/06/2019 20:09

@GidgetGirl Jon Richardson?

daisyboocantoo · 22/06/2019 20:11

@Maddiemademe that's hilarious! Do you shout at them like Phoebe from friends? Obviously you won't, as a professional but the thought of that tickles me

cleanasawhistle · 22/06/2019 20:14

My son is well known in our area and does get asked for his autograph from time to time .

lightlypoached · 22/06/2019 20:17

We had a short moment of 'fame' on telly and DH apparently had a bit of a gay following (according to gay mates). We (he!!) got accosted in a restaurant Soho and they were all over him Grin. Getting stopped in the street was weird, but people were lovely. It's all over now and you probably wouldn't know us if you tripped over us. Grin.

Juniorwarriors · 22/06/2019 20:17

GidgetGirl, are you married to Bill Bailey? I know you can't answer that.

RedLemon · 22/06/2019 20:18

Meline’s couldn’t be Cillian Murphy IMHO-i saw him in a play once and he was breathtakingly beautiful. Much more so than on screen I thought.

HiddenBehindTheScenes · 22/06/2019 20:18

JersJewel

NC-ed for this thread as I like to keep my life details completely separate to my MN persona, but I think I might have worked with your DH (and had to assist in throwing delusional lady off the scent on one memorable occasion).

I’m not remotely famous or glamorous myself, BTW, but i do work in a ‘backstage’ capacity so I have an element of contact with the ‘glitzy’ side of things.

Apologies if I’m barking up the wrong tree, it’s just that the details kind of match up, and then your username made me wonder.

imgoingtogetyoulittlefishes · 22/06/2019 20:18

I have mentioned this before but a close relative of mine is sort of famous, as in you probably wouldn't of heard of his name, but he played a really shitty character in a TV show (and played it well) that most people would of heard of.

Thankfully, for the role he had to change a bit about himself, so he is rarely recognised, I think the weirdest thing was coming on to a forum and finding a thread about how sexy he was. His wife is also fairly famous in her field as well.

TwinkleWings · 22/06/2019 20:21

@RonnieOnions is your DH Paddy Considine??

MorganKitten · 22/06/2019 20:24

I dated a well known director when I lived in LA, a ‘rockstar’ and snogged a not famous but huge now actor.

myotherface · 22/06/2019 20:25

I'm not British but in my home country my uncle was a really famous actor/singer (only ever famous in my country but a big star there). When I was a child I used to love being seen with him and felt so super important when people came to ask for his autograph 😂

Also almost twenty years ago I became friendly with the president of my country (I know this totally sounds made up) It's a much smaller country and so politicians and celebrities mix with ordinary people very differently from the UK. We were going to the same exercise class. I chatted to her in class because I felt sorry for her. Everyone else was so starstruck that they kept away and she always stood alone. We ended up becoming friendly and Ive been to her house and for a meal with her quite a few times. There was obviously always staring and whispers and someone brave would make comments in passing. For me the most awkward thing was always worrying she'd think I only wanted to be friends because of what she did. I'm pretty sure she knew it wasn't like that though. She used to call herself my second mum. I also didn't tell many of my friends about this because I was sure they wouldn't have believed me. She attended my wedding though and I wish now that instead of pictures of her at my wedding I would have pictures of people's faces when she turned up. Priceless.

katseyes7 · 22/06/2019 20:36

My OH works in the music industry (not in a band) and is very well known in his field, but not otherwise.
He produced one of the most iconic of the Britpop albums back in the day, and is still associated with that band. l doubt many people would recognise him if he was stood in front of them, though, which suits me fine.
Someone on twitter once put two and two together from my twitter name, and something l'd said about him, and sussed who he was, albeit privately. l had to fess up and ask him to keep it to himself.

ShowMeTheKittens · 22/06/2019 20:49

Stealth boast/lies bring it on.

ShowMeTheKittens · 22/06/2019 20:50

PS I was once chatted up by Gabriel Byrne. Does this count?
I didn't know who he was and went home. If I had known, I would probably still have gone home.

livinglavidavillanelle · 22/06/2019 20:51

A friend of mine dated an A Lister, who is world famous. Going out with her/them was absolutely awful. She would literally be shoved, sometimes elbowed, out of the way, by desperate women trying to get to him, even when she was heavily pregnant ffs.

Fucktuates · 22/06/2019 20:58

@JersJewel Jeremy Northam?

BananaCatto · 22/06/2019 21:03

Without being too outing, I’ve got a fairly big YouTube following (20-30k subscribers) and get recognised. It’s weird, I always have a feeling the days that it happens and then it does. I don’t feel famous or consider myself famous at all so it’s really odd and I never know what to say.

I also am friends with people who regularly appear on tv or present shows. I’ve been on BBC tv a few times etc. I feel like we’re all normal people though.

saywhatwhatnow · 22/06/2019 21:07

@Hopeygoflightly I think I might know who you dated. A friend had a similar relationship in the 90s and the woman is still not out now, she only dates men publicly.

Yubaba · 22/06/2019 21:17

A friend of mine is married to a tv presenter, she is semi famous herself but took a step back to have a family.
They live a very unassuming life in suburbia and are totally normal, they don’t really do red carpets and glitz.

Yubaba · 22/06/2019 21:20

A different friend dated a musician, they’d been together since college but as soon as he got famous he dumped her.
Total arsehole, I can’t bare his music now, he’s very up himself.

Hopeygoflightly · 22/06/2019 21:25

saywhatwhatnow - it’s amazing how many LGBT actors & musicians are still in the closet, it’s so common to have a ‘beard’ for public events. I was young and idealistic and knew there was no way I was going to live my life like that forever- being the ‘PA’nor the ‘gal pal’ or the ‘best friend’ ...and watching MY girlfriend pose with someone’s else’s arms around her.

AnthonyCrowley · 22/06/2019 21:28

@gidgetgirl Michael Palin?

RomanyQueen · 22/06/2019 21:28

bottleofbeer

Not an author no, but you have me worried as just started writing something. It's not a book or story though.
I'm not a bit famous and my dh is pretty much down to earth.
What he does is very specialised, only people who are into that specialism know him, a bit like non mainstream opera really, but definitely not Grin

babbi · 22/06/2019 21:33

Re the previous poster saying about the media type obituary when her DH deceases ( assuming he goes at first of course ) ...
A similar thing ...
One of my relatives was a very famous UK actor ... think a show that we have all seen and re runs are shown fairly regularly...
He’s now deceased ... every so often I can switch channels and see him “ live “ ... a couple of times I’ve found it very upsetting...
I can’t explain why ... maybe other dear departed people you get out their photos etc if you are in the mindset to do so .. whereas with him .. his image and voice just appear without warning and I’m not prepared !?!
I don’t know 🤷‍♀️ if I’m explaining it very well ... but out with my control he just appears live ...I don’t like it at all
